  1. any way to change, permanently, the default name of the server I create? It always pops up with my machine name and my username, when in fact I want the server to be called differently. where is this set?
  2. Hi guys, quick question on how I can run a dedicated server for ever - i.e. even if the last person leaves, I still want the mission to continue, so that when I come back a day later it is still at the same point. Is that possible? Or should that be the default behaviour anyhow?

    Chopper Flight Sim needs to be reconfigured

    this issue has been raised again and again - loads of people raise it and get told off for wanting too much. frankly, i don't think so - the flight model is, shall we say, less than weak. it doesn't need to be hardcore either, but right now it's at arcade level. let the flame wars begin - just that i don't understand what is so bad about wanting something halfway decent? i'm not crapping on arma2, i just want a more-than-arcade flight model. there's countless threads on this forum about this, how come people raise it over and over again?

    is this 'fixable' via mod? please say it is (because it's just quite bad!)... somehow I don't believe BIS will fix it. though i hope, of course :D
  12. Guys, anyone know of a download location that has the demo not as an .exe file? DL of .exe files is blocked here, and would like to use my DL speed here to get the DL done in advance prior to getting home, onto my usb stick.
  13. hi guys, anyone able to recommend a mod to disable this? my character in MP feels the need to constantly update everyone on where he is, which i find pretty annoying... any way to disable this?

    neon, <<First off I would say that the helicopter flight modeling isn't too bad for a low fidelity ALS (air land sea) battle sim (certainly light years ahead of Battlefield 2). >> given all that you have written, what do you think makes the above statement true (re BF2)? i for one, think that the controls are way too arcady, in arma, and concurr with what you said about what should be fixed. but how exactly is in your opinion arma's FM better than the BF2 FM (for choppers), given that the probs you mentioned are not there in BF2? so what makes it better? interested to hear.

    Well, you can usually still save it. Although I guess the engine failure should be a bit more random. This man speaks the truth, you can save it, it's just hard to figure out if you have no RL experience with Choppers (I have some, but it's almost none) haven't tried this - is autorotation modeled?

    to clarify - i am in no way advocating a dumbing down of the flight model - that is not the point. my point is that, as it is, i dont think it is correct. the rudder thing is one thing. best way to summarize it would be to say that the controls are arcady. i'll have to prep some videos of the different chopper flight models, as an example to compare to, say in BF2 and a heli-sim - can't do that at the mo. though.

    ok, to clarify - i'm not suggesting going to an OFP model, and not to a professional sim model - but at least to a level of BF2, because the current model is just not right...
  19. i second hunter on the improved flight model cobra - that would be fantastic. the helicopter flight models are quite crap, imho, even compared to something lik BF2

    not that the OFP flight models were good (flying on rails is one of my memories), but i find that the flight models for the choppers in ArmA are worse - they're not on rails, but feel very simplified in comparison to other chopper flight models, say BF2. now, of course, not being a pilot, someone can say that actually the ArmA model compared to the BF2 model is more realistic - don't think so, but it's possible. generally in ArmA i have the feeling of flying in straight lines... it just doesn't feel right. just my two euro cents. think ArmA could be much better,if this were 'fixed'.

    hello, have Win XP Pro and ArmA 1.08. I'm unable to connect with online servers, to play online. When I try to do from within the game, my server list never populates - it stays empty, despite numerous refreshes. When I try to connect via Qtracker, the game starts, screen goes black and I get the message, in white, at the bottom of the screen, saying "Wait for host" - and the game never connects. Any hints on how to deal with this?

    w0lle, thanks for your reply. unfortunately (as regards connecting in-game) one is with the same problem as I have (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=68;t=64709;hl=connect) and the other, on closer inspection, is not 'on topic' (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=73;t=64793;hl=connect). jackass, thanks for the tip, can't remember clearly right now but i'm pretty sure it was not in LAN mode.
