  1. The impression I was getting from what I was reading was that there wasn't going to be a vast amount of differences visually in the engines of OFP and OFP2. Looking at the competition, this would have been a bad thing. Maybe they've decided to make OFP2 prettier?

    Ai thread

I'd like different behaviours for different kinds of squads. Particularly, I'd like a "formation" for SOF units and scout/snipers where each bloke followed the one in front of him at a ten metre interval. Supressive fire should work (the maps should have more cover on them so the AI has something to cower behind in terror), as should IAD's. I'd generally like it all to be a bit more fluid. Rather than just keeping station in a formation I'd like each AI soldier to give some thought to where he is and what he's doing. They should move to cover more readily when you're getting shot at (because the current default behaviour is often just about the worst possible thing they could be doing). I think for FIBUA/MOUT the easiest thing to do would be to designate bits of the map as being "built up" and switch over to a more appropriate set of AI responses. The AI should do fire and manouvre stuff (i.e. split it's squad into teams and leapfrog them). The default mode of movement should be walk. Tree!
  3. And you know this how? Not to sound condescending or anything, just wondering if you're actually stating fact, or an opinion based on something you've read somewhere. BIA are very good at keeping us in the loop. Seventh makes himself available on the forums and via email for answering questions. He said this on vbsresources.com (might even have been on the pleb forum):
  4. Now, how is it that you people are buying it? I asked before, and instead of an answer I got a smartass remark. That's in the US & Canada via Coalescent. The rest of the world can order it direct from BIA. I think Coalescent are opening sales up to everyone this month.

    Lets make our own VBS1

Be sure and use this - http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....69;st=0
  6. Ah quit crying and stop acting surprised. There's NOTHING up at the official OFP2 website. No screenshots, no movies, no entirelyprescripted E3 demo. Even games that are nothing like ready get shown at the E3. That obviously meant at least late 2005. They aren't doing this to "force" you into buying VBS1 or FlashpointXBox. They don't actually want you buying VBS1. Go read their FAQ: Just be glad that they are getting the time to do a proper job. If that is because they are selling VBS1 (nothing to do with this delay. VBS1 = BIA. Flashpoint 2 = BIS) and FlashpointXBox then great. Flashpoint was a perfect idea ("War!") let down in some areas by what felt like rushed or even unfinished execution. More time = More ideas crammed in. The games industry does, after all, run on money. If you're thinking of buying VBS1 as an interim measure I'd suggest you take a long hard look at what it offers you for the money you'll be spending. It's not that different to Flashpoint. If the money is at all an issue, give it a miss. What will keep Flashpoint alive is good missions and campaigns.

    Lets make our own VBS1

In that case it's not really making VBS1 you're talking about, it's making some very high quality modern warfare oriented mods.

    Lets make our own VBS1

If you read the FAQ it's like "This is not a game. Don't buy it.". The pricing does not reflect VBS1's value as a game (9 sample missions, no campaign etc. etc.) It has more to do with what VBS1 can do for you in terms of training. If it's a game you're after, I'd stick with res.

    Lets make our own VBS1

People post the IP's at http://www.vbsresources.com. I wouldn't say there were a "lot" of people online.

There's a couple of VBS1 servers up now.

    Lets make our own VBS1

VBS1 actually seems to perform a bit better than OFPR on my machine. Certainly I can ramp the viewing distance up higher so lag wouldn't be the issue. You know, you probably could replicate most of the non-training specific stuff in VBS1 in Flashpoint (i.e. the Islands and the Unit modules). The main issues would be the quality of the addons and realism of the addons. Nothing in VBS1 is the way it is because someone thought it'd be neat even though they knew it was unrealistic. People are actually getting paid to make the sexy stuff for VBS1. It's their day job. I just don't see much stuff for res that is of the same standard. The people that are still making stuff that good can only devote so much time to it.

    Shooting from vehicles

Any chance of remembering which specific addon this was? Think he is talking about the UK pack but I don't remember anything like this It's the Landrovers and one of the APC's. If you get in the turret you have the option of detaching the weapon. If you get out you then have a GPMG. You can reattach it.

GIGN addon (french special forces )

They use the Manurhin MR73, don't they?

    Does OFP need an LCAC?

The LCAC is definitely in VBS1. (MTVR is a kind of truck).

    Harrier Jet

It's been a while since I had the FLK harrier (uninstalled and then reinstalled) but it is broadly the same thing as that. No overheat. I am not sure if you can make the AI VTOL.

Vote for what you want most in ofp

And darn sexeh they are too.

    Addon Suggestions Read Description first

The only Green Berets I have seen thus far released are actually wearing berets There are some in development though. I know Extraction is working on a set and I seem to recall at least one other mod working on some. Those guys look like most of the Delta force addons currently available though (MICH helmet, assault vests etc.)

    Addon Pack - what addons???

I'd recommend sticking to standard stuff. That way if you have part of the pack you're not redownloading stuff.
  21. spm1138

    Help Wanted

AFAIHaveRead both the SAS and Delta have women members in their intelligence units. I also recall reading in a newspaper (sorry, having a hell of a time finding the article) that women have passed SAS selection.

    The future of operation flashpoint

OFPEC is teh good, but it would be nice if you could run complex searches on the missions. Some sort of genre on the missions would be nice. Assuming there ever were standard upgrade packs that would be something else you could search on.
  23. If he didn't know, why was he flinging around stupid allegations like that? Wouldn't the sane thing be to ask before having a tizzy about it? But yes, I agree it is immensely cool that Bohemia Interactive are now paying some of my favourite addon makers to produce cool stuff for VBS1. I heard tell of a SF2 pack

    The future of operation flashpoint

About the missions - what we need is the editor patching out of the game or the ability to .pbo a mission taking out of the game. The fact that you can just slap something together in ten minutes from within the game encourages the proliferation of tosh. I made the mistake of signing up to be a reviewer at opflash.org. The review archive contained mountains and mountains of crap. There were a few genuinely good missions in there but most of it ... This one could perhaps be solved by having a better database of missions that allows you to search by the factors you mentioned as well as some sort of user rating feature so you can filter out everything below a certain * rating. It could have a scanner on the submissions thing that didn't allow anything that hadn't been properly closed up to be submitted.
