  1. Free up more hdd space. Vista eats loads for system restore.

Here is what you can do to check how much space Vista is using for System Restore and to decrease it.

To check how much space is being used, go to command prompt with administrator privileges:

Click Start - All Programs - Accessories. Right click on ‘Command Prompt’ and click ‘Run as Administrator’.

Type the following in the command prompt:vssadmin list shadowstorage The results shown will be similar to this:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 2.702 GB

Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 2.933 GB

Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 5 GB

If you feel like Vista is taking up too much space, then use this command to lower it:vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=[Drive Letter]: /For=[Drive Letter]: /Maxsize=[space]For example, I executed this command to lower it to 2GB:

    vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=2GB

This is useful to anyone running Vista.

  2. I think this is something to do with the latest Creative drivers.

I have a xfi xtreme music card and I had EXACTLY the same problem as the OP with distorted/muffled sounds in ArmA when every other game/app was fine.

My pal Rhodite was kind enough to close the thread before I had a chance to talk out a solution crazy_o.gif

Unfortunatly I couldn't fix the problem, so I just did a system restore to roll back to the old (but working) drivers. Shame as I really wanted 5.1 sound...

    Hope you find a solution.

  3. Hi everyone.

I recently installed the new Creative sound drivers for my Xfi Xtreme music card (under Vista64).

Everything seemed fine but when playing ArmA a lot of the gun shots were muffled/distorted (sounded like they were under water).

I tried loads of different settings in the game and in the Creative Audio Console but I couldn't fix the problem. In the end I did a system restore to roll back the drivers.

Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

  4. Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes.

In OFP you could take the MP missions you downloaded when playing online and edit them.

I've found the Arma MPmissions cache under my profile in C:my docs but all the mission folders are all empty.

Simple question really, where are the mission files I've downloaded from servers, and can I open them up in the editor and mess about with them?

  5. hmmm, did you try turning off the power saving features?

In the following folder location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, what is the file size for each profile?

    Hi Vincent,

Yeah power saving is definitely off.

The profile I'm using is 4kb. Default profile is 6kb. Flight and racing 2kb. Combat flight 4kb.

OK, it looks like you are starting to get some corruption in the TrackIR profiles. Anything over 4KB in size is starting to get some file corruption.......

Here are the steps that I would use...

1 - Go into the NaturalPoint folder, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, and move the current "default" profile to a backup folder.

2 - Restart the TrackIR software, this will rebuild a new default profile.

Ok, I moved the default profile to the desktop and restarted the software (via shortcut) but there's no new default profile. All I have are my custom arma profile, combat flight, flight and racing.

Should I reinstall the trackir software?

PS. Thanks for all the help on this Vincent. I gotta say I love trackir and am so glad I bought it.

  7. @simonfitba: Have you been commanding when this happened? The standard key to disable the trackir is F9 and maybe it's just because of this double mapping. You can then just press F9 another time to enable it again, nothing broken then biggrin_o.gif

Nope. I changed the pause key. It's definitely not paused and pressing pause has no effect.

  8. My trackir seems to cut out after about an hour's use (orange led instead of green) and I have to exit ArmA and restart the trackir software.

Anyone else having this problem, or does anyone know how it fix it?

Something to take a look at.......

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Hi Vincent, thanks for the reply.

The trackir 4 is plugged directly into the pc and there is no power saving on the usb port.

I'm not sure what you mean about "isolating the device" but there is no other usb device plugged in beside the trackir.

Is it possible I need to change a light filtering or dot tracking option?

As I say, it works great for an hour and then the orange light comes on the vector isn't recognised any more.
