Lo All, first post on these haloed forums so don’t burn the new guy if he missed a post..
I think the AI solution will develop in time if anyone has seen the FNL Combat Video Fight for Nogova. It looks like these script monkeys may have something or at least prove that the AI can be improved further within the community with the odd little nudge from BIS.
However for all the game play, beautiful environments and fantastic add-ons by the community can someone please fix AI motion. Movement just does not seem to be fluid, soldiers pivot on one leg through 360 while the battlefield sees troops bobbing up and down for no reason. I know the animations are available it just seems that transitions are missing between the actions.
Anyway enough of the negative… Hey BIS programming dudes ever thought of adding a few variables to models and a little scripting to your collision detection.. Just thinking on the fluid game play thing.. Could your character automatically adjust their position to make use of the cover they collided with? For example a car, you would kneel over the bonnet or boot while the roof you would stand. A further nice touch would be that a character would collide with an object and while under fire assume a protective posture… aka holding helmet and praying etc.. This could also be applied to having a quick look, typically a reflex response by all soldiers. Although adding nothing to the game these ambient reflexes would add much to the games atmosphere.
