He has also made it possible to use limpet mines. You can download it here<span id='postcolor'> So is this mod still in dev? Did he get o2 yet? Seems like a bit of a pain to add to missions at the moment but I guess in a 'future?' version it wont be. It goes allong the lines of what would be usefull, S.C.U.B.A as a vehicle that you can eject from, but what about a non S.C.U.B.A wearing soldier who needs to cross a river or stream (or heaven forbid a beach landing) without ending up dead? That is part of the problem as I see it. But the S.C.U.B.A is cool

Western Special Ops teams can select any weaponry they need/want to get the mission done and done right, whether it’s made in the USA or not. H&K get the most use because they’re reliable and accurate.

so, like yea.... we were umm... talking about swimming or something like that... i guess.... i just love the way these boards turn into a chat room about anything 'but' the topic they are in =) so, if we get o2 i think the issue could be resolved easily, probably with a few things to iron out... first thing is to make it so the water does not damage/kill us when we are in it, then we can talk about making ourselves able to float our heads above water. has anybody been reading this thread who is in the o2 beta that could give it a try and see how crazy i may be?
-
funny, a moderator changed the topic of this thread =) It used to read "My, what a quiet gun you have granny! - The better to get a silent kill with my dear." why change it? whats the problem with that heading?? just trying to liven up this forum with some humor and i get smack-down... and then to give it such a super lamer heading like that... "i want silent guns and other toys" what the hell is he on about? whatever, with moderators like these who needs enemas =P

How many people would like some silenced handguns?? There are silenced sub-machineguns, why aren’t there silenced pistols (with requisite sub-sonic ammo)? And what about pistol scopes and laser sights? Now that we have these lovely side arms I would like to see them modified to the extreme, within realistic limits of course Who out there is a bomb-ass weapon modeler? I think a definitive silenced weapons collection is in order, then we can talk about other weapon modifications.

Why the hell do you want to swim?  In wouldnt change great things about the game. YOu can crawl into water you can take small or big boats, cross sandbanks why would swimming create a new challenge for you? I think other features are far more important.<span id='postcolor'> It’s not that I want to 'swim' exactly, I just don’t want to die when I am in water up to my waist.. I happen to be interested in stealth tactics and clandestine ops, so being able to simulate a full black bag mission would really interest me, and if you have played thru the SP game you have realized that BI like that kind of mission too. Not like we are asking for an engine overhaul, just a change in probably one or two lines of code on the models in question. Water does not = instant death in real life, no matter how piranha infested those waters might be.

Continuing with this watersports thread…… I would really also like to see a functional navy….. I mean look, Battlefield 1942 is waxing our beautiful sim. They can swim (for a limited time only)! They Have carriers, subs, and battleships (destroyers?). As well as landing vessels…(And what do you know, they have bombers, fighters, tanks, jeeps, halftracks, and artillery too.) Calling in artillery (indirect fire) from a battleship would be supersweet! You are inserted just off the coast of the suspected enemy base; you make your way to shore and stealthily approach and break out your trusty laser targeting system (or radio if you’re on a budget) and then a few moments later… poop-on-a-stick!!! With carriers you could have short range air platforms (sea harriers and the like) with the advent of the code in Resistance, if you were to play a campaign type battle, if any of your navy was destroyed you wouldn’t have it in the next round (but might get reinforced if you can still win the next battle) I would honestly like to build a fully functional carrier complete with working lifts (would there be a way to code a vehicle inside another vehicle to fill all the air stations? Or just request a air platform on the tarmac and it will spawn on the lift?…) Remember it takes a minimum of 5 minutes to get a plane armed prepped and off the deck in an emergency, and 15 if they weren’t already on standby.

Yea, maybe in a future patch we will see some swimming, we don’t need underwater action, just enough so that you don’t look like Jesus performing a miracle. Just having your head above water would be sufficient. I remember my uncle telling me about training for Special Forces going into Vietnam; he had to jump into water and tread water without his arms with a rifle in his hands, wearing boots and his BDU, he had to hold it for 5 minutes… he didn’t drown. I don’t know if they still do this training, but even if they don’t its still possible to tread water even with a weapon in your hands, now put that weapon on your back, and you could dog paddle or even breast stroke =)

Okay, how about this?... No engine overhaul needed =) The buoyancy is all that needs to be changed on the models, as for their speed while in water that should be set depending on what class you are (i.e. special ops) just like how the bmp slows down when it's in water. yes, it will take forever to swim if you get dropped 4k out, but I am talking about being dropped in the water just out of sight from land for clandestine infiltration, or being dropped in a hidden cove, out of sight, then swimming to the beach.

How did they get so special? (without any training whatsoever, guess they were all junior lifeguards or something)

sorry about the delay in posting again (the topic did go off on a tangent, didn't it..). Considering that this game takes place on islands it would be appropriate that there would be some sort of ability to swim for at least a select few troops, special units for each class (civilian, resistance, west, east). Every navy has had a form of frogmen since before ww1, and many other branches of special forces have training for water insertions even if they dont do them often.

Well, the animations aren't the hard part, its down to boyancy, like the BMP landing on a beach, its a tank that can drive both on land and water for crying out loud, the game can obviously handle it. All we need is code that checks how much gear the soldier is carying, if he only has a few nades and a handgun, he wont sink, but if he has more than that the usual drowning will occur. I mean, navy seals swim miles and miles with all their gear in a waterproof sack. I would just like to be able to do water insertions, ala Metal Gear Solid and the like. A (silenced)handgun or knife would be all you'd need to procure another weapon on site

You would have found out it very quicky if you had bothered to use the search engine. There is a diver addon made by walker, but you never actually go under water with it - it is basically a ship with a different model.<span id='postcolor'> Yea, I understand that BI has no support *currently* for underwater sports, but i am speaking in generalities here; not a single mil sim I have played has ever realistically portrayed this aspect. I mean if quake can do it (poorly) whats the big deal?
