    HAPPY EASTER!! :)

Happy Easter to all who celebrate our saviours resurrection. To all else...Happy Sunday. Afterall, It's all about faith anyhow right? Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    300

I believe the Greek states razed a persian city to the ground and the Persians declared that they would return the favor, hence their march on Athens. I had seen a documentary on the spartans a few weeks ago and the significance of their power was in their formations. Once they fell from formation they became as other trained soldiers. The documentary also covered a fantastic strategic naval battle that the greeks had fought against the persian navy that was invading during the same conflict. I haven't seen the movie but according to the documentary, Athens was sacked but before the persian army could return home, the remaining greek navy caught up with them and destroyed them. The important lesson learned from the battle was that the Greek states had set aside their differences to unite against a threat to their civilaztion. May not be an accurate summarization, I'm going on memory from a few weeks ago. The documentary was on either the History channel or the military channel about a week before the release of 300.

invisible units and objects in game

Thanks Nephilim, that's definitely a step in the right direction. Though it seems I have to adjust something in options everytime I load the game just to get the units to be seen. The settings stay the same but the units are invisible every load until I change something in the options menu. I tried autodetect but it doen't seem to help. Any other ideas?

invisible units and objects in game

So this has happened with others? You mean I am not alone in this matter? I have unistalled OFP and cleared out all files affiliated with it, ran my ccleaner and then reinstalled the game. My PC has ran perfectly before with these addons so it is not a question of performance. I receive no error messages but I have noticed that when the game boots up and a white square appears in the top left corner briefly, then I know that I have some addons that are going to cause the invisibilty. I'm not sure though if that is relevant.(it seems like it) The addons also cause BIS objects to be invisible. I'll attempt the auto adjust theory when I get home. Thanks very much for your replies fellas, it's greatly appreciated.

What have you sacrificed for ArmA/OFP?

That's funny My friends are OFP illerate as well and when I try to explain the potential of the game as if I am a salesman, they just don't get it. My wife has become my shrink. I talk to her about the game and she shows the greatest of interests but you can tell on her face that she hasn't got a clue.

What have you sacrificed for ArmA/OFP?

I'm married with 5 kids. I have never considered my time at the game, forums or deciphering tutorials a sacrifice or even a waste. It is my time to relax and learn and simply to do what I enjoy. I purchased CWC gold, Resistance and after cracking the center of my disc from repeated use, I purchased a copy of GOTY. I have upgraded my PC to suit OFP since it has been the only game that I have played for the past 5 years.(other than halo on xbox with friends) I enjoy learning the technical side of it just as much as playing the game(if not more). To top it all off, I really have not learned as much as I would like to know, BUT It has been great trying and I will continue to try untill I can #1 complete a mission , #2 create an addon , #3 create a world . If I have sacrificed anything, it has been sleep.(tons of it. since I can't play untill my little ones are tucked in) Overall, I still enjoy the game and all that it has to offer. OFP will never go quietly into the night......it owns the night. As for ArmA...I'll wait until it has improved some.

    Abandoned Armies 1.4

I believe that was what made the mini campaign such a hit, Trevor. Most maps only include locals with the objectives as part of the playing field but you have brought to life the whole of the island. Instead of passing through a ghost town, you find yourself sidetracked from your current objective to recon the patrol routes and observation directions of the new units that you just encountered at the next local. It's a simple effect that everyone seems to overlook. Just little details that are so simple to incorporate have seperated this labor of love from all others. In fact, not finding everything in the mission does not make it a waste but a highly replayable mission with the potential of immersing the player into a different style each time he/she plays it. I for one have enjoyed the sidetracking and having to adjust my approach style for each grid of the map. Having to improvise to adapt to ever changing environments "IS" reality....................... All of the life that you have brought to the island would only be moving targets without your storyline. Two seperate factions, with differing strengths and weaknesses cooperating for mutual survival that inevitably results in confrontation is a reallistic story. Throw in some innocent bystanders and you have the planet Earth. Just one concern....I have been playing with ECP so the weather is unreal. It rains off and on in an inconsistent fashion. Have you made the mission to be clear most of the time? If so, I think I'll restart without ECP. Thanks for the Mission, it is greatly revered. I stand in awe at mission makers such as yourself.

Which effects do you prefer ?

No doubt D@nte; I was simply adding my opinion for future viewers.

Which effects do you prefer ?

I truly enjoy them both. I prefer ECP over Flashfx for many reasons but is it possible to incorporate FlashFx into the ECP at the same time? That would improve some gameplay for me. FlashFx for it's fiery display and Burning structures.....ECP for all else. EDIT: Is there a way to add the fiery explosions from FLASHFX without adding the whole pack into the ECP?

    ECP vs Y2K3

Sorry, to repeat threads but my questions were left unanswered. I realize that there are a diversity of preferences from mod to mod but I am currently running the original ECP mod which seems to be enough to suffice untill the release of AA. My question....what precisely are the differences between these 2 mods? Visual effects, sound effects, object behaviour, AI reaction? I would certainly be willing to improve the immersion if it were worth the download and file changing but I would rather not attempt it if it doesn't change much. Basically, what does Y2K3 have that ECP does not? And what improvements have been made to the units in EECP? Thanks for any reply. Â Â

Thanks for everything Karantan. You helped tremendously.

    ECP vs Y2K3

Undoubtedly , the decision is mine, I realize that. But was just trying to pull some details out of your experience. But that's cool. By visual enhancemnets you mean EECP, other addons or tweaking of you own skills?

    ECP vs Y2K3

Wow! Did I overlook the topic or what?! Thank you for sacrificing the time to reply Karantan. But before I delve into these threads, would you be so kind as to share your opinion?? Pleeease??? I am currently running ECPv1.085 and am debating on wether to Download EECP. Is it worth it? I have some of those addons but will they have the effects without EECP? Again, I thank you for the useful links.

    Don't need all the eye-candy!

To highlight, insects and other faint sounds add tremendously to the ambience of immersion. They are easily tuned out by battleready focus but powerfully overwhelming when noticed. I have literally caught myself glancing about for the location of the flies or voices. They help the soldier maintain his awareness and prevent his tunnelvision and at the same time, glancing about can get you spotted. Something so simple to add is so easily overlooked. Sad

    Blue Skies I

Mathias, Blue skies was truly enjoyable. I seriously got cold chills when the boys were flying in with Pink singing to em. Excellent choice of music there BTW. I have to admit though, I chuckled at the voices. One of them rednecks sounded pretty close to one of my neighbors. It put me right at home. It did seem a little slow at first....but I suppose war is boring while awaiting your life to be swept into a frenzy of panic. During the approach into town as we maneuvered from building to building on patrol(well as I maneuvered while the AI bravely trotted)..........That sniper shot that came from absolutely no where and sent me rolling onto my side? What can I say? I literally sit back in my leather chair with my jaw dropped absorbing the insanely cool concept of close calls. I even paused the game to reflect. Man that was cool. The recon was a cool reality too. The broken "official" equipment" lol, what a reality check. I enjoyed the story, the theme song and your choice of location but a few things dampened the gameplay a bit and this I know has nothing to do with your mission making.....AI does not cross narrow bridging well at all, nor do they traverse the swamps well. They just don't like the water do they? They walk right through the bridge railing and into the pirahna pits below and get stuck in the swamps. So for PartII, might I suggest single man covert missions into the tangles of the vines? The lone sniper was great for offering a sniper rifle for the hike ahead. Although, a spotter would have been helpful to that poor soul. The rifle served me well in my journey across the fields when I encountered the MG post nested on the hillside among the foilage protected by the sqaud that didn't have a chance. Good placement. If not for the fog and rain, I could have probably picked off the entire hillside near the bridge with that longarm. Maybe it was my settings but the counter attack at the hilltop villa seemed too dark. My squad removed the threat of counter attack before I could even get a fix on what location they were coming from. It added a bit of battle confused reality in there but HECK! I didn't even get to shoot anyone. The swamp retreat for me was absolutely hideous. Dark with a lot of running and a squad with the IQ of 10 years old. I pride myself in completing missions with my full squad intact (leave no man behind) but the swamp was painfully bad. I gritted my teeth as they clambered off of the low bridge at the abandoned swamp fort only to drown in digital error. "It hurts me dearly to leave you stupid confused AI in the textured pixel sea, But I...must...move...on." Anyhow, the end of that mission took some patience as the chopper circled me for quite a while (I thought I had seen the pilot laughing but it was just the glare)before I suppose I got to the correct spot for pick up. The individuality of the large assault was refreshing. I like the ambience of a full scale assault while the player has a seperate but adjoined objective that effects the outcome of the battle. Kudos on that. Great work! I'm not much on beta testing as my knowledge of programming is restricted to me digging it up off of the forums and figuring it out on my own but I look forward to downloading PartII and delving into it's secrets. Thanks for the time that you sacrificed on this Campaign. It spurs newbies like me on to learn more and more about scripting.

    Don't need all the eye-candy!

Have they already completed AA and OFP2 and just looking for a backer? I'm clueless on how it all works(the Gaming Industry that is) and am curious if AA and OFP2 are both created by BI. If so, how different could they be? Disregard this blabbering, I found a thread on this topic.Sorry.

    Don't need all the eye-candy!

I agree with Chunder. Graphics is a must to create the right ambience but that's not what keeps you coming back. What sold me was the freedom of completing each mission without feeling as though I am being herded into a cattle gate with little control. Another important factor is the awesome ability to download addons, mods, missions, etc. and have class gents such as the ones that troll these forums to hit up for advice. One aspect that would greatly increase the realism Chunder mentioned briefly, was the presence of streams and creeks in the proper locals wether dry or flowing and the ability for the AI to interact with the water in every way. Hopefully these attributes will appear in AA as well as OFP2.

    a different story

The guys/gals behind the scenes at BIS undoubtedly invest pride into this title and I am confident that the same pride will carry over if not flood over into the future games of this same series. The latter years of the cold war erra would be great or Perhaps late 80s, early 90s when the Clinton office took over and ruined, I mean ruled the U.S military and made the cuts in their numbers. This would make way for a more diversified Nato with not so much but not too little U.S involvement. Maybe involving soldiers(or groups of soldiers) from different nations to form a close bond over the course of the game similar to that of Armstrong, Gastovski and the others. Maybe the soviet supplied Iraq was beginning to amass what they needed to become a threat to NATO and during a possible push towards the Soviet Union to capture the notorious General Guba(that we all swore was dead and discovered otherwise) we unveil Guba's next masterminded plan of terrorism through the Saddam loyalists. Something along these lines would serve the needs of all I think. Not excluding but not surrounding the super power nations, and at the same time involving more of the smaller(but not lesser) nations, It would maintain the NATO vs. Soviet theme with a twist of present day, it would be in or around Europe and maybe stray towards the middle east towrds the end or perhaps even trace Guba back to Korea(who know's-anything is possible with fiction). It could even take OFP to the cold snowy parts near russia and back down to the desert only to end up in the land of Korea. Whatever they decide to conjure is sure to be great so long as they maintain that essential freedom to roam and complete the tasks in diverse ways. I think also more tutorials or shortcuts in the mission editor or even a booklet with procedures on how to script(or make things happen) the OFP way would help ignorant wannabe mission editors like myself to better my creativity.
