Mod-Tools. Will this usher in everything we yearn?
urbanwarrior replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
yeah the people in the know should be letting the community know whats happening with the tools, expected release date would be nice, i dont really do anything in the way of modmaking, did a bit in ofp but i can still see why people would be getting a little miffed now having to wait....again -
that is a truly beautiful video, the physics is nye on unbelievable, especially the nuke but the tank running through the shed aswell is something to behold, however there is one big reason i hope bis does not use such an engine to power something like game2 and that is the fact that a game that looks that brilliant but with arma's huge islands and massive play areas and the shear number of players in mp would mean the computer i would need to play it would cost more than my car, and i cant drive a PC to work.

Alright i need some stuff
urbanwarrior replied to mrbean1112's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
try using a thread title that will enable people to find this in the future, just incase someone else is ever in the same position as you and needs the info -
was playing the ambush MP mission online with a friend and the mi17 appeared, we had agreed to leave it and concentrate on the bmp's but half our squad was dead so we decided to just live our final moments trying to kill the mi17, i emptied an entire belt through the m240 in to the mi17 and it still carried on, in fact my friend was wacking away with his m16 aswell so i dont know how many hits it took but it was a lot and they were all aimed in the direction of the cockpit. we ended up taking it down with a very lucky shot from an at4. the littlebird is very susceptible to small arms however.

I just want to check with a few people to see if this is just happening with me, when i shoot inside the fortress (the big one) the muzzle flash opens a kind off portal to the outside of the fortress, the shape of the muzzle flash is there but instead of a gold flash there is a momentary picture of the outside. i'm sorry if someone has maybe picked up on this before but if some of you could have a quick look in the editor, try it and let me know. it may just be some screwup on my side.

thanks mate, i just noticed the other day when i tried to rout a few guys out of the fort with the usual grenade and emptying a mag on the way in, thought it was a bit of lag or something untill i tried it again this afternoon.

i suppose it would be pretty easy to implemement fast roping in arma seeing that it was done for ofp but could it be done with actual floaty round ropes and then when the guy is on the rope he would have a mass, this would mean you'd have to keep the helo steady as they went down or they would be swinging all over the place. dont know if its possible or not but it would look mighty fine. what does the vbs rappelling look like is it like above?

love it!

No, the two weapons have different requirements to fire. The M16 / m4 round is too weak for an automatic rifle, in my opinion, it's too weak for an assault rifle too. well thats my point, if the 5.56 wasn't up to the job then why didn't they just keep the 7.62 and conversely if the 5.56 is up to the job then why charge up the catridge for use with the saw, just seems like dumb logic to replace a good servicable support weapon calibre (7.62) with a cartridge that is a charged up or a compressed load version of a regulaar 5.56. Have you got anymore info on those special m249 rounds, if thats how it is in reality then maybe it should be included in a mod or addon (it may already be there in the game but i haven't noticed)
-
would it not have been smarter to just design the saw to use m16 ammuntion full stop. that way there would be no worries about compatabilites.

i think the whole point of .sara was to give us multiple enviroments on one huge island, if it wasn't then they would have given us 2 or 3 islands like ofp. the storyline of an island at war is shaky at best anyway, i think the developers knew the selling point of their game would be the editor and so giving us the huge expanse and variable playing area that is on sahrani is quite deliberate, although some people have made some good points on the unbalanced nature of the island in terms of resources and facilites ( airports, ports) however i think that can be addressed quickly as i mentioned before with the landing strip in the north
-
sahrani is a great island, gives the best of both worlds, the airport in the north is a little basic but it can easily be modified with tarmac and better buildings. the mountainous regions are fun aswell if not very practical but they look great with the view distance cranked up, allthough i cant do this without suffering framerate slumps. one thing i really do want is winter on the north island, snow on the ground and trees would be great. the shape of the island is a bit crap though, there's only really one area to cross from north to south and thats corazol, if the island was a bit more parallel then cool big bridges could be used or causways, just an idea though, i'm sure islands or improved sahrani's will come soon after the tools are released

Here you go. Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKhMOfaYwvE There's 40 mm grenade, .50 BMG, some SMAW also. Yeah. Cinder block are bad. Here's another clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0UdI1No82A excellent videos, thanks for the link's. the 30mm cannon was interesting, if it was like that in arma there would be no such thing as cover! i think the most bewildering point in that video was the results of the m16 versus the SAW, cant see how the saw performed better, i would have thought the m16 had the longer barrel and would have possibly had a slightly higher muzzle velocity and so would have performed better but apparently not, makes you think.

CS95's woop woop!!!
-
how thick was the wall? the demostrations i've seen shows us why we shouldn't use cinder block walls for cover, they rattled 3 or 4 in to a wall and there were big holes on the other side of it, couldn't tell you where the bullet went after that but it did atleast come out the other side
-
yes but then you would have the choice of desert or woodland wouldn't you
-
i would agree that 5.56's would go through palm trees, we tend not to have them were i'm from but i've shot through a birch tree before (was about as thick as a fat persons thigh) and it went right through, m14's or SLR's would definately do it, i think the question is more like what range they (5.56/7.62) could do it at.

works fine for me, been using it in virtually every MP mission VCB play. By laser guidance do you mean LGB's because i haven't tried it in mp yet but i've been trying to get the AI to pilot the harrier and drop the LGB on my target which i'm lighting up with the laser but i haven't had any luck, they just fly around untill i hear "2 is DOWN" and i've been trying since the first UK release, pain in the balls.
-
it wont have GPS because it doesn't work under water as RF dissipates very quickly in water, unless its ULF in which case the antenna is impractically long, you could use inertial navigation though, try and model it into the mod so you could know where you are in relation to where you started, that way you could atleast always find your way back, dont how you would add something like that but it would be quite good if you could
-
sorry if i offended anybody but i find a bit of a piss take that they dont offer help in anything, look at WW2, where was the irish army then, they were leaving their lights on so german bomber could navigate, and i dont ever remember them in "anti-terrorism" operations when they're little private army was bombing the shit out of people in the north, no border patrols to stop them running back to the south where they knew they'd be safe, but yeah this is off topic.
-
They are stationed in Liberia and seen action in UNIFIL. sorry i forgot to say, i mean real conflicts, not peacekeeping. have they been in iraq or aghanistan, did they have any involvment in kosovo or bosnia.
-
have to admit though, it's not like there "battle hardened" what conflicts have they fought in recently?
-
it happened for me with the demo but now i've got 1.05 it doesn't

I won't move either while the enemy looks "don't know what's going on" state. but once they seems noticed where I am, start to "flanking maneuver" and if I missed to shoot them, I immediately retreat from the position and try to ambush them. then they comes to exactly where I am carelessly - so all I need to do is just pick them one by one. at least I won't give them a chance. probably this is unrealistic "tactics" (well, not much like that...), but most easiest and effective way. and that's the point that gives me frustrating. Why the hell I could act like rambo in this "realistic combat sim"? and why the stupid tactics like that IS the most effective way against the AI? Is every real life combat a turkey shoot? have to disagree with you there, doing the rambo thing is not effective AT ALL in this game, the moment you forget yourself and try and gain a little bit more ground than you should, the enemy takes advantage and shoots the sh!t out off you, especially in the urban enviroments
