White "fog" even with high viewdistance (8800GTX)
madmossy replied to snake22000's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
afaik this is a driver related problem, not arma, the same thing happens in other games on the 8800's. -
Got mine via the morphicon torrent, came down at a blazing 800k/s patching now

P4 is a huge bottleneck for the 8800 series, even a c2d 6300 at stock speed doesnt provide enough grunt to really push an 8800 to its limits. If your really after something to utilize your 8800 to the fullest you need to aim for something along the lines of the c2d 6600+ and overclock the crap out of it.

Trouble with first main mission
madmossy replied to Trip Hazzard's topic in ARMA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Actually ran into that same problem myself, number 9 was stuck in the tent, ran upto him, shot him then continued on to the 4x4 and drove off to the next way point as normal. Seems there is a bug in the path finding for that unit. -
tried that numerous times could never get it working.

Im actually getting more and more interested in this idea as time goes by, im still not 100% convinced but getting there, one thing though i have the chance of getting a trackir 3 with extra's for 40 quid would it be worthwhile getting that or just pay the extra 30 for quid trackir4 ?

silly question, but i notice you went from an old agp card to a new graphics card, when you installed the new hardware did you connect the pci-x/molex power supply to the graphics card ? its a small 6/4 pin connecter that connects onto the graphics card at the far edge (opposite side of the metal case bit). The symptoms you explain can be put down to insufficient power on the card (ie works for 2d operations but falls over and dies in 3d).

Been using Geil for 5-6 years never had problems with it, both my flat m8s use it also, no problems at all. Windows doesnt report memory correctly anyway it rounds things down ie instead of correctly reporting 1Gb as 1024Mb it reports it as 1000Mb. As for the issue your having with memory only being reported as 2046 instead of 2048 im not 100% sure on that, is the memory overclocked ? if it is set back to the default speed and see how that goes for you. While memtest95 is an excellent tool to determine if ram is faulty, it might report error's even if your system is perfectly stable. I know for me I get errors in memtest and cant complete prime95 without errors but my system is perfectly stable often left on for days/weeks at a time without issue. All I'd say is down clock the memory if its overclocked, try one dimm only, swap them out to determine which is fault if there is a faulty one at all. If you get no problems with either DIMM then it could be something else like motherboard drivers or worse case a faulty motherboard. Depending on your motherboard, you might wanna double check the manual and read up on any forums you can find as some boards are unstable when the memory is in different RAM slots, like the DFI Ultra-D is more stable when ram is the orange slots compaired to the yellow ones.

Stick with windows XP atleast until Feb'07 as current driver support for nvidia and ati graphics cards is very poor under windows vista. Once vista is released at the end of january we should start to see better drivers that improve performance instead of hinder it as it is currently.

If I were you i'd stop trying, IF you do manage to get it working you'll be horribly mortified by the incredibly poor frame rates graphical detail. Your better off sticking it on a decent desktop machine with a geforce 7 series or ATi x1900 series graphics card to get the game playing like its meant to be played. Geforce 7 series or ATi x1900 series cards arent expensive you can pick up the NVidia 7900GS for around 130 quid or the ATi 1950 Pro for 130 quid, there are of course higher end models that range in price all the way upto 450 quid but thats for people with deep pockets.

If I recall correctly, the rudder controls are linked to the banking controls by detault in ArmA. If you go into the options and re-map the rudder controls to not be linked to bank, then this problem should go away Which controls exactly ? still not use to helo terminology :P Thats what it looks like currently.

Im no expert at helo flying but I seem to have a little problem when it comes to rotating the helo. When i hover, i use the rudder (X+C on keyboard) but the helo seems to bank left/right rather than rotate. Is there some trick to this or is just a flight model thing ?

Amazing pilot skills m8, what controls are you using ? keyboard+mouse or joystick
