Anyone else have a problem with the goty licenses?
streakeagle replied to streakeagle's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
Codemasters replied this afternoon: Hi, In reference to your inquiry... If you have the OFP GOTY version of the game, we have learned there were some manuals printed with bad codes. [two new licenses were provided ] Sorry about the problem. -
I purchased 5 copies of GOTY edition. Of the 5 copies, 2 licenses cannot be used. When typed in exactly per the last page of the book, it says "Invalid CD key" or words to that effect. The other 3 licenses work fine. I never had any problem at all with my other 3 copies of OFP/Resistance either. Don't know why they would issue bad CD keys. I emailed Codemasters about this, but haven't gotten a response back yet. This is somewhat annoying. I don't want to dig up my receipts and go back to the store Has this happened to anyone else.

I have a full speed retail Radeon 8500 128Mb. Whenever I tried hardware T&L, I got intermittent (every few seconds) bright (almost white) flashes of the entire screen. Enabling the W-buffer would cause olive green rectangles to show up in certain areas of terrain or across entire screen. I decided to try the latest Radeon beta drivers (wme-r8500-4-13-01-9068-efg for Win98SE) even though they were only supposed to solve a few issues with some other game. The new drivers not only gave a slight improvement in fps, but allows T&L and W-buffer to be enabled. No more white flashes! Pretty nice glint of the sun on the water while flying in a helo. But, it drops the framerate a bit, so I am still playing without T&L or W-buffer. If someone else needs these drivers (there is also an XP version), try going to Rage3D since they provide good links to these new drivers.

No, you shouldn't be thanking me. I am thanking you. Anyone who is giving me my beloved Phantom in any game I play deserves any support I can give them. Keep up the good work.

New soundpack for ofp and resistance
streakeagle replied to munger's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks! I was never happy with Wright's soundpack compared to Satchel's. Your soundpack ensures Resistance doesn't grate on my ears anymore. -
Way to go Wright. Sounds like the best approach unless Codemasters/Bohemia get around to making a superior official addon.
-
As long as OFP is playable with Satchel's sound pack and nothting else better becomes available, I am keeping it. I have been through some live fire training and Satchel has gotten it more correct than anyother game I have played simulating any kind of infantry combat. Ghost Recon and Medal of Honor aren't even on my hard drive anymore. For me, those games were never as good as OFP to start with, and OFP just keeps getting better in terms of both official revisions and user made missions and addons. Of course AI could always use improvement, damage modeling, graphic details, etc. But my only real gripe at this point (besides not having an official soundpack equal or superior to Satchel's) is the lack of pistols, knives, bayonets, and hand to hand combat in general. This game already graphically simulates killing people, I don't see where knifing someone while on a black op or using bayonets when out of ammo an in close would be a stretch to the "morality" of this game. Nor do I see where it would be especially difficult to code other than adding a few new movement patterns for virtual people. I would be more than willing to pay for an official addon that upgraded sound and added hand to hand combat, plus a few missions to try 'em out on.

Helicopters like the Blackhawk and Apache have killed far more people. The AV-8A Harrier had a terrible safety record with the USMC as well. Its the nature of VTOL aircraft. If every VTOL aircraft that was accident prone was canceled, we would have none. There is nothing inherently wrong with the Osprey concept. There might be some design or training issues that need to be resolved. If I were a helo pilot in the USMC and you asked me whether I would rather fly 30 year old CH-47s that are dropping like flies or risk flying a new design that flies twice as far twice as fast... hmm which one is a greater threat to my life? Either the present V-22 or an improved variant of it will be the long needed replacement for a large number of worn out Vietnam era helos. Of course, if the people in congress are as uninformed as some of the people posting here, they will conclude that the V-22 is a disaster and should be canceled. It is the political fluctuation in budget that has delayed this program from the start (it was needed over a decade ago!. It will be politics that ultimately kills this program entirely.

Please help especially those with voodoo 4's
streakeagle replied to KrAzEd AssassiN's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
I have both Voodoo 5 and Voodoo 4 and have never seen any purple dots! In fact the game looks and plays great on either one. I use Glide at 1024x768x16 with the graphics settings turned all the way up. With the Voodoo 5 I use FSAA x2, but to get better speed I don't use FSAA at all with the Voodoo 4. I haven't used anything but the 3dfx 1.04.01 beta drivers since I got OFP. They work the best anyway: most stable and most compatible. Are you running in Glide? D3D sucks in comparison, all kinds of little bugs. You may have more problems than just a driver compatibility issue Are there any symptoms in any other games you have? Sometimes those home brewed "drivers" come with default "performance" ini settings that do nothing but screw the Voodoo up. Try completely uninstalling per 3dfx directions: uninstall the tools, reboot, remove the card/drivers from the hardware list, then start all over using the 1.04.00 final release or 1.04.01 beta. The beta is slightly more compatible with DirectX 8, but supposedly the 1.04.00 is more stable. I have never had problems with either one and since the beta supposedly fixed a few things, I stick with it. Just saw your reply about overclocking. The Voodoo 5 seems to show no significant improvement in frame rates with higher clock settings. I was equally amazed to see no difference in frame rates using 130 MHz instead of 166 MHz. I have never played with the clock settings on the 4, but it is the same chip, so I would expect similar results.
