What was your fav scoped assault rifle?

In my hands. If the side of a barnyard was only the size of your head and that distance was timesd by 200, you'd be well and truly missing your head The Steyr's my favourite. 1) It's standard issue in the Aussie Army. And two, I can kick serious ass with it in any game it's in.

    Political neutrality

If OFP2 is/has elements of it's campaign based around Vietnam, then I beleive it is more likely that we see less 'lone man conquers entire army', seeing as the method of war implemented was way different to conventional war, as we've seen in the original campaigns. For this reason alone, I predict a much better campaign, as we, the player, no matter what team we are, will have to continually fight for the land that is won by the Americans during the day and then returned to the VC who prowl during the night. Imagine if a system of caves was implemented into the map. How awesome would that be to the dynamics of the campaign. Suprise guerilla attacks slowly chipping away the supply lines whilist american air patrols monitor the Ho Chi Minh trail. Mind you, we, and I mean BIS, would be walking on thin ice if they too acurately portreyed the war, assuming it's based during the 60's. The attrocities, though fairly well documented, haven't really matured enough for such graphical representation to be widely accepted. It's a balance of modern history and politics. I for one would enjoy seeing a historically correct campaign played out. For a mod team to develop such a historically correct campaign may be OK, But that thin line between truth and offensive content is one that few game makers are willing to cross. Their funding and markets could be at stake.

    Political neutrality

I patially agree. If you remove cinflict by making the parties involved neutral, there would be no reason for conflict in the first place, thus there would be no bias. Whick during war just doesn't happen anyway. Soldiers are conditioned to conform to a particualar method of warfare, it just so happens that there would be rambo's out there, waiting for the oppurtunity to be a one-man-army. (wouldn't it be a great cutscene to see such rambos to be simply blown away the second they pick up an RPG, Machine Gun and a fallen comrade) Flashpoint, I beleive, does a really good job at depicting what the soldiers are thinking/beleiving anyway. It highlights the fundamental differences between communism and capitalism. Freedom and Occupation. It's all there. It could be better, but because the campaigns are pre-made/determined, to make a particular soldier to be a hero, then thats the way it is. To depict a conflict in a neutral stance, you'd have to simultaneously play both sides..... Or be a news journalist with the BBC.

    The Middle East part 2

For as long as the Israelis use the theory of 'Attack is the best defence', and are allowed to freely use its military against non-military targets, then peace will never be established. An international peacekeeping force, preferably from neutral nations, is required to guard Israeli-Palestinian borders for at least a decade, so as to see that the Israeli government doesn't use its overkill tactics. I'm not saying I support Palesinian terrorism, but the two parties will never ever find a solution if they are left to enforce negotiations themselves. It's a much too complicated matter. As both sides are equally to blame as the other. Why do they pretend they want peace when they continually prevoke each other?

    Ofp moments in gameplay

Both my episodes came from my LAN MP experiences. (I hate 56k ) First. I'm in an A10, buzzing around the southern valley on either Malden or Everon. I think it was Everon, and my mate, was Russian in a Hind... Anyway, we were swooping each other, using the cannon as best as we could, whilist our teammates were fighting it out on the ground. Basically, on our final swoop at one another, I came in a bit too low and only just missed a group of trees. I had to break up right to avoid them, and that was precisely where my mates hind was. BOOM.... We hit head on, right baove where our team mates were fighting each other on the ground. The explosion killed three on the ground and the time of impact was captured in a screenie from one of my mates in the Sniper view. The whole room erupted in laughter. I wish I transferred the pic. It's very amusing. Secondly, anytime you hit a chopper or jet going at full pelt with a Sabot from a Main Battle Tank always generates a big smile.

Bis, flashpoint and ubisoft, what happened?

I found this link, amazingly still functioning. http://www.tacsim.com/sniper/flash_point/index.shtml Please, post your reactions here, I think we're all intrigued.

Bis, flashpoint and ubisoft, what happened?

Check out the 1999 flashpoint site through the BIS Fun Page, and about half way down the bottom of the page it says So this add's another twist in the publication of OFP as we know it. This peice of info, which I overlooked, means that indeed, as Shadow and placebo mentioned, that OFP had a publisher before Codemasters, (Ubi-Soft) and that before this, BIS had another deal in the line up. It seems it's been a miracle that OFP was ever released, let alone when and where! Thus we should all think about just how hard the team at BIS worked to get this game off the ground. I mean, come on, imagine how much bull$#!t they would have gone through. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Russian nuclear submarine sinks

Not quite sure how you'd tow a sub underwater , add to that its been decommisioned for over a decade, I'd doubt it's seaworthiness any way. Lets hope some good news can come out of this mishap, and that the Russian Navy learn from the incident.

Oh my, terrible news. Yet another blemish in the russian navy's history. Here's hoping to the wellbeing of the survivors and families of the deceased.

Bis, flashpoint and ubisoft, what happened?

But, Op Flash isn't/wasn't just a FPS. It is a combat/battlefield simulator, that involved most of the aspects of military operations. If anything it's a realistic FPS, where it doesn't take a hundred rounds to take down just one guy, and where other factors effect the effectiveness of force, I.E., weather the weapon is silenced or not. Realism could have been a major drawcard for more sales had codemasters wished it, and I know I bought the game on it's merits, not on advertising, or it's arcadiness. Anyway, that doesn't really matter, for we are proof of the successfulness of the game. Hanging around forums waiting for news . But what was the reason the publisher changed, even though it was probably for the good of the game. Was BIS unhappy, or did they get screwed over? Or a combination? None the less, we, the consumers were obviously happy with the change, but I'd still like to know why, if it's possible to comment on.

Now we get our cars chipped  :/

Hmm... I doubt that you two live in a country where open roads of nothingness and good driving weather is common. What kills people the most on our roads are drugs, drowsiness and lack of skill. In my state, people are able to get there probationary licences at 16 and a half. I concede that this is very low, and the fact that it is very low has contributed to many unnecessary deaths. More often than not, it is there inability to drive to the conditions that results in accidents, and indirectly speed. Age isn't the greatest problem. The licensing system is. Basically, you could be a complete Unco, and still have a license to drive any car you like The problem is, they speed at the wrong times, like in fog, in urban areas, in the wet, in cars that are barely roadworthy. What is of more concern, is that they often speed to impress their freinds. Too many of my freinds have had accidents in this manner. They sped at the wrong time, spun and wrecked the car, though thankfully so far no-one has been injured. Speed can be a contributing factor to accidents, but police and governments should look deeper into the issue. It's inattention and inexperience that's causing accidents. This is why I loathe Speed Cameras, and why I will loathe GPS tracking systems on cars. It's anoher way for the govenment to get more money outta the public, whilist claiming it's for road safety. Speeding is safe, given the right conditions, proper equiptment and proper driver training is available. Unfortunatly, alot of people listen to the government, and drive only with there eyes on the speedometer, and not on the road

And while we're there, buy M5's, 911 turbo's, AMG's and Audi RS4's. Oooooo, would't that be fun. *Note to self: when in Europe, go to Germany and hire the fastest, meanest, most powerful car the rental place has got, and take it off the clock * Oooo, what i'd do to have an autobahn!

Now we get our cars chipped  :/

As long as they don't connect those chips to GPS systems to determine how much I'm speeding on a given road, and automatically give me a fine, thats fine by me. *gets in a shitty mood about the future of traffic law enforcement and the current draconian speed limits and enforcements

    Behind the scenes...

He he, that was very sly BIS. I found the pic with the breicase in less than 30sec, but it took me another 15 mins to realise I had to actually click on the Breifcase itself. A hint to those without a clue. Right click on the picture to know where to click for the breifcase. Hope that isn't too much. You guys are the bomb.

    C-27j

Sorry for infuriating you, all those facts were off the top of my head in reference to the C-27A, not the Alenia G-222. I think you mis-understood me when I said america was the only customer for the C-27A, for it was, only the American manufactured planes were C-27A's, most of them were indeed Alenia G-222's, and all the reference's I made were only for the C-27A. G-222's are still in service with around 9 countries, and only the americans have retired them, and it was only the american planes I was in reference too. Once again, I aplogise, for my knowledge on this wonderful plane is a little rusty. The last time I saw them in the news was in 1999, and sould have sharpened up a little before posting. Let's not try to bug a Mod about making this, for it may never see the light of day if we do that. But rather an independant quality addon maker.

    How not to use lav's

I remember reading a couple of years ago when the NZ government decided to disband it's A4 squadrons and, even as an Australian, was rather pissed off at the decision. Not so much as to that they scrapped the A4, as it was an outdated weopons system anyway, but the fact that the government scrapped the only fighter capability that the NZ defence force had, and did not replace it with anything which could provide at least symbolic resistance in the area of Air Defense, or for that matter, ground attack. Even though the likelihood of an all out war in the pacific region is unlikely, a state of combat readiness should be maintained by every country, just in case. Just think about a possible, (but highly unlikely) war that results in a lightning invasion of NZ from a rougue force, (Indonesia for example, as it's government is highly dependant on military support) A coup takes place in Jakarta, and immidiatly takes offensive actions against surrounding western nations. If this were to happen now, its forces would be concentrated on NZ, given that it would have no aircraft capable of carrying even short range AAM. Now, because NZ no longer has any form of fighter support, it leaves an awful lot of vulnerability to the rest of it's armed forces, and in the event of war, it is highly likely that that void would have to be filled via allied support. I.E., RAAF F-18's and/or, US Navy carrier based aircraft. The biggest problem being that these assets would be 1), to late for the defence of new zealand, 2) RAAF squadrons would prioritise Australian airspace and 3) any US support would be two days out of steaming range at least. This is a vulnerability that is simply unacceptable, not just for New Zealand, but for the entire pacific region. At the very least, a memorandum of understanding should be made between Australia and New Zealand that because of New Zealand's lack of willingness to maintain combat aircraft, that why should other nations be required to fill that void by sticking their necks out. It's a complcated issue, of which I would happily start a new thread on, if anyone was willing to debate the issue.

    Completed resistance

I did the mission the same way and did it first time round on veteran. Didn't even get hit by the SpetzNatz that hunted Gavsovski down at the begining. After I destroyed the Su-25's, I got into the UAZ and started driving away, only to end the mission with 'that' Cut scene. I think BIS should have allowed for Viktors escaping in the UAZ, because as far as I was concerned, I was away Scott-Free from the Russians. Oh well, good games must end somewhere, even if the ending is not great!!

    C-27j

You are partly correct in your assumption, as the C-27 did/does get alot of it's genes from the C-130. The C-27 is not actually a new aircraft, but it is rare. I think only the US military used them in limited numbers, at least in the C-27A variant, and that no other nations purchased the aircraft. This aircraft design is actually as old as the C-130 is, and few were built, for the americans did not recognise a great need for a little brother to the C-130. The US C-27A's were retired not that long ago, as they were mainly used for transport at South and Central American outposts, like the Panama Canal. The new J variant, is actually a joint project between some NATO countries, and is one of the few developments on the C-27 design. Utilising basically a shorter C-130 fuselage, shorter C-130 wing, and only two C-130 engines. I know Italy wants them and that Australia has assesed it as a replacement for the caribou, but probably won't get it due to a budget blowout. This would be a great addon for Flashpoint, as it fills that niche gap of STOL Tactical Transports that the game is lacking. After all, how many C-17's would actually be able to land and be adequatley accomodated on the smallish flashpoint airfields?!

    Bas ah-1w source code release

BAS, without doubt, you lot of guys are the backbone of the ofp community. Everything you do is for the benefit or enjoyment of the community, and your willingness to share your hard work is a testament to your selfless nature. I am a little disappointed that youse weren't able to finish the project yourselves, but if you guys are willing to let others complete the project, then who am I to critcize. After all, you guys are the best at what you do. As I said, love your work, and am very thankful for it, and so should every other member of the community. Thanks BAS
  22. I agree with both deathguy and hellek. However, seeing as the op flash community has well and truly established itself, I beleive BIS should take into account what the community reccomends, which is pretty much what it has done all along. I was never really bothered by the bugs the game had, as it offered freedoms that other games simply just didn't have. We all have to admit, Op flash blew our minds with everything about it, the campaigns, ai, scripting, mission editor, addon freindly engine, all the stuff that made this game have such a strong following. No matter what BIS does with OFP2, we can only expect that they will blow our minds yet again.

F-111 beta 2 is ready to go!

Okay Sakaircro, after a week or so of enjoying the pig, I suppose you might be looking for user feedback on the plane. The only thing I would change, is for the sweep wing versions. That is, before the paveways should be able to be released, the bomb bay doors should be required to be open. I also hope that the Ejection Module can be ejected from the plane, as you said you were working on. Hopefully this becomes feasible in the near future. This would defitely make it a standout from the rest of the crowd. The exterior textures are fantastic, nothing needs to be done. The cockpit, as we all know, is still very Beta, and someting akin to this would be nice Anyone else with feedback?

    Should warfare be more civilized?

After much thought, i have come to the conclusion that in any war, it can only be, at its greatest "civility" be civilised for only one side. And that's at it's greatest "civility" when the push of buttons by one side create BIG EXPLOSIONS in the other side's territory. The war would then likely become uncivilized in the country that pushed the button, due to the retalitory response form the international community. Put short. The only civilised war would end up in the complete, instantaneous destruction of the enemy, for which no retaliation from any outside forces is possible. People, this was the Cold War. The hope that the instantanous destruction of the opposition would ensure that no response was possible. As Barbara Bush said, "War is not nice", and to that I add. "And it never will be"
