1. I disagree. Arma runs great on my 9800GX2 with all settings maxxed except AA(medium) and view distance(3500). On sahrani fps stays locked at my refresh rate of 60, except in a few forests. Every game Ive tried on this card runs great without issues(havent really tried that many though). Please state what resolution you're running. I get 80 fps at 800x600. At 1600x1200, I average 30+fps. rig 4870x2 E8600 @ 4GHz

That's a really good suggestion. I'm currently running my E8600 at 4ghz. My effective FSB is 1600MHz. I bought the Velociraptor hard drive because it's the fastest out there, outside of solid state (which I was seriously considering, until I found out Vista isn't supported very well). I'm at a loss for words if my system is too slow. I thought it was bleeding-edge, state-of-the-art. Here's some comparison's to the resolutions I'm trying out. Note the FPS counter in the upper left. It's the shadows that are killing this card. Does anyone play this game with shadows on? How are you making this possible? Multi-GPU rigs? EDIT: this link confirms some of my findings above. "ArmA: Armed Assault was playable with a HD 4870 X2 at 1,680 x 1,050 with a minimum frame rate increasing of 27fps. A single HD 4870 can only manage a 20fps minimum at this resolution while two HD 4870s in CrossFire only produce a 23fps minimum at 1,680 x 1,050. At 1,920 x 1,200 the results are a little peculiar. At this resolution a single HD 4870 is faster than both a HD 4870 X2 and two HD 4870’s in CrossFire - the HD 4870 X2 runs at a 18fps minimum, a pair of HD 4870s at a 20fps minimum and a single HD 4870 at a 21fps minimum. While none of the ATI hardware on test can run ArmA at 1,920 x 1,200, the GTX 280 can, with a minimum of 28fps and an average of 51fps."

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Now Futuremark Vantage shows Linked Display Adapters = False. I guess that's bad. Â Maybe I'll have to move back up to the other PCI-E slot. EDIT: I did hit up ATI Support like Dwarden advised.

I'm now running on the furthest PCI-E x16 slot on my X48 Rampage Formula mboard. Â I had to use Driver Cleaner and then reinstall the 8.5 drivers from the CD. Â The 8.8 drivers were pulling errors during install. Â I now have both GPUs running, I think. I'll next try to update to 8.8 CCC.

Didn't work with either. Â I'm still showing one GPU with zero activity in GPU-Z like my screenprint above. Â Anyone know if this would be considered normal activity under GPU-Z? I'll try my other PCI-E x16 slot, the one furthest from the CPU.
8. How does one pick this new .exe that's been renamed within CCC?

I'm on the northern Island in the town of Hunapu. Everything cranked except for AA disabled, post process effects on low, and blood on High (highest it can go). Â View distance is 2300m. 1600x1200 = avg 33-36 fps, going up to 45 1900x1200 = avg 28-33 fps, going up to 40 EDIT: I am using the new 8.8 Catalyst, which I believe seems to be working better. What ".exe" are you using, i get the low FPS you had, with the arma.exe, but get my vsync 60fps with "fear.exe" runs fast, now i will see if i get the nvda crash... Hi KK, I'm using the ArmA.exe. Â In the Catalyst Control Center, there's no option to use a different profile. Â Crossfire appears to be enabled by default with no need to worry about the software. EDIT: Unless I don't know enough about the CCC... Â Hmmm. EDIT 2: I ran two instances of GPU-Z, each tracking the different cores. Â Attached is the screenprint. Â Does this mean I'm not running one of my cores? Â I took the screenprint right after Alt-Tabbing out from ArmA.

Crossfire isn't available on this card. It's enabled by default. There's no option to disable or enable it with the Catalyst Control Center. I'll try the Catalyst AI path.

I wish another game was worth my time. Â Hah! Â My old rig definitely stressed gameplay over eyecandy. Â AsRock can testify to that. EDIT: Found a really good tool for controlling the fan on these ATi cards. Â I dropped from 90deg C to 50deg C at load with ArmA. http://en.expreview.com/img/software/0808/Expertool-ati.exe EDIT2: Don't use that fan control unless you uninstall the CCC and only have the driver installed. I had a bunch of soft-reboots while in-game before I figured out what it was. Alternatively, it's possible to edit the XML to "manual" and set the fan percent to 50%. I'm now running 54 Deg C while at load instead of 94 Deg C before.

I had box as the AA filter. Â I'll try Edge-detect. Â Thanks for the link. Â I'll hit ATI up. Regarding the two GPU cores, I had GPU-Z running last night and each core was reading 53-54%, individually. Â Could that really mean I'm only using one GPU? Â How else can you tell if both cores are being used? Â Temps are different (by 20 deg C), but that could be because both GPUs are "in series" within the heat sink. To add further fuel to the fire, enabling Crossfire isn't possible under CCC. Â There's simply no menu option within the current user interface. Isn't it normally down at the bottom under Overdrive? Â So I guess that means no ability to rename ArmA into Fear.exe, right? Â Additionally, I thought Crossfire was intrinsically "enabled" with this card and didn't need to have anything changed in the CCC. Â Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is looking more and more like a driver issue. Â Everyone's assistance is appreciated. Â Your comments and thoughts are most welcome.

Sorry, tried that. Â Single digit FPS. Â You can't max out the AA without a SIGNIFICANT penalty. EDIT: to everyone, I thank you for your responses. Â After further testing, it's the shadow detail that causes the greatest changes in FPS. Â I'll keep on testing with some overclocks coming soon. Just waiting for a HSF from newegg. For the record, using Catalyst 8.52 from the install disk. Â The latest driver from ATI (as of today) doesn't recognize the 4870x2.
