Disclaimer: Not my idea. I forget where I stole it from. I believe what is needed with regards to the addon situation is standard packs of themed addons. You choose the single best* addon in a given category and bundle them together into themed mod folders. You then slap those mod folders on an OFPWatch compatible server somewhere. People download a mission, look at the readme. It says they need the US Infantry pack, the Russian Infantry pack etc. They then load up OFPWatch and download those particular mod folders. Next time they downloaded a mission they might only need one or two standard packs or none at all. The more missions they downloaded that used this scheme, the better value downloading those packs would be. If you choose your addons well, people will already have most of what missions made by people who aren't using the scheme require (unless they've gone out of their way to use ancient or weird addons). * This is a tricky thing to do but I think you're basically trying to find a balance between an addon that looks cool, is realistic and is already popular. I could see people complaining that this means their addon is nevar going to get used if they're making something that there is already a good one of. Well, hard cheese. Stop making bloody Delta Force soldiers. Flashpoint is crap at CQB anyway ;)

Really? "w00t!" is all I have to say about that.
-
I know it's a contentious issue and I wouldn't want any of the people making stuff for OFP to feel that I am disrespecting them in any way (because there is some superb stuff coming out now and in the future), but wasn't part of the reason BAS left because they were reaching the limits of what they could achieve with scripting for their SEAL pack? That says something to me. Still I am prepared to be amazed again like I have been before. OFP has probably lasted longer on my hard disk than any other game and that surely must have something to do with the new content that keeps coming out for it.

We're definitely at or very near to the limits of what the engine can sensibly achieve. If you clevar people can get multiple weapons on vehicles working I think that will be about it for miracles worked.
-
Isn't XBox OFP using version 1.5 of the engine? It also looks like they're getting at least some VBS1 playermodels (sniper, tanker - the infantry are different but improved from OFP1). I think in some respects they might be thumbing their noses at you

It's a lot of fun

Good missions and campaigns. It seems like there's 500 billion Delta Force addons being made but not nearly enough good missions to use them in. Hyk's modern US infantry and E & S' Marine Assault pack filled another thing on my wish-list (nicely modelled regular infantry units). AI enhancements. I don't know what I'd want doing different exactly but it would be nice if the AI soldiers weren't so gosh-darn stupid. They don't even handle forest well, let alone cities :| They need a seperate set of AI for cities (i.e. they need to be able to recognise that they're in a built up area and start acting differently and not sprinting round the sides of buildings) It would also be nice if the enemy had some common sense. If I start plinking at them with a sniper's rifle they should pop smoke and find some cover. A well done UKSF pack What it says on the tin. The SAS and SBS need BAS'ing (or PKUF'ing).

Nice addon. The models and texturing really feel like some work has gone into making them of a high quality. Nice to see a different concept being done. Can't really get my head around the absurd whining earlier in the thread but I guess if BAS hadn't been setting the standard for so long people wouldn't be bothering.

Unlike McDonalds food, I am actually loving this. The glare effect looks bloody terrific on snow. Might try ramping the blue up a bit to get that "glacier" effect.
-
Guess what? Gawd but that movie sucked. Nearly as bad as Rambo.
-
The first demo. I am 90% certain it had torches on the body that you could turn on with "L".
-
Didn't the very first demo have those?

Just to clarify when I say "SF" in the context of US forces I am only talking about "teh green berets". It seems silly to call a unit by the name of a hat. If you read "Warrior Soul" by Chuck Pfarrer he gives a pretty good account of how a SEAL contingent worked with the Marines in Beirut. They did their best to dress like the local militias and mixed AK's, PK's and RPG's in with their own gear for that very reason. SEALs seem to do a fair bit of the James Bond stuff so I imagine they do that quite often.

There's a green beret on the Americas Army forums who says they do have a gear restriction. He's posting as (1VB)Francis_Marion. http://forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=48111&highlight=m240 Not saying it's out of the question an A-Team would have M60's it's just SEALs seem to still be using the Mk43 (which those look like to me - not nam era or eighties army M60's) whereas you have got that bloke there who you would expect to know saying Army SF don't. Not that I care particularly whether you're convinced or not. Just explaining why I think what I think. If you want to argue, register there and take it up with him.

http://www.news.navy.mil/view_gallery.asp?category_id=15 Obviously it's mostly training, but you can find some very good photos in there. High res and good quality, too. That photo at the start of the thread that someone identified as being an A-Team looked like SEALs to me (AFAIKnew Army SF don't use the M60 anymore). Incidentally, does a lot of the stuff in that gallery look like way too much fun to be something you get paid for?

VBS1 is all encrypted. The key contains the key to decrypt it when you run it. No key and it won't run. -

Yes. It's double-width. Doesn't matter too much though. It's still a nice add-on. Some ruggedised milspec notebooks would be neato if you're in the mood for making more computers. -
SEBnam only has early Vietnam SEALs and I haven't spotted any good Reagan era SEALs (which'd be nice if you were doing Beirut, for example). There's also Gulf War 1 to think about. But yes, it's the modern SEALs I am really eager to see.

It's metal and quite chunky as these things go (You reeeeaaaalllly don't want Dongles that are in any way fragile). I presume it's actual data storage is tiny. http://www.marx.com/ It's looks a bit Tonka, actually. The long white thing is the tag with your customer number on it in marker pen (which is why I scanned the side that was blank). -
If the sniper has to be doing both things, why not give him a SEAL-ised SPR with a 3-9* zoom Leupold MR/T on (or some other weapon that can serve at both ranges)? The sniper would have a spotter with something more suitable for close range, anyways.

Yes. That's right. Scanner doesn't work. Must send VBS1 to BlackDog... You Jedi mind tricks won't work on me. [ig]http://www.spm1138.com/VBS1cov.jpg[/img]>100kb -

I'll try and remember to scan the VBS1 boxart and USB key for you -
Very nice. You going to do some Mk48's as well?

Game-what-now? ASE is where it's at Flashpoint needs OFPWatch built in. It also needs Join-In-Progress. Whatever happened to that?
