So, you have to keep looking at the screen, but your head is turning from side to side, albeit not much.... Isn't it difficult to keep your head still? I move my head around a lot already! I think I'd rather have wraparound monitors -- well, what I'd probably really rather have is those VR goggles we've been expecting for, what, 15 years now? Where's my flying jet car? LOL.

Like I said, I wanted to try ArmA since reinstalling Windows. I did. It won't run now. Windows throws an error dialog a second or two after I start it, saying "...failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found." Maybe it did that before, and I [probably would have tried to] fix it by installing DirectX again from the MS website. Since this WinXP system isn't allowed on the net yet, that's as far as I got.

Hi, MoonCaine here. I haven't tried ArmA since the night M9ACE described, but I just downloaded the ArmA demo again a few days ago and will try again soon. In short, here's my experience: Installed Windows, secured it, and booted Windows on my MacBook Pro. M9 had the specs right. The graphics in this MBP are handled by an ATI Radeon x16000 with 256MB RAM. The MBP had 1GB of RAM then; now it's got 2GB but I haven't fired up ArmA on it [yet, see below]..... I got into some online missions with M9, and spent most of my time messing with graphics settings, trying to improve performance.Seemed a bit too choppy [low FPS?] to play. Felt like my soldier was moving underwater, kinda slow and clumsy. Things looked good, but game play was sluggish . On another day, my machine was attacked, and I pulled the plug on the entire Windows installation by booting to OSX and deleting the Win partition. I have since reinstalled Windows, and I've run it so far via Parallels, but I haven't booted to Windows again since.

If I needed any of that stuff, I might buy one in the future, when I don't have to settle for a long-term contract. I use the GoPhone. Since I hardly use phones, it works out more cheaply for me.

I use a Mac because that's what my office provides. It rocks for graphics, video and audio work. Rock-solid stable. Don't miss Windoze at all. But when it comes time to run Armed Assault, I'll boot this MacBook Pro into Windows XP or Vista -- no emulation -- unless someone comes up with a better way. Wouldn't want emulation layers to slow down the slaughter. I just hope ArmA will run on it, since I won't have the option to change any hardware on it -- it's not my laptop.

Aha, this might be part of my prob [although the "missing" RMFI file remains unsolved. I tried the mission in my [username]/Missions folder first.
-
t80, how did you fix your problem? I am now getting the same error message, I think: I had already downloaded RHS Weapons pack, but I re-downloaded it again just in case I got an old version. All RHS addons are in the Res/Addons folder, including both the RFMI pbo files. No go. Next, I moved these files to the regular addons folder, since the readme didn't explicitly say they belonged in the Res folder: ... but OFP still throws the same RFMI error. I even tried moving the RFMI pbos into the regular Addons folder. No go. I also don't see the mission, although I have now moved it to the regular Addons folder. What text should I see in the list of missions in the book, in-game? Maybe it's there and I don't recognize the name?
-
Hmm, OFP won't start, and tells me: Whoops, it'll start, but it throws that error first.
-
It's been so long since I downloaded a mission that I don't know where to put this. Where should I put it so I can play it single-player? I'm gonna take a guess and put it in the Users folder, under my username, in "Missons".

RHS Releases: T80 MBT Pack v.1
mooncaine replied to soul_assassin's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
trust me its a big difference in download, without it the rar would be around 25 mb which makes alot of difference for ppl with 56kb and for people who pay for traffic. The uncompression in OFP is so unnoticeable it barely matters. Since you mention people who pay for download traffic, it'd be helpful if the readme were updated to show that the tank pack already includes the MISC pbo file. Like a good OFP addon user, I went to the readme first, and it said I needed the MISC addon, among others, so I began to find and download them. I didn't realize until I had already downloaded the MISC file separately that it was an older version. I'm lucky, because I don't have to pay for the amount of data I download, but others might also download a MISC file they don't need. -
Armed Assault - should the name be changed?
mooncaine replied to theavonlady's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Once I saw it, I thought OFP Elite would be a great name for the new game. Then I remembered the reason we're having this discussion is because BIS can't use the OFP name w/o CodeMaster's permission. I saw some great names, but I'd like the game to have a name that doesn't tie it to a certain time period, like having "Cold War" in the name would, because the game becomes so much more than any given time period, once the addons community goes to work on it. Badly stated, but you know what I mean. -

NEW Interview with Bohemia Interactive on ArmA...
mooncaine replied to XeLSiS's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
"I mean if you playing a killing game shoulden't you be mature enough to let it go?" OTOH, if you're a guest on someone's server and they ask you not to curse, shouldn't you just be mature enough to respect your host's wishes? I do. Real excited about the next OFP. Gaming hasn't been fun for over a year now. Hate Joint Ops now, tried a few others [trust me, don't try Star Wars Battlefront unless you want an arcade game], but this has been the best one by far. -
THE LOST BROTHERS ADDONPACK #2 RELEASED
mooncaine replied to miles teg's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Glad you think so; I agree. You rock! Thanks for even thinking of those issues. I hope to see my clan playing with these addons soon, and hope to see some missions. I'm moving, so I've seen my last OFP screen for a week or two now, but you folks at Lost Brothers have given me something great to look forward to when I get back online. -
THE LOST BROTHERS ADDONPACK #2 RELEASED
mooncaine replied to miles teg's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I tried re-downloading and re-installing those two addon packs, but, as I feared, the result is the same. Any other ideas? [edited later] Hmm, I just restored all my addons to their original places, and then put all the LoBo addons in the regular addons folder. So far, so good. I was able to put Bullet Sponge on the Desert Island map and also an Egyptian BMP. Coolness! I wonder which of those addons was needed? JAM? Anyway, so far, so good. Thanks, Calm. -
THE LOST BROTHERS ADDONPACK #2 RELEASED
mooncaine replied to miles teg's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
BTW, I didn't know where to get the Addon Pack 1, but a web search turned it up here: ftp://www.gamezone.cz/ofpd/unofaddons2/LoBoAddonPack1.rar Could it perhaps be the wrong file? Where should I go to find it, if not there? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. -
THE LOST BROTHERS ADDONPACK #2 RELEASED
mooncaine replied to miles teg's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks for your quick response, Calm. I thought the readme might be mistaken, and your reply tends to confirm this: you mention an "airammo", not mentioned in the readme, and I checked: LoBo_airammo.pbo is present. I will try re-downloading them again, although I doubt it will make a difference, since they come to me as RAR files, which extract without reporting any errors -- I'd think that if a file were corrupted, it would fail to extract at all. I'll try it, though. -
THE LOST BROTHERS ADDONPACK #2 RELEASED
mooncaine replied to miles teg's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This is exciting to see -- congratulations to the Lost Brothers mod team. I'm sorry to say it's not working for me, and I'm trying to debug it and find out why. I think I might be missing an important addon. Here's what happens to me: I start OFP with the LoBo addons in a mod folder using this shortcut: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" -mod=LoBo;hisky -nosplash -nomap When I start OFP, I see, on the very first, black screen [i start with -nosplash], up in the top right corner: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">'0.0|#.1': Error Unknown operator When I try to put an Israeli Armour or infantry unit on the Desert Island map [i've tried several, including Israeli Riflemen and Merkava Mk2 and Merkava4], the mission won't start, and kicks me back to the Mission Editor with a dialog box that says: No entry '.modelSpecial'. Do these clues help to find why it won't work for me? I tried removing every addon I have, in the normal Addons and the Res addons folders, except for the files that I think are supposed to come with OFP and OFP:R, but I left the the ags*.pbo files and editorupdate102.pbo .... no dice. Before I removed all those addons, though, I was able to start a Desert Island map with the Israeli Air Sikorsky chopper [i forget the exact name, but think it's CH53 or something similar]. Now not even that one will start. I thought it might be because I didn't also download a pack of Egyptian infantry, which the readmes say is required for several addons in the packs ... but I see a PBO in the pack with Egypt in the name, and I also find no links on the web for downloading the Egyption infantry separately. Finally, and this may mean nothing, LoBoAirPack1_0ReadMe.txt says: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> ***All of these addons requires the LoBo infantry pbo's, the LoBoWeapons.pbo and the LoBoAirWeapons.pbo to work.*** In neither the Addon Pack 1 nor 2 do I find a LoBoAirWeapons.pbo ... is it really supposed to be there? -
Because of Windows problems, I reinstalled Windows 2000 on my PC. After reinstalling OFP [3 #$%&! times], I still am unable to host a game. On the list-of-servers screen, if I click "New", I see the screen go black except for the words "Creating client" .... but the little back-and-forth animation beneath those words doesn't move, the PC waits a few seconds, then drops me back into the list-of-servers screen. Please, please offer some useful troubleshooting strategies so that I can get back my ability to host MP games [something besides reinstalling, which does not solve this]. If there are files I should remove from MPMissions, for example, or files that should definitely be there ... or registry keys to check. Anything but another few hours of reinstalling and repatching OFP, please, I'm begging for help here.

Thanks; I tried setting ZA to restrict OFP to those ports, and that prevented OFP from seeing any servers at all, so I set it back to the default [use any ports]. But since Mister Frag mentioned DirectPlay, and the tests I was able to carry out showed no probs with DirectPlay, I tried creating a server with DirectPlay, and it worked! So I'm most of the way there ... I was able to play a SP game of CTI, which was great. Thanks!

Oh, I probably should have mentioned, when you brought up ZoneAlarm, that I reinstalled OFP after doing a complete reinstall of Windows, including all programs that needed reinstallation, such as ZoneAlarm, OFP, Photoshop, ICQ, TeamSpeak ... almost every Windows program I use needed to be reinstalled, but I was ready for that.
-
Thanks, Avon and Mister Frag. A teammate helped me by pointing out, basically, what your responses both suggest: that merely replacing my Addons and User\myname folders wouldn't be enough, since some addon installers like BAS* or WGL* needed to make more changes than simply extracting new .pbo files -- so just copying the PBO files wouldn't do. After I re-ran some of the installers for addons that used installers instead of just ZIP or RAR files, this problem went away. Thank you! *This is from memory; I don't recall if BAS or WGL addons were the actual installers that may have been involved. I reinstalled BAS, WG 4.11, WGCTI, MFCTI ... and I think that's all.

I get this cryptic error after reinstalling OFP. Here's how I reinstalled: I renamed my old OFP folder. I got out my original CDs for OFP and OFP-R. I installed each. I patched OFP-R up to 1.96. I copied EVERYTHING from the old OFP folder to the new. Now, in Mission Editor, when I try to put down an East bmp, or any aircraft [so far], I get the following pop-up as OFP fails to launch the mission and returns to the editor: "No entry 'config.bin/CfgMovesMC.vehicleActions'." Suggestions and recommendations welcome Here's a screen shot of just the dialog with the error I should add that I also got this error when trying to join a MP game. I'm pretty much dead in the water because of this one.

What's fraps? :o)

Thanks, Mister Frag. Initial dxdiag tests show no probs [all is marked "OK"], but I can't test the port because I don't know what port #s to test. What's the default port for OFP? I use ZoneAlarm and have just given OFP permission to connect, and act as a server, but nothing special about ports [it's allowed to use any port right now].
