Hey all, Really enjoying the Arma 3 beta for a while now but I recently noticed that sometimes my texture quality is automatically set from very high back to high. I guess this has something to do with my videocard (Asus GTX560ti DCII) only having 1GB of memory which Arma 3 deems too little. The thing is, everything is running great even with texture quality set to very high. My question is the following: is there anyway to prevent Arma 3 from automatically lowering the texture quality? Can I somehow force the game to always use a specific (in my case very high) texture setting? Thanks in advance!

Texture quality automatically lowered?
novatekk replied to novatekk's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks for the suggestion. Sampling is already at 100%...so I'll try turning off AA and see if that helps. I guess there really is no way to force very high quality textures then? -
Every time I boot up the game and play a session, at first the game runs really sluggish. I first have to alt-tab to windows and back to the game before everything runs smooth again. Fortunately I only have to do this once...after that I can go back and forth between editor and in-game without any problems. Another thing I noticed is that when I die and restart it loads for about 6 seconds or so but when I alt-tab to windows (right after I press restart, only takes about 1 sec) i'm back in-game already. I have never experienced anything like this in any other game I played before. Does anyone else encounter these problems? Perhaps it has something to do with Steam? Any help is appreciated! Yep I too found that alt-tabbing speeds up loading times a lot. I also noticed that everytime I click preview for the first time after I booted up the game, it runs very sluggish and I need to alt-tab in order assure smooth gameplay. After that I can go back and forth between the editor and preview without any performance loss. Weird...

Question about the WavToSSS tool
novatekk posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : BI TOOLS - TROUBLESHOOTING
EDIT: Doh! Nevermind...found out that most of the sounds are inside weapons.pbo and not sounds.pbo including the soundfiles I was looking for. This thread can be closed. Sorry! Hi all, I'm creating some custom sounds for ArmA 2 with the help of the WavToSSS tool. When I use the tool it warns me that my sound files are not 16bit mono however almost all of them work in game. Almost all...because for some strange reason only the sounds of the RPK machine gun and the GP25 grenade launcher stay the same no matter what I try. It's weird because when I preview the .wss files I can clearly hear my own custom sound yet when I pack the sounds.pbo using these new soundfiles the old original sounds still remain in-game. If it is due to the fact that the samples are not 16bit mono then I would guess that none of my own sounds should work which isn't the case. Does anybody have any idea why this happens? I'm using PBOView to pack/unpack the pbo's. Any help is greatly appreciated! -
Hey all, I have a question about the triggers in ArmA 2. I am making this mission where you have like this shooting range (basicly a stance with a small trigger around it) from where you need to eliminate all targets inside a certain area in order to obtain a weapon (kinda like an award). Now to actually give a certain player the weapon after he succeed in the shooting range, I use a trigger which uses the AddWeapon command. The thing is that I would like to give the player and only the player who is standing inside the trigger the weapon. Right now I have the commands: P1 addMagazine "10Rnd_9x39_SP5_VSS"; P1 addWeapon "VSS_vintorez" in the trigger but obviously this adds the weapon to player P1 eventhough some other player might have activated the trigger. I am creating a coop mission so there might be more than one player playing the mission. My question is: Is there a way to basicly say someting like: give weapon X only to whoever is standing inside the area of trigger Y? Thanks in advance

Change unit from friendly to enemy
novatekk replied to Jonnerz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
You could place a "move" waypoint on one of the guards and set behaviour to "careless" and the attack mode to "never fire" or something like that. Now make the second waypoint something like "search and destroy" with behaviours set to "attack" and "open fire - engage at will". Finally put a small trigger around the guards which activates when the jeep reaches it and sync it with the first waypoint of the quards. -

I assume that needs to go into a script? Because the game tells me that I cannot put a local variable in global space. -
Performance woes - 1920x1200 with 9600GT

To Spokesperson: Giving your specs might actually help when discussing something like performance, also, a monitor is not just capable of displaying one resolution. -

novatekk replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, for me, 1680x1050 @ 87% fillrate looked and performed far and far worse than 1280x960 @ 100% fillrate. But like you said, you really love the high resolutions so I guess that is a no-go ;) I do agree about the fact that with A2 just like in A1, it is really hard to put your finger on the problem. With A1, I had days where everything seemed to run ok and the next day, same settings, all felt sluggish. Let's hope that in the future they will replace the fillrate option with some proper AA, in the mean time good luck with your problem :( -

Hey Helmut, For me the real bottleneck were the level of object detail and unfortunately the high screen resolution, I assume you really want to hold on to. Because I don't really want to have vehicles that are more than 20meters away to look like bricks, I wanted to keep the object detail on High or above. Just like you did, I tried every possible combination but found out that turning my resolution to 1280x960 gave me the best results. I know this sounds like a low resolution but this allowed me to put everything on Very High except detail settings which is on High, the viewing distance on 3000m and fillrate on 100% and still get between 40 to 50 frames in dense areas and 60+ in small villages and fields. Because of the smooth gameplay and high settings I really don't mind the "low resolution" anymore. In fact it looks better than having 1920x1200 with mediocre settings or even a fillrate below 100%. If there is any chance of lowering your resolution I would really recommend it, especially with the card you have now. EDIT: Okay, I just read in another topic that you have a 27" monitor so I guess the 1280x960 thing is not really going to work out for you, still my advice would be to lower your screen resolution to say 1680x1050 (or something like that) at least to see if that really makes all the difference. All you had to do was right-mouse click on it and "save target as". I strongly suggest you to check it out though because I got this feeling we're talking about two different things here.

I guess there goes your house then Michael. Honestly I don't have a clue what you're talking about with your bullettime gibberish. Anyway to you and all others that still believe in that "you won't notice anything beyond 24fps" crap, go download this program and see for yourself ok? Did it never occur to you that there is a difference between cinema, tv and video games? I can't believe how ignorant some people in this world are. Oh and Kode I was never talking about 260 fps, just stating that the human eye can see the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps. Just download the program ( it's only 10kb ) and find out for yourself. Can't argue with the truth now can we...?

Why would you spread false information man? Do some research before you state ridiculous things like that or go read one of the hundreds of articles on the internet that cover this misconception and you might learn a thing or two.
-
Oh come on man. Are you seriously saying that you're playing ArmA on 1600x1200 with everything maxed out and a viewing distance of 4000 with an average of 30-40 fps? What are your system specs? You must be either playing on that desert island all day or have some Quadcore setup with a pair of 8800 GTX's. As for the new drivers. I did notice some improvements but the game is still dropping to unplayable frames whenever theres too much vegetation around. E6600 - 2GB DDR2 - XFX 8800 GTS/580 XXX

Hehe naah you're not blind, it's way back on page 74. I know it's old and all but I just had to give him credits for such a shot.

Thanks to all involved in bringing this beauty to OFP! Definitely the best and most gorgeous chopper released so far! I almost can't believe this is the same game I bought so many years ago! The only thing that imho could have been left out to make it even better are the rocket firing animations. I guess it's just a matter of taste but to me they look kinda messed up and low res compared to the chopper itself. Nevertheless an excellent addon. Well done!

Latest Hell's Circus island releases.
novatekk replied to -HC-Para's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Congrats Para! Kolgujev 2010 is definitly the best island for OFP i've ever seen. Love everything about it, especially the airfield! Great use of BergHoff's nature pack. I'm off exploring it some more. Excellent work! -
July 2001. Like someone said before the demo was amazing...probably the best demo ever. Still remember the first time that I walked around on Everon...kept walking for hours in the hope of finding a car somewhere. Still play it at least once a week just messing around in the editor.

Yep this is top class. It looks great, sounds great, has some very neat effects and when you wreck it there's bits and pieces everywhere Almost forgot about the cockpit...damn that looks mighty fine Excellent stuff.

OMG! Everything Spetsnaz mod is working on looks incredible and this one is no exception! Seriously...the Luna-M looks spectacular! Same goes for the Shilka and basicly everything else you guys put your hands on! I saw this island made by Stacker on the Spetsnaz forum the other day and man did it rock Keep up the awesome work guys!

Hi there Aeon, Now here is an addon OFP needed! The sounds are high quality and for me they just add that little extra realism to OFP. Especially the sea, meadow and hill sounds are great! Only the rain sounds a bit like if you were in a bathroom but nevertheless I would recommend this pack to everyone! Excellent work mate!
