i wonder if it'll work out as nicely. http://www.janes.com/defence/land_forces/news/jdw/jdw020610_1_n.shtml

if it works i'll eventually buy one, what i would really like is the ability to spilt a screen into 3 monitors, that way i can have a middle view and 2 side/periphral views. 2 screens don't cut it.

i don't think the game will ever die, it's the only game occupying a very specific niche at the moment, and there are people that like playing an infantry sim. you can talk about all the other new games but they're all geared to the mass-market, which is very fickle and tends to have a short attention span. what those games offer can be easily copied and implemented, with clone competing against clone. OFP is an original game that has a vast, and i do mean VAST array of methods to change gameplay, methods that are advertised in other games as set features. there is no other game out in the market that comes close to OFP in it's niche, when such a game arrives then you can talk about the possibility of OFP dying, right now there is no competition so this whole thread is redundant.

One is that the scopes are selfmade in O2, which means that their is a little unprecision already in the creation of the scope. Second is the bullets ballistic ( remember: gravity and wind are playing a role in OFP, too! ). Third is the dispersion on longer ranges. Nearly the same with the auto fire mode: dispersion and recoil are making the gun shooting above, beyond or left/right of the actual aiming point! The guns are much more precise when shot in crouch or prone position, believe me  <span id='postcolor'> hhmm, i had tried it with the MSG90 shooting at a big rock from a distance of around 150 metres, the bullet never hit the crosshair, it always hit the same exact spot in the upper right corner. i did notice that the bullets path normalized when the distance was about +400m and hit right on the crosshairs. now i know some people IRL like to calibrate their scopes so they can compensate for the distance (i used to hunt, not army.) but i like my bullets to start off at the point where my scope says they should start off. btw did i laready mention the weapons pack rocks?

my favourite quote this week was Rumsfeld equating Saddam to Hitler and America as england in the 1930's, i'm sure most of you have heard it by now. what he failed to mention was that germany had/still has a manufacturing infrastructure that is the envy of the world, and iraq does not. also he forgot the part about Hitler winning by a minority vote, 33% i believe, and the fact that much of his early foreign policy was in using "prempetive attacks" against 3rd world nations that one day might, possibly, with appropiate deals with lucifer himself, be able to attack Germany and get away with it. (let's not forget how he twisted and used the "fact" that ethinc germans living in those countires were being terrorised, but i'm not touching that issue with a 10-foot pole). it's funny too because he addressed this to a roomfull of soldiers and officers, the people who are most likely to know about history beyond highschool level. it's good Rumsfeld decided to use that particular cheap shot because it makes you think back to that time and compare today's administration, suddenly you begin to see a closer resemblance to hitler and his cadre of men than to any other european country, albeit with a slightly more deft touch, people learn from their mistakes after all even the assholes. i hope the american people are given and exercise their fair and equitable right to vote this particular asshole out of office in 2004 so we can get back to life like it used to be, where we would garner amusement at the expense of the american president's actions, not fear. (admit it, most of you have an uneasy feeling in the pits of your stomach's, bad things are a coming)

True Patriots would want what is best for the country, not simply obey the government. Edit: typos.<span id='postcolor'> patriotism works both ways, once you understand the concept it leads to deeper knowledge of it. you can't use patriotism to advance your agenda, people will get wise. americans are a proud people, prone to radical actions when they think they're getting screwed, they'll explode on anybody who isn't being equitable with them. one might say, but america survived through the vietnam war as a political entity, well it did not, it radically changed people perceptions of politicians from benevolent father figures to slimy weasels. if america is dragged into a war again by it's moronic leaders and the people have the same reaction as before then we'll be seeing a vastly different process, with a greater possibilty of armed insurrections in response to civilians getting shot while expressing their 1st amendment rights. why do you think the american federal government has been trying so desperately to disarm it's citizens in the past few years? it's not because of crime since it always decreases when the population carries weapons, think of switzerland, i believe they're trying to reduce their citizens options.

i think most of our space exploration to date has been useless media stunts. if we (humans) were truly serious about space we would be experimenting on things that would advance our infrastructure out there, such as metallurgy, foundries and the posibillities of unmanned factories, rock crushers etc.. all based in space. until this type of research becomes common place in say, space stations, any talk of space is just a fantasy, ungrounded in reality.

go here http://www.udpsoft.com/eye this is free, it dosen't work with resistance though , but it's way better than "game"spy.

those who don't bother to spend at least a minute reading the readme deserve the many hours of re-formating and re-installation hell that will eventually hit them.

that chopper with the HUGE buzzsaw is one of the craziest things i've ever seen. in a documentary i saw they say that since it operates in close proximity to power lines it need to be grounded after every job. operating that thing would eb a dream come true for me hehe.

that song made me understand ghetto life better than any "gangsta rap bling bling yo'll" song. i finally understood what they meant by "staying alive" when i realized my life felt so empty and vapid and all i was merely acomplishing was indeed "staying alive". it's not a song about dodging bullets, it's a song about the utter boredom of a meaningless life, and although i have never lived there for extended periods of time i do have to say ghetto's are devoid of anything resembling cool. as for the article, well, it's not so farfetched that other politicians are looking at this closely to see if they can perhaps, some day, achieve the buearocratic utopian dream of being able to legislate sunlight. P.S. i was a teenager at the time and you know what freaks they are , so i'm not a borderline suicidal/sociopath ghetto boy, i'm actually just a "normie" white boy with no pretensions of wiggerhood.

this thing must be HUGE!!! at first when i read that it should be capable of recon i imagined it to be a bit smaller than a jeep. then when i read it's suppossed to carry multiple vehicle i decided this was just another concept with confluence of different new technologies to beta test them. oh how i hate when they tease us with stuff like this, it's not going to happen. as for the "exoskeleton", it's just an idea, a brainstorm, as long as a soldier has to interface with it it takes time and concentration away from the battlefield. what's most like going to happen with it is that it's going to come out in pieces, first with a headset providing augmented reality (simplest thing to do in term of mechanichs) then maybe arm or leg modules. i doubt we'll be seeing full-on exoskeletons for a long long time, unless we come up with some extraodinary digitally controlled bio musculature to power them up, hydraulics just won't cut it. *edit* i'll have to say this much more feasable and scary. http://www.wired.com/news/conflict/0,2100,46570,00.html kinda reminds me of that nintendo game, forgot the name, 2 dudes with machineguns, laser guns destroying everything in sight like deranged Mario Bros.

if you can't fly a chopper, don't, killing half your team dosen't ingratiate you with them. if the choppers respawn then crash, them, this isn't nam and we don't think of the chopper pilot as a hero for hotdogging around. go here www.udpsoft.com/eye and download the All Seeing Eye, it will let you find games on the internet. do not say "gogogo" or ask for the whole server to go back for you once you're in, especially if there are more than 6 people playing. the most important thing for your gameplay, learn how to read a map and compass, you'll be lost playing in a server with veteran mode on. *edit, i play OFP and OFP:R with a 450 PIII 256 SDRAM, i get annoyed whiners who complain about having 45 FPS instead of 50 with their 1 gig machines, if i can do it so can you. (oh yeah and i'm pretty successfull in the battlefield, all you need for OFP are brains.) www.udpsoft.com/eye

playing as commander is so satisfying, it gives me the flexibilty to play rambo and crawl to a good position by myself while the rest of the team covers me. when i'm ready to start the action i just tell them to fire and use their noise to cover any destruction i'm on about. plus when i start getting shot at and i identify the enemy the snipers in my team will immediatly engage, sweetness. being a cog under the command of some stupid AI is not very fun, nor is it comforting, although it might be considered more accurate to real life conditions for soldiers.

oh yeah, let's not forget the floods are having no impact whatsoever on how BIS is working. i'm sure they were commuting to work in rafts, just another day at the office preoccupied with fullfilling every whiner's request. /sarcasm wait till it's done or you'll look like another fool who fell out of CS daycare.

in OFP bullets do not penetrate trees, i learnt this when i unloaded from a mounted .50 cal machine gun at an AI and the bullets all got stopped by an effing tree. i got shot of course since AI's understand the matrix and can warp space and time. it happened again yesterday, i had a tank parked near woods, saw an enemy in a clearing unloaded with the coax and all my bullets that hit a tree got stopped. talk about being immensely pissed off, at least i finished him off when the heat round finally loaded.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/26728.html i heard they were working on this a while ago, looks like it's finally close to finished. i wonder if it'll work for choppers also.

hhhmm, i would say the sanest nation might be the netherlands, they're very advanced when it comes to social ideas and ethics, at least there is none to compare amongst the other countries.

Full disclosure: sick of blue screens? get a mac!
moerty replied to SKULLS_Viper's topic in OFFTOPIC
i've used macs for work and studies, all i can say is that they're good for graphix works and AOL type of tasks, nothing else. you want a functional, flexible, multi-purpose machine you get a PC, you want modular options (IE change cards at will) you get a PC. macs are for those people you see in AOL adverts, for you europeans who haven't been exposed to these ads you're not missing anything, except some class A entertainment. examples "instant messaging is like having a conversation with someone online!!" "whenever you get mail you get a sound message (you've got mail!, that is so cool, i wonder who that guy is?" and my favourite "my father uses it, both my brother's use it." . how stupid are these people, and how ignorant are they of their stupidity that they'll be willing to expose it on the teevee? *edit* the mac VS pc debacle also goes a long way to show that specialized mechanisms (macs) will be more stable than open ended mechanisms (PCs). you might say a PC is a jack of all trades and master of none.
