i wasn't recommending it. i run other apps that most definitely do benefit from catalyst drivers. for example stock doesn't do well with opengl. i would guess it's a catalyst driver problem, since arma does not run at all with catalyst and does at least run without catalyst. i'm not an expert and don't even pretend to sound like one, like those guys who read a bunch of webpages, so i can't say for sure what the problem is. for right now our best bet is to dual-boot xp (if you have it). or get an 8800... but by all means complain to ati. :-)
-
windows uses a stock vid driver. i didn't try the ms radeon driver you can dl through winupdate - those used to be worse than cat's. i don't know if that would work better than the stock driver for arma or not.
-
wish i knew how to fix this? darkyyy! sort of a good news bad news thing... i found out how to run arma on vista64 with a radeon card! uninstall everything catalyst: driver, ccc, and wdm. it'll run. it's a bit jerky when i move fast, but by golly it runs. there's no dark/black screen. (x1900xt, e6600, 4 gbs ram, vista64 ultimate)

oy no serial number there unless it was sent in a second email. softwrap has no support. support@idea-games.com is the one to email. i have had them set me up with more activations on a saturday. good luck :-)
-
the serial number is not the purchase reference number. you use the purchase reference number when activating arma when you first start it up after an install or patching. the serial number you use in installing should be in the email: Confirmation - Purchase of ArmA: Armed Assault. at least it was for me. "When you run the setup, you will be prompted to enter your ArmA serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

#armedassault on irc.gamesurge.net

drop support@idea-games.com an email with your license holder name and purchase reference code requesting some more activations.

more info needed on your system - os, gfx card, ram, cpu, programs running in the background like norton, that sort of thing... have you updated all your drivers and installed the april build of dx9? if so, have you tried uninstalling /reinstalling arma?

-
try uninstalling 7.4 cat and installing 7.3 cat. i've got a x1900xt with 4gbs ram and vista ultimate 64 and get the black screen with dark gray background. iirc it started with 7.4.

i got the armaENG.exe file, no bin file, and it installed fine. ArmaENG.exe shows 2.8gb in my explorer.
-
i downloaded it twice and it refuses to install. it says something about beta version not installed or installation is corrupt and i have a working 1.05 arma install. (xp32) i have the sprocket version - could there be a conflict?
-
7.3 vista64 with x1900xt and no ccc running. after one hour it's stayed steady at 288 handles playing assorted SP missions. (sprocket version)
-
Where/how can you see these handles ? task manager - view - select columns - handles look in processes for arma (or whatver app you're interested in)
-
someone put the xp32 "beta" drivers on a faster site: http://www.filehosting.cc/?d=10E68A073
-
right click on the arma.exe file and look for properties in the popup menu (bottom). click on properties and look for the compatibility tab (should be on the top left) and click on that. look a little ways down the compatibility window and you will see "Run the program in compatibility mode for:". click on the little box beside that to "check" it and make sure it says "Windows XP (service pack 2)". click on the apply button on the lower right hand of that properties window. then right click on the arma.exe file again and click on "Run as administrator". you can do the same as above when you launch from the arma shortcut, but the compatibility tab would be on the right instead of the left of the properties window.

i run arma on vista64 with a radeon card (7.2 cat). make sure you have the latest directx build. download dxwebsetup.exe from MS and run it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloa....Lang=en run arma in xp sp2 compatibilty mode and as admin. doing those three things got me up and running. good luck

who would foot the bill for PB? if the publishers - which one(s)? who's gonna coordinate payment/implementation/maintenance?
-
voted no pb is ok for stopping the casual cheater, but it can be bypassed. also, it is Expensive. i'd much rather see BIS put just a fraction of that money in upgrading this forum with a decent search function - one that includes showing posts instead of just loonnngggg threads as results. :-)
-
get dxwebsetup.exe: http://www.microsoft.com/downloa....lang=en run that and it'll install the latest build. if you already have the latest it won't mess anything up. (ignore the foxes)

vista 64, x1900xt, 7.2 cat, and audigy se card w/ latest creative drivers arma starts and runs - though it jerks when i move fast making it unplayable for me till amd/vista patches make it all better <g>. (fortunately i have xp on dual-boot) have you downloaded and installed the latest dx9 from ms? vista doesn't do that automatically, at least mine didn't. could you be having securom or starforce issues? (i've got the sprocket version so i don't have copy prot problems) also, open arma.exe with xp compatibility.
-
same here i really like the new server browser and other changes. But, i see no performance increase whatsoever. i hope there's a 1.05 tweak(s) hiding somewhere.
-
the sprocket version i have, has softkey, no starforce or securom. i burned the install exe to a dvd so i don't have to dl it again. i believe reinstall requires an internet connection to sprocket for activation. it's been a while since i reinstalled it in december.

@SmellyJelly: You can also download the game via online distribution if you prefer; saving the costs involved in importing. I'm sure something was mentioned about the 505 version also being available online; possibly through Sprocket - though this is a guess on my part. no guess needed. maruk's announcement said sprocket would have the english version on feb 27th. if it's priced like the cz version, it'll be cheaper than waiting for a us release or ordering from britain.

not i, i run an optie 170 with the amd optimizer and have had no problems from it all. i have a x1900xt gfx card, not an nvidia. could it be something with your forceware driver?
