11b, I am just finishing 3rd year of college. You CAN directly enlist into SF now. thats what the 18-x is. They gurantee you your 11b, airborne, SFAS dates. If you make it its up to you. But ive lived near, in woods my whole life man trust me i can land nav. And ihave most of my college education. I realize im in for a tough ride but ive been preparing for this for 3 years now so im in good shape mentally and physically. I didn't know you could enlist directly until i got to MEPS and they asked me to because of my scores. Actually a Lt. Col asked me to. I originally just wanted to be airborne. They make you enlist for 5 year min though cause most of that time is training. But i wish i would have done it your way and went Guard first, or hell even gone to West Point, but i was pretty foolish back then and wanted to be in the Navy instead, (don't make fun of me, lol) Anyway so your in college now or active duty? I was thinking about finishing up college and going for 18-a also, but my degree is bio/chem and so i thought 18-d would give me some good work experience with what i want to do in life. Hey 11b, i have a question. I am enlisted 18-x, what operative are you? do you have a lot of time once you get through SFAS and q-course to do shit like play games? I am shooting for 18-delta, and so i will be in states a lot with my training (think its 57 weeks.) SO during that time will i be having a lot freee time? will i be in a living quarters? No one i talk to seems to know and seeing you are SF it would be helpful to know. thanks

Hotel, I did not think you were snapping at me at all. ANd i think you should say that you got a degree before you went in. I know with the army at least you get many more benefits based on your education level. I think that you should be proud of your accomplishments and you didn't come off as a bragart at all.

ha ha ha E6 hotel. Sounds like your typical case of "marine syndrome" (thats what i like to call it, its pretty much every marine has some sort of periodic mental disorder and goes nuts) And about the pay thing, if you are smart you will get a good education while in the service, if you are even smarter you'll go to college for a couple years before you even get in. Military is a great way to pay for your education, but you got to do more than get done the day and go have some beers. Take every advantage they give you and you'll have a worthwhile stay in the military.

This topic is far too long, and i didn't read 9 pages to see if this was discussed, but grey fox there is a direct enlistment option available for those who wish to be guranteed a "path" to becoming special forces in the army. Notice i say "path" because as 11 bravo mentioned earlier it is not a real picnic. My advice to you is to go to college for at LEAST two years and get some age and maturity (i know i sound like your dad). Then you can go in higher in rank, and you'll have some experience being away from home etc. SF is not all macho guns and glory. To even be considered you have to take a test called the DLAB, (language test you can not study for) and let me tell you it is not anywhere near the ASVAB. I scored 93 on the ASVAB and had line scores all above 120, but left the DLAB thinking i had failed it. So all i have to say to anyone thinking about SF, or maybe even the military in general, try going to college if that is at all possible first, then go into the service if you like.

YOu mean you play lots of video games in your spare time, or combat simulators such as we are talking about in this thread? I dont' have the time to play video games except maybe once a week if im lucky, and i certainly have never used one for combat simulations, lol. And by the way my MOS is 18 x-ray

yes in the army we don't play video games, only the marines do that.....might have something to do with their inability to practive live fire in real life without going on a killing spree........
