I have 27.30 and there are minor problems now. Crashing in demanding apps like 3dmark would be definaly driver or heat problem. To install the new drivers first unistall your current ones by the add/remove program. Unistall them then reboot. (Have the driver ready e.g unzipped if it comes in a zip file) and windows will pop-up a sign about new hardware. Select the find the location of driver manually. Browse where the driver, select it and install it. Reboot and enjoy <span id='postcolor'> Why are these 23.12 WHQL drivers so hard to find??? They are not posted on the offical site.. Are they the ones that will be certified from microsoft for direct x?? The drivers being downloaded are an exe. Not like I can unzip them.. I wish I could update the Intel 82443BX Pentium II Processor to AGP controller. I went to Intel's site but no DL for it..

What I would do first is look at the directx version you are running. I would also run your dxdiag and test the sound there. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\dxdiag.exe. Make sure you are able to hear sounds in direct x first. The last tab has more help. You can click on the sound and see if windows can help you fix the problem..

Well I installed 23.11 drivers and the updated Sound Blaster Drivers. I was able to play for a while before it locked up once only in the past 2 days.. I also played in low res with it 1024x768 and only 16bit. When I ran the 3DMark2001 I was getting in the 30's FPS with all the games in low res but in the higher ones I was getting between 8-14 FPS. My score was 1836. I even locked once during a high res test. I guess I will have to deal with it till I build my next system. Not sure where I can get those beta drivers for my GeForce2 but It might be worth a download and try.. Thanks to all your help. I can at least play it longer then I did in the past.

Not sure what you mean by CPU drivers.. I should DL the 3DMark2001 then?? If so I was planing on it.. Where do I find these drivers your saying?? Thanks..

Are only applications crashing, or is windows crashing as well? Certainly get rid of the old drivers, but they shouldn't be interfering, even if the files are lying around in the system folders. Wndows its self is stable. I have yet to lock on normal windows applications. I got rid of the old drivers by booting up in safe mode.. Make sure windows itself can run stable indefinately (or at least for a few days) so you are confident hardware and drivers are not the problem. It has always run stable since I reinstalled it. I would recommend you test your system stability doing all the usual things: o Disable any overclocking. None. Its a true PIII 600 and I have it set like that in the BIOS. ABIT does not recomend anything higher on this BH6 Motherboard. o Run scan disk with surface check. I can but its a new install should be fine. o Restore bios defaults. I had to when I added more memory. o Install the latest drivers for all devices. Motherboard, Video and Sound in particular. All are up to date. They stopped making Mother Board drivers in 2000 I think. o Is using Windows98, reinstall windows over the top of current (don't use repair option). Done.. Fresh install doing FDISK and Format C:. Then I installed WIN98. o ReInstall DirectX8.0 or 8.1, use DxDiag to check versions and running. I have and DirectX seem to be working fine. It works fine in other applications that don't crash. o Get rid of any 3rd party programs that supposedly boost system performance or provide fancy shortcuts or monitoring. The only thing I have running in back ground is Norton and my CD burner software. I have disabled the burner software but that did not help. o Use free programs like 3DMark2001 and Sandra in looping test modes to run your computer. It should run for days without crashing. Not sure about this one. I will look into it. This is just frustrating. I am happy for all your suggestions and I do try them but I have now spent $140.00 on ugrades for my PC and it has helped a little but not to the point of not crashing..

I have done everything and yet there is certain times it freezes or throws me back to windows. I noticed this happens on the single game Ambush. I have yet to finish this one without locking or throwing my back to desktop. It also has a hard time with missions using NV. Here is what I have done. I followed all the suggestions and Now I upgreaded my memory to 384MB. I also am using version 1.30. I seem to crash more on 1.30 then 1.20. I have sent in all the information to the support group for Codemasters and the support listed here. I got one respone asking for more info but yet to have an solution. I am at my wits end. I understand this is a very demanding game on the system but I think there is still a good amount of bugs in it. Thanks to all your help. It has improved my game play with it but I think it has nothing to do with my PC now..

I just bought my PNY Verto GeForce2 MX400 64MB card at Circuit City for just $80.00 and it is great. I think Compusa also has it for that price but you have to send in rebates... It helped my PC which used an Intel card..

Thanks I removed the old video card drivers. Before I did that earlier today I installed version 1.3.. Sure enough when I got to a part of the game that had more graghpics it threw me back to windows. I could hear all the crunching from the either the card or the CPU. I will try it again and see if removing the old drivrs helps or not.. If not I will send an email to the help group.. Maybe they can think of something, or I'll go back to 1.2

Well after the new drivers for the GeForce2 card I was able to play it for 2 and a half hours straight using campagin mode. I would still like to get rid of the old video card drivers so they don't casue a problem. I am also only running version 1.2 so I will DL the upgrade to 1.3 and see but looks like the major part of my poblem was the fact my Intel740 couldn't handle the load. So for all you people crashing you might want to look at your video card. If its a low on memory like a 8mb or 12mb or 16mb card you might want to get a 32mb or 64mb card. They are cheap now. I picked up my GeForce2 card with 64mb for only $80.00. I figure it will give me another year on my PC before I need to replace it. Thanks for everybody's help. If I have any further problems or crashes I will send an email to teh support group..

All the old gfx drivers are sitting in the system directory now. I am not sure how to uninstall them being I removed both cards from my system and there not in the control panel. Remember these are 4 year old cards. What was the key to boot in safe mode?? I have not done that in a long time. I thought it was F8 or F10 but it didn't work.. I have now DL the new drivers for the Geforce from PNY and will install them now.. Yes I have the latest drivers for my Abit. They stopped making them in 99. Not sure about the AGP driver, again the mobo is 4 years old and I do not think there was a seperate BIOS for the AGP slot. Thanks..

I bought a PNY Verto GeForce2 MX400 64MB card and installed it. I still have the crashes and freezes but not nearly as often. I can at least play it for a short time before it does one or the other. Any other sugestions??? Thanks

I have been trying to fix this problem for the past 2 days with no luck. Here is my info. I downloaded and saved my video cards updated drivers to a burned CD. I then flushed my system by formating my C drive and reinstalled win98. Here is what I have PIII 600 100MHZ Intel740 8MB AGP card Monster II 12MB PCI card Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 5.1 Direct X 8.1 192MB Memory I tried to fix it with the swap file but no luck. I am able to play lower end gams like Diablo 2 and Delta Force Land Warrior but when I play higher end games like this and even Blade Of Darkness the game will either crash to windows with no explaination, Get a general fault in operationflashpoint.exe or the game totally freezes my computer. I then have to reset it and start over. I am thinking about getting a cheap newer card in a GForce 2 64MB AGP card to see if that helps but its getting frustrating. Please let me know if there is anything you want from me to post. I am at my wits end. Note: My PC is 4 years old and its a BH6 Motherboard from ABIT.. Thanks
