your quite right, that does mean gold status, and we were told we'd ge the demo no sooner, however if you read the small print it says they will start working on the demo when it goes gold and we would get a press release telling us that it had gone gold. all in all i think it prob is gold but they forgot to tell us
-
Whats this thread about again? i got bored half way through the original post
-
Aussies? what they goin to do, beat them to death with cans of castlemain (sorry didn't mean to offend anyone, EMPTY cans)
-
i dont think that could be reliably modelled other than the old AI skill scale thing they had in OFP. in vietnam i dont think the problem was undertrained troops, i think it had more to do with those little guys having more numbers and better hiding places than the americans, how you could model that ingame i dont know because it doesn't take long to become very familiar with an area in OFP thus negating the locals knowledge, but it would be funky if they could
-
nice side step there, i hope the AI is as good at dodging bullets as that
-
firing whilst running? seriously? that just doesn't happen. would you not think the smart thing to do would be to drop so your a smaller target then shoot accurately instead running and gunning like a big bullseye, suppose your teamates will be happy because you'll be drawing fire from them
-
if the system for indirect fire is there within the game as a whole then i am very happy, i know modmakers and scripters did there best but i think everyone will agree it was a bit fiddly using scripts unless you were very clued up. i always though OFP would have been better if the ability to use mortars, self proppelled guns and fixed artillery was there to start with, would have opened up numerous possibilitys, atleast now we know we've got that in arma, i hope so anyway
-
designating the co-ord to a group on the other side of the map would be very good, however realistic randomness in the way the shells fall would be needed although i'm sure BIS have looked in to that
-
by artillery do they mean actual units firing from across the map or just a magical shell that falls from the sky.
-
i thought artillery would be something they definately would have put in this time around because it was something that almost every modmaker and scripter tried to make, would be a real shame if it was ignored in arma, although i suppose if you think about the game itself and the situation maybe US forces didn't have arti on the island but still, for mission editior it would be advantageous

I wonder how many (Ex)British soldiers will disagree with you a few of those points... well we got all our CS95 kit from tshirt right up to the gortex smock, all the thermals, the plce, nbc, combat gloves, gaiters, trousers, pistol belt, and all the rest and we didn't get dessert kit because we didn't need it, you only get issued that if your going to get deployed there, i never got deployed there so i never got it. if they want to disagree then they can but that was what we got
-
i wasn't talking about webbing, i was meaning difference in clothing, i dont know what kit you use in the states but in the uk we're issued with enough kit to deal with all types of weather, apart from extremes like arctic and dessert and such like which your issued with just before deployment. wouldn't make sense if you were to wear the same kit that you'd wear in forrested areas as you would wear in dessert areas, likewise, if modmakers were to make something similar to winter kolgujev then the ability to let soldiers wear full cold weather kit and not just what the normally wear but all white, would be a lot more interesting. and i think i saw in one off the screenshots that there were mountanous regions of sarani, although it just looked like snow caps but you get the general idea hopefully
-
i think letting the soldiers change their kit in relation to climate and conditions would be more interesting than changing the way you load your kit on your PLCE or whatever, in reality everyone carries their kit relatively the same because we're all taught the same, however i think it would be realistic if different kit could be worn if for instance there was heavy rain(smock), or hot summer(combat shirt, short sleeve order) or if there is snow then winter combat dress with proper helmet covers etc

do you really want to know  on second thoughts, no

24 thousand rounds, where did you stick the replacement barrels you would need after shooting out the old ones

I wouldnt hold your breath, there wont be an online download untill the tortoise with arthritis = 505 Games has released there copy of the game. You will be lucky to see a demo of the game this side of christmas, let alone the full online download. did i miss a post or something ? - what info is this based on ? if thats true, its a major, major blow. they said the SP demo would likely be after the release of the full game, whether that means czech release or UK or similar i dont know. nothing is going to happen not even MP demo untill the game goes gold so i'm hoping that means we'll get the SP demo shortly after german/czech release and not UK but who knows, i wouldn't be suprised if we didn't get a demo b4 xmas but i hope we do obviously

i agree the flyin in ofp was a bit crappy, but you still need to be able to fly in a fun way. in and out quickly without everyone hating you cos you crashed with 10 guys onboard killing everyone! i read somewhere that wind will affect you especially while hovering, now that would be good
-
sorry but no game in the universe would model things like that, retreating blade stall? if you were going to do that you might aswell include the effects off yaw angle on the swept wing of a harrier which we know will cause it to drop a wing. all your going to do is annoy people because they want to drop troops somewhere and they cant because they dont have time to actually get their private pilots licence so they can fly in Arma.seriously though, there comes a point when you can go to far with this sort off thing
-
aslong as the harrier can do everything a harrier should do and there is good ejection anims then i'll be happy
-
Thats what the Green Berets do mate.. they are trained to raise guerrilla armies and uprisings on the soil of the enemy and operate, for weeks or month behind enemy lines. Whereas the Dboys or SEALs have "missions" as we know them.. storm buildings, free hostages etc. This isnt behind enemy lines, and the US dont want a guerrilla army. They want to show the world that the US isnt all that bad and give a training to the south sarahani's (which is friendly territory), which should also enhance the stability on the island. However, just when the US forces are done and for the most part withdrawn from the island, the NS army attacks. (So i would expect these guys to train them ) of course they would send special forces to do that job, thats what happens in real life and i would think thats what would happen on s. sarani, regular troops are not trained how to teach multiple skills to untrained soldiers, special forces such as royal marines, paras and such like are trained on just about everything, and therefore are in a better position to teach.

Thre are a hell off a lot off women in the forces, the british forces anyway. I think they have a place in reality but in Arma i think it's a bit pointless, i dont think the ability to shoot women will make the game more immersive, a soldier in arma will serve a pourpose as a target for you to shoot not a political statement of sexual equality

Has anybody heard a date, the other releases have actual dates, we just got Q1 2007, that could be any time before april.
-
if you can figure out the language and order it online then just order it with visa, your credit card company will make the payment and the exchange rate you got at the time of purchase will come up on your next statement

well... neither do i... it was an attempt at making a real worl example, but kind of failed miserably. now there's a genius rebuttle if i've ever seen one! of course Quite an insane comparison, but i like the imagry... I dont quite see how you think BIS have treated us like mushrooms/mould/dirt/shit (take your pic) - I'd tend to see that the community has hyped up release dates and progress more, and that we're to blame for creating false expectations of something we have no knowledge of... BIS only released a temporary Q4 release date, and in germany and CZ they're still on target... missing that by Q1 isn't something to get so worked up about. its about average as the gaming industry goes if you consider all the other releases int he last 4 years and how many of them hit their projected release date on the nail... christ, I'd hate to know you when someone crashes into your car etc and equally as many who dont care/glad that bis have more time etc... and i'll repeat that i dont see evidence of any release dates being pushed back and back... there was a projected release date of Q4 2006 - they say Q4 so that they have a 3 month window to hit - it should make you realise that it means they're not sure when they'll be done and that its a general/to be taken with a pinch of salt date, thats now been revised to Q1 2007... thats one change... not something to cry bloody murder about. Its like asking to meet someone at 8pm, and they turn up at 8:10pm... would you rip their heads off just as quickly? then sit back, relax, and welcome to the world of BIS PR Â you're a drop in the ocean... insignificant in terms of the millions that was made. [edit] sorry placebo, you posted as I was typing but thanks a million for the statement ! UKF, please read posts in their entirety, and dont post parts of posts in order to misrepresent it, for example calling my money a drop in the ocean in comparison to what was made overall by the title, even though what i was stating is that sales and money makes games a success. sorry placebo but i was posting my opinion on the topic

if i pay for a can of coke then yes i do expect coca cola to respect my custom, quite what that has to do with this i dont know. and yes you have talked like you know publishers personally and i quoted it in my last post. you can go on and on all you want about how i'm wrong and how BIS are gods and we should worship them because they're making a good game but your wrong, we'll all buy this game whenever it comes out (may be with our pensions) but that doesn't excuse treating the paying public like mushrooms. as for speaking for ppl on here, if you look back you'll see quite a few posts from ppl that are not pleased with release dates being given then just pushed back and back. and i would rather have one press release telling the truth that 100 press releases full of bollox. and for the record my money did make OFP a success, just like everyone elses money that made them countless millions.
