Using satchel's dynamic range soundpack....?
troop replied to GFX707's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hi again, GFX707 >Back to the actual addon....troop, you say that you are having these hissing sounds....do you have EAX turned on or off, the same with HW acceleration....? If so try turning these off or on and get back to me if doing this improves the sound at all, if you are still willing to< --- Hope to be of service with the report. Usually EAX and HW-accel ON. Upon your request I've tried all combinations thereof but if I turn either or both to OFF, backround hiss gets even worse! (just for the record: no hiss or crackle or pops or else in any other game/sounds, so it's neither the s-driver, nor hardware related.) I am still only refering to the M16/21 sounds you did. (oversear mission) Certainly, I'm no sfx-pro but (here) there is a lot of 'underlaying hiss/noise' (white noise?) to those gunshots. I get similar results on any soundfile (cooledit pro/else) if I run an (actually) 'noise reduction filter' but set way too strong. The result is worse than the anticipated, 'cleared-up' sound! What I want to say is, Satchels sounds, despite _only_ 22050 mono are of remarkable quality (i.e. much cleaner without any hiss) May I suggest, (if you didn't already listened to those) you download the sound/weapons mod 'RED's WEAPONS' and listen to those, Satchels and yours in comparison? --- http://www.ofpeditingcenter.com/addon_depot/view_type.asp?type=2 'Red's Weapons | Version: 1.1 | ReleaseDate: 12/18/2001 | more info...by Reddeth' --- For what my old ears are worth, there is an very noticable, BIG difference between all three. Red's got some mighty UMPF...and are 'clean' as well... an battle using Red's is (check included, _good_ demo missions! ) is god**** FUN;.. yet, I highly prefer Satchel's... is it me? You dont get any hiss at all? Or is your replay toned much more towards bass? treble down? That would explain.. -

just to add 0.2c to the formerly written. I've tested your sound addon with a mission from Waskovsky's War; 'Overseer' (Snipers lead way for tanks) where M21 and M16 are avaiable. Fired both weapons and while duration of each shot, I had stark backround hiss. Even more noticable during 'rollout' of shot. (instead of slight 'echo'-stark backround hiss) When immediately switching (back) to Satchel's/PV's.. no such hiss..but 'my' fav. sharp 'crack..crack' from the M16 again. M21 shot 'rolls' slighly more out (echoing) but again, no hiss. That rules out my speakers (good headphones, HD-490 anyway) btw;..both of us seem to have completely different sound systems;... 'like striking a match' ? No way! Rich and blowing sound from my SB Audigy, with everything enabled. Even though Satchel mentioned, his sounds are (performing?) best with EAX off, I cant second this with my setup. With EAX and or HW-accel OFF, even his sounds perform pissy (here! ) So, each setup greatly differs;..for an comparison with your setup, could you please try to play once with some headphones? Of course, it will be different... -

GFX707, thanks for your efforts in trying to bring some more variation into OFP's weapon sounds. hissy...hmmm. I had way more backround-hiss with some of your sound files (M21;M16..) Me, I will stay with Satchel's and PV's final though..for now. -

If you don't want to see your p/o-box flooded, you should set this to yellow.. 'If you are having problems with any of these addons please visit the forum rather than emailing me.' errm..testing right after work.. -
New campaign; as of added today: Winter Original Flashpoint 1985 Campaign (39 missions; by Azimut 0) [48.6 MB] I'm going to download it now http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=campaigns

>May I suggest ZIPping the PBO? Sometimes raw PBOs get corrupted on downloads for some odd reason.< oh yeah; exactly that happened the first time, I've downloaded it. As soon as I copied the [indeed corrupted] Retaliation.demo.pbo into the missions folder and choose 'Single Mission', OFP crashed violently with 'no entry in missions.sqm' Since yesterday evening, when everything was alright, it could've been caused only by this newly copied .pbo file. Easy fix. Thanks for zipping it up!

Phantastic first mission! Great intro! Just starting up like the official '85 campaign with brilliant [and believable] russian voice acting (love the laughter..) The ambush is an deadly lookout on an upcoming, I believe, very hard campaign. Good! Will sit and wait anxiously for it to arrive. There are some typos in briefing and onscreen messages, but nothing serious. --- (An word of warning [when playing with headphones] and one dislike though..) I'm playing with headphones and usually turned up with OFP. When you get captured, there is that grenade xplosion and this VERY high-pitched, sharp sound. It really did hurt my ears as it was too much. Could you please tone down those and similar sounds just a little bit? It is _not_ annoying and fits quite well;..just way to intensive. Realism; but game. Many thanks in advance. Again, looking forward to this campaign !!!

May I add (and highly recommend! ) Waskosky's War (17 missions; by ThruYerStErNuM) [variable action oriented] and Samsons War on Terror (SWoT v1.30) (16 missions) by Sam Samson [i just love the ongoing storyline] Both are very good (imHo) and avaiable from: http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=campaigns

I just want to add some suggestions, maybe you will see an improvement then. 1. Which version of OFP do you run? If it's not patched on both machines to the highest level, chances are big causing various trouble. (First version numbers of OFP were really bad, even on LAN) 2. Do you run identical networkcards and if so, are they both set to run with identical settings? If possible, do not let them run on 'Hardware default' or 'autodetect' but rather check their properties for '100 M/bit, Full Duplex' or, if that doesn't help further, '100 M/bit, Half Duplex' Here' s room for MANY packet losses... 3. As far as I know, WinME and XP use different packetsizes for the TCP/IP protokol;...another main reason for major lag and packet loss while gaming. You need to set identical packetsizes for your LAN, if you use different OS's. I would suggest rather using smaller packetsizes for gaming, especially OFP. (Many updates in shorter time) Edit: Read some here and especially last paragraph: http://www.speedguide.net/editorials/packet_size.shtml 2nd Edit: For 2K/XP, additional values need to be adjusted to _force_ an certain packetsize: http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_reg_win2k.shtml (Scroll down to 'Additional TCP/IP Related Parameters' and follow instructions for 'MTU' Please keep in mind, that all those tweaks on that page are primarily meant for tweaking your internet connection;... but to experiment with equal 'MTU' values for _LAN_ with priority on optimizing gaming, the infos on above pages come in quite handy. 4. Are you using an Hub inbetween your 2 machines? If so, check if there is an 'packet-collision' LED;...if you got constant collision detects (hefty flicker on said LED) while playing OFP (or in general use) most certainly Point 1,2 or 3 got different and/or mixed values on both machines (hard-or software settings). 5. Please come back after checking/adjusting above things, and also lookup 'MTU' values in registry;..if you are comfortable enough on editing registry, change the values on both machines to '500' and playtest again. Â

>When you pay the money to buy it you expect going home and playing without any trouble< You just returned from wonderland, no? Wrong assumption;..I'm almost certain, you've wanted to write something along the lines of: 'When you pay the money to buy it you expect going home and there is already the first patch ready to download...' (and hopefully some more..) Dont take it personal, bud...

Seems he is still awaiting some answer from BIS regarding environment sound entries. On 02/10 he wrote about in another german forum (people there also awaiting his SoundPack for 1.42 [im]patiently There seem to be some problems with the environment sounds and the Jungle Everon addon(when it's installed), which (unintended) seems to modify the terrain properties (streets and driving over land) for all other islands as well. (heavy dust when driving on roads, slow speed on roads, ect.) Also, the wrong sound is then played. That is why he contacted BIS and it seems, he is still waiting for their answer. He already stated elsewhere, that he wants it to be (as)'perfect'(as it can be). Also he wishes to upload one complete pack and not additional 'fixes' later. I think, it will be _well_ worth the wait, when it's done, you all listened to his samples, no? Great job, he does. Lets wait some more...personally...I hope one friday evening, it will be ready for download...

Please insert the correct CD-ROM problem....
troop replied to Maldita Vecindad's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
keKoJoNes, did you try 'ForceASPI' yet? http://www.flexion.org/aspi/ In a nutshell, it will let you install the latest ASPI-layer even if there is no Adaptec device in your machine. Also, it helps with a lot of these CD-reading problems in various programs. I would recommend to install it (ASPI) anyways. --- On a second note, recently I've installed XP and do now get the same 'insert the correct CD...' message. I did _not_ encounter this problem once with 98SE thus had no problems so far installing and/or patching OFP. Only now, I got them as well. It begins, when the CD(v.1.0 EU) is in my Toshiba drive and XP starts up;...continous spin-up of the CD, but it wont get read correct. When I open Explorer and click on my H: drive, XP states, the 'drive' is 'not formatted' or 'cannot be read' 'incompatible format' and other b*llsh*t. SAFEDISK2 IS B*LLSH*T ! (When it comes to correct CD reading) Thats not all: XP has some confirmed problem reading protected CD's. Those are acknowledged by M$ and some fix has been provided by them. (Check Windows-Update) Whether it does help or not, I do not know, because I did not install it yet (and wont; read on) Like I've said, I did not have these problems with 98SE, but can now feel for the people as well, how it is to sit in front of their computer trying to get OFP to run due to this CD reading problem. It IS really annoying. But eventually, I can start and run OFP (without cracks, mind you) Before the description how, let me tell you that my Toshiba never had problems reading CD's but with SAFEDISK2, it's another story. In case of OFP, I have meanwhile tried to exchange my CD-Drive with the Plextor 24/10/40 burner from the second machine;..but low and behold, same problem. At least this should have been able to read the CD correct/first try/ no? bah. Of course, me tried every trick, that proved successful under 98SE, to get the CD read correct/first try/ like: BIOS; all autodetect off BIOS; DMA off, PIO only - XP; PIO only XP; all caching off(on tested) -all CD caching makes the read problem worse! XP; all Autorun features to 'no action' XP; inbuild CD burning feature off(as well as switching the service off) - Null. The problem persists. The CD cannot be read correct. So far, only this procedure helps: 1.Starting XP _without_ the CD in drive. 2.Starting the Explorer 3.Hover the cursor over the CD-drive and be ready to click. 4.Insert the CD. 5.As soon as the light of the drive lits up, immediately click on the CD-drive (timing..lol) ...hourglass...2 secs max. (if longer, failure is imminent) And now, either the content of the CD is shown, or the above read-error shows up AGAIN. If it shows up, no matter how often you refresh;.. the CD will NOT be read! So;.. eject the CD and(!) close the Explorer. From now on, you will have to repeat steps 2 through 5 _continously_, UNTIL the CD is read correct in the Explorer. (If it is not read after 5-10 tries, you ARE out of luck and should try another CD-Drive maybe-Codemasters will not be able to help you.) Only AFTER the CD content is finally displayed in the Exporer, you will have NO further problems starting up/running OFP...weired? (no, weak. BS SF2...) At least, that's the current behaviour here. Means, I can not start up XP and immediately start OFP to play. Eventually, I get there... That IS an problem, but if this can be fixed...I dont think so. It's the CD. Good luck! -
May I highly recommend to read a bit about the Audigy (models) before you shell out the money? --- http://de.europe.creative.com/support/forums/forum.asp?foru=51 --- On a short note: I Â got it up and running now without ACPI on KR7A-RAID;..but, it took me 4 weeks(!) to get there. (XP;.. 98se is _slightly_ less complicated to set up) The driver installation is _not_ easy or, more common for many users, you run into horrible (I mean it) problems later. ('Squeals of death', BSOD, crackling...the list continues) At least do yourself an favour, and _wait_ for their next drivers release (whenever that might be..) and the _user comments_ on those. The tech support of them is NOT able to help you with the various problems, beware! I will say this: Since the days, when I owned my first SB 8-bit, and almost every Creative SB model thereafter, I did not Xperience such an b*tch of installation. Never. And I'm not alone, just read that forum or the NG's for the Audigy. If you want, look up my username, and how I finally managed to get it up running under XP. (W2K: Same problems) I tried all MS OS's I also have to comment on the Quality of the Audigy (hardware; NOT drivers or included software) to be fair. It's phantastic, IF it runs. Way better than my former SBLive! It's your money and nerves; you decide. --- PS: Oh, btw. Just to add to the original topic (pardon me) the footstep bug is still present with the latest Audigy drivers, when EAX and HW Accel is on. Without, it sounds shit anyway. This is after 2 fresh installations of XP and thereafter OFP. 1.0(EU) -> 1.20 -> 1.30 -> 1.42 (DX8.1) Meanwhile, I've installed OFP at least 8 times (formerly 98se and SBLive! present) and ..ja, it's still there. But I aint complaining;..at least OFP does not CTD or lock-up which would be much more severe;..especially with Satchel's soundpack coming up... .)
