If America went into Iraq it wouldn't be a war that could be won from twenty thousand feet with laser guided missles, they will have to fight on the ground and accept the losses. Then they will have to install a new government and how stable will that be? look at Afganistan this last week. How much of a threat is Sadam? With all the media and (i assume) intellegence services watching his every move the man can hardly take a piss without the CIA knowing about it. If he had nukes would he use them? Of course not, the man craves power, why would he throw that away in the face of overwhelming american nuclear/ military superiority? He isn't a ideologist, he's a practical man and will do anything to stay in power, by threatening him with war we are more likely to push him to extremes. By replacing him by force we risk creating another generation of fundamentalists who see America and her allies as the route cause of all evil. It seem to me that Bush, after failing to catch Bin Laden (or however you spell his name) is trying to draw attention away from the failed war on terrorism by getting into a new war with Iraq. Blair just worries me full stop, he isn't too bad on domestic issues but when the yanks say jump etc. we shouldn't blindly follow America because of some misconcieved notion of there being a special relationship.

I'm a bit of a newbie to this forum, well i've never started a thread before anyway. I was wondering why red hammer is clearly hated so much. I never had a problem with it but i keep coming across references to it that slate it. Is it just because your character doesn't have the courage of his convictions and stay ruskie all the way or is there something more profound that i'm missing?

Yeah thats what i mean. In terms of scale OFP is on par with the falkans war (about the same number died needlessly on each side) i just can't imagine there being more than one resistance faction. Infact i find it hard to imagine a resistance faction emerging full stop that could stand up to the regular red army- especially since the campaign involves almost no guerilla tactics- victor trotska decides time and time again to fight the opposition on their terms, its not as though the red army were inferior to the yanks. Its almost like the end of return of the jedi were the rebels decide to engage the imperial navy at point blank range. On an entirely irelevant note has anybody else had problems with the end of Jedi? At one point Lando Calrissian says they have to get closer to the star destroyers, Admiral Ackbar says that they won't last long against those star destroyers. They get closer anyway then the fighters break off to attack the death star (thus weakening the rebel fleet) when the rebel fighters emerge from the destroyed death star the vastly superior imperial navy has dissappeared. Given that it was capable of mopping the floor with the rebels on its own were did it get to?

If its from the same people as IL2 (i'm a huge combat flight sim fan) then i'll buy it on principle.

I thought you couldn't but would be very interested if you could. Does anybody know?

How do you aim scud missles

Napalm would be kinda a cool, although i have no idea if it was still used in 1985. Still handy in close support of the infantry though. A scud lancher that could fire a missle at a target rather then  just into the air. Surface to air missles like the one in 'behind enemy lines.' Anti personnel land mines. Those explosives that they strapped to trees and things in the film 'platoon' don't know how the names spelt clamwores?? I reckon they would be cool, set to trip wires and things.

You would need to have a fully dynamic campaign for that to work which is something i don't think flashpoint can really do at the moment. Also given that Nogova is only a small island 100km square i couldn't imagine that there would be the space for rival resistance factions to emerge (why would they fight each other anyway when theres a common enemy?). It would be cool to have some sort of dynamic alliance system but I imagine it would probably be something for OFP2 or even OPF3.

I accidently destroyed the trucks the first time i played the campaign but just told everybody to take what they could carry off the dead and walk back to base. Second time round captured the trucks and if there is any difference i didn't notice it.

I don't think you can keep transport vehicles between missions. In some missions capturing tanks makes them available for use later on but as i understand it thats all.

He must have been a fairly senior figure in order to know so much.I didn't trust him. Guba must have known about him and used him to forward information, otherwise the trap that is arranged by Guba as seen in the cut scene at the beggining wouldn't have worked. We only hear him die in audio, maybe he isn't really dead?

Did everyone else have shortages of ammunition? I found that i had far too much, in any given mission i could easily equip everybody with a RPG lancher and i gave half my guys sniper rifles. There never seemed to be any shortage of ammo and that kinda killed any sense of resistance representing a guerrilla conflict. Also i think Victor Trotska may have read a book about guerrilla tactics and then decided that he didn't like the idea. Who ever heard of a resistance movement engaging in mass tank battles against regular troops? He even states in one cut scene that they have absolutely no chance of winning but as the campaign progressed i was half expecting him to unviel his plans to embark upon a full scale invasion of Russia.

Ghost Recon was good but without any of the scope of ofp. Very pretty though, you'll play it through in about a week and then never bother with it again. its kinda short lived - still worth it if you can find it cheap.
