    [SP] Shot Down

This reminds me of Operation Lojack, one of my favorite missions, for Operation Flashpoint. I like these missions where it's just you, your squad, and random encounters.

    Dynamic War

Just a quick question: Me and my boys went on a patrol mission and we borrowed one of the blackhawks for fun. It was enjoyable to mow down those enemy squads with miniguns. My chopper only has 500 bullets left, where do I go to get rearmed?

    Dynamic War

I've tried mucking around with ECS, ECS_core.pbo, the ecs pbos for voices, etc. I want to be able to hear my guys calling out enemy locations because it makes it easier for me to know what's going on and I like to play with subtitles off. I can get the guys to call out after editing the ECS junk, but if I resume or load a mission like that I get the same error message saying I can't play the map because the voices/quiet pbo is just soooo important. Any recommendations? EDIT: Okay, I found some other guy's edited core pbo and I'm going to give it a shot, if it don't work I'm gonna be right back here. EDIT 2: Okay, I got it to work, but I only get patorl missions as my first mission. I go to area, smoke the enemies, and now I can't end the mission. EDIT 3: I drove all my guys to base to find the commander won't end it. So I drove all the way to the marker and my job was done. Now I'm on the fourth mission.

    ECP 1.085 Released!

Chasing after the wrong targets, fearing for your lives and hiding, crawling towards a known armoured position rather than running upright towards it, knowing that every time you get spotted that information is passed the entire enemy force, panicking and running away. Hmmm sounds like a real battle doesn't it? Nothing is broken, only that plans of attack can become easily broken, as in a real battle. Stop and think of how many friendly casualties occurred in the Gulf War, yes? I think unpredictability is the very nature of war. Remember, AI skill settings are truly revealed when it comes to ECP, seasoned skilled AI troops react a hell of a lot differently when faced with a barrage of info about tangos to the way low skilled AI react. They are seeing and hearing a hell of a lot more than they usually do and they have their own live wire intel reports between groups. How are you just going to sit there and justify this broken gameplay? Sitting around for 20 minutes ( !!! ) waiting for my squad to advance 100 yards, even though there is no incoming fire is NOT FUN!!!

    ECP 1.085 Released!

Maybe it's mentioned before, but is there anyway to prevent ECP from breaking the AI? I'm trying to play the first campaign mission and the whole group seems to be scared to venture out, or ever 10 minutes or so of seeing if its safe, they decide to chase some lone Russian soldier all the way out in the woods! We've got a village to seize guys! See, running after that lone soldier is what they WANT you to do, just so they can run in and fortify the village. Edit: Okay, I see there it has been addressed, I hope there is an easy fix or else this is completely worthless to me. Got lots of nice flashy bells an whistles though.

    The humble mission maker's ego

For a more on topic, but succint post, I'd like to bring up King6's Swordfish trilogy. Honestly, I think these are good missions, but would be superb if all the little bugs and hiccups were ironed out and the missions were optimized. For instance, in Swordfish I, the insertion flight hangs up almost everytime for me. One way I found to fix this was to delete the two accompanying Apaches. Also a more direct flight path for the Blackhawk would also help things out. Instead of it flying first towards the aircraft carriers way out in the sea, I have made it fly a little bit off shore, then continue on its original path. And if the insertion chopper would wait for my squad to disembark, rather than just throwing me out and relying on me to manually eject my squad it would be improved further. The helo insertion in Swordfish III is a good example of how it should be done. Also the PBR ride should be cut down, if not being cut entirely with the squad beginning on shore. And maybe the mission maker can't help it, but it's almost impossible for me to capture the sectorcheif in Swordfish I, my squad kills him after he joins my squad, forcing me to do my best to micromanage the troops with the clunky AI interface all while working against time trying to get the hell out of there before reinforcements arrive. Upon reaching the extraction point, I find that the Blackhawk is waiting for me before I even call it, in fact, I can hear it flying in one place for the entire duration of the map. I'm not sure how to fix this (I'm just barely beginning to understand how a mission is made). Now for Swordfish II. I have never completed this mission. For some reason, I suspect because of the base at FARP X-Ray and units waiting for my signal for the raid. If this could somehow be made to create the units only upon my signal, I think it might enhance the performance of the mission. Otherwise, it looks like it would be a phenomenal mission to play. For Swordfish I and II, I find it is much better to use HYK Soldiers or MAP Soldiers, although those weren't around back when the missions were made. (That damn invisible CAR15 makes it a pain to give my squad NVGs or binoculars.) More opinions on these missions and other missions to follow.

    The humble mission maker's ego

Here's an email I sent to toadlife a month or two ago, which didn't get a response, maybe he didn't see it: The last paragraph really isn't an issue anymore. I dont know why, but when I first started playing the mission in ECP my squad would often be killed during insertion, or the enemy squad near the radio would survive and I'd land right on top of them and be killed before I can have a chance to figure out which direction I'm facing or where the enemies were. I play the mission in WGL and FDF and it works fine. Operation LoJack 2 is the mission I came to realizing just how damn fun it is to command a squad, previously I was more partial to taking orders. I also like to edit the mission for my enjoyment too, usually taking place at dusk or night, with HYK/ZIR WGL soldiers. Walking through the dark or near dark, not seeing much of anything, then hearing some machine gun fire start up and it's on. Once again, a very impressive mission. This is a good thread. I'll be back with more appreciation soon. I don't know if any of the mission makers I'd like to thank will see it, but at the least maybe some people here will find out about good missions they haven't played yet.

    What settings

I use these settings for playing OFP. I forgot who originally posted them on this board. What do you think? Resolution is kept at 1024x768 and view distance is 1000. AMD Athlon 2400 (1.9 GHz) 512 RAM Radeon 9500 Pro I usually play with AA at 4 and AF at 8.

    Finnish defence forces mod 1.2

Just like to say that I'm on a 56k and I downloaded the full 300mb over the course of two days just because I heard it was so bad ass. I was very impressed, especially with the campaign. It is the first campaign I have ever played through. I very much liked how the squads weren't completely on their own for the most part, receiving back up when needed. I think my favorite mission was Bottleneck. I hope a continuation is in the works.

    That would be appreciated.

    Request: search and rescue missions.

Hmm, clarification, I am looking primarily for infantry missions. I will check out ChopperLifter and see if it's up my alley.(But I'm a crappy pilot...really crappy). Thanks.

    Wargames addpak 4.0 released

    It's a messaging program. www.icq.com
  14. I'm looking for some good SAR missions. Ideally, missions with plenty of patrols (preferably randomly generated) that require me to scout a large area of the island to find and rescue someone or a group of people (again, location preferably random). So far I have "Operation LoJack 2" and the PMC Ranger Path mission "Pilots". If you know of any SAR missions give the name, a little mini-review if you'd like, and hopefully a location to download it. Thank you advance.
