ARMA 2 Aircraft wishes
studebacher replied to {9thInf}Winchester Delta1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I honestly think ArmA 2 would be better off if they ditched playable fixed wing aircraft. As mentioned by imkompetent, the speed and engagement ranges of modern air combat are outside the scope of the ArmA (and I imagine ArmA 2) engine. Have them there, but make them operate more as a script, ie, the ability to call in an airstrike on an area, with a random number of enemy units destroyed, or a precision strike on a particular building or unit. if enemy AA units are in the area, there could be a chance the strikes don't come through. It sounds simplified but I think it would end up being more realistic from the ground perspective. I would still like to see choppers though, with ai acting in a less "stop and go" manner, improved flight characteristics and more emphasis on the fact your flying a hi-tech piece of equipment. -
No, I've never had CTD's with Arma though. 158.22 with maxmem 512 and hdr 16 seem to work for me.
-
Have any of you people having major LOD problems tried the 158.22 drivers? I am using windows XP 32-bit and a 8800GTS I have way less LOD problems with this patch than the previous patches, any low LODs that do pop up disappear in less than a second. I am also using maxmem=512. The only problem I have with this patch is high and very high shadow settings don't work.
-
OK. I am using a GF 8800 GTS 320MB with no LOD problems, I used to have a few with the older beta patch. I am using 158.22 drivers for win xp 32, I run all settings on high except postprocessing and AA which are on low. The graphics have been toned down a bit in some aspects, the trees appear to be lower poly etc but it is also running faster. The only graphical error I've found so far is that there are no shadows for trees and smoke in high or very high shadow settings. The AI is way improved especially with aircraft. The AH-6 will attack ground units effectively now. Soldiers seem to react better to being shot at and will hit the dirt and take cover. Overall, an improvement in my eyes.
-
Hmm, given it a quick go. The Armoury is cool, looks like the AH-6 will attack stuff now. Performance is way up, but it also looks like graphics are way down, is everyone else not getting shadows for trees and buildings anymore? It's like High shadow settings are what low was before but without shadows for trees and smoke etc.

White "fog" even with high viewdistance (8800GTX)
studebacher replied to snake22000's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Just installed the new beta patch and am pleased to say.... THE FOG HAS CLEARED at least mostly, I can see much further than before. I am using an 8800GTS 320MB and can now see 10k's. There's still more of a blue tint to everything than I remember with my 6600GT though. I'm going to install the new 101.2 drivers now to see what that does. -
^try using a download manager maybe, worked for me. Gave this patch a quick test and was very impressed. I have an 8800 GTS and I can now see up to 10k's view distance, not sure if this is the fog bug fully fixed but it's a whole lot less noticable. Performance as a whole seems a fair bit faster. Only thing I don't like so far is the vertical view centering for vehicles.
-
I agree about the helicopter view centreing, it's better to be able to set it. Downloading now, will see if the reduced haze fix has an effect on the gf 8800 fog bug. (I think it's related to nvidia drivers though).

Where do I re-download Morphicon version?
studebacher replied to studebacher's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks, www.metaboli.co.uk looks like the place to go. The morphicon site has been down for at least a week. -
Just wondering where I go to download the morphicon German version of Armed Assault if I lose my copy. Can't seem to access their webpage anymore.

Yeah, maybe someone can be scripted in a map to note who blows up empty vehicles or something? Hopefully I'll be able to play on the server again and the admin (who seems to be one of the regular 30 or so australian players) will see I'm not an idiot.
-
Lists like this scare me after the game I just played. After playing for about an hour and a half on one of the few aussie co-op servers I finally get to see some combat, about 4th on the scoreboard, no TK's. Some moron blows up all the gear at the base. I got the boot, tried logging back in thinking it was an accident, Asked why I got the boot. "Cause you blew up the base, bye." says admin. Tried getting in again and explaining but no good. I was so dissapointed.

Hey thanks for the replies. I'm lucky enough to have a 1Mb/1Mb connection, which is amazing for country Australia. It looks like I can get a ping of around 200-300 for servers in the US and some in Europe. Maybe I should try hosting a game to see how many Aussies are playing. Also do you really have a 100 MB connection?, that sounds incredible.

Hi, I have been playing OFP since it's demo was first released. However, I have never really gotten into online multiplayer on it or any other game. Now I have ARMA, I am really interested in taking it up. Anyway, this topic is for people to ask basic questions about online play. Here are my questions What is an acceptable ping for playing Arma? Am I able to join any game that isn't locked? or are most games private? Thanks, looking forward to ArmA online!
