    FDF sound pack v1.0

    hey guys yeah the sounds arent perfect but the main thing is they are an improvement over the original ones, big time! So thanks for that. one thing though, the chopper sounds are now much louder when you are flying in the choppers, this is good but it makes it much harder to hear teamspeak when piloting. Is there any way to lower the volume of choppers when piloting them, as in reality im sure the pilots headphones would cut out most of that sound anyway. just a thought kiwi.

Hi there, I am trying to get the maxmem=512 command to work on the new patch, i have edited the batch file to look like this: START "" /D"%CD%" /B "%CD%\beta\arma.exe" -mod=FDF_Sounds;beta -nosplash -maxmem=512 (as you can see i am also running FDF sound mod.) the sound mod works fine, but according to my system monitor the maxmem command isnt working, ArmA is still helping itself to most of my 2 gigs. Can someone help please? im sure its something simple. But want to max out stability and see if it helps the lego world problems i now have with the beta patch. many thanks Kiwi

    *Possible fix* This might be worth testing, seems to have solved it for me, but i know this problem can get worse over time and i havnt had the time to test it.. I was fine under the old 1.05 patch, new beta patch sent me off to lego land. ok I just went and edited my batch to look like this: START "" /D"%CD%" /B "%CD%\beta\arma.exe" -maxmem=512 -mod=FDF_Sounds;beta -nosplash SO FAR (almost no actual time spent testing) it looks to have solved the lego problem - moving the maxmem to the front seemed to make a difference - missions that were lego (LOD) heavy seem better) any thoughts? X2 4600 XFX 8800 GTS 2 gig ram vista ultimate
  4. ok I just went and edited my batch to look like this: START "" /D"%CD%" /B "%CD%\beta\arma.exe" -maxmem=512 -mod=FDF_Sounds;beta -nosplash SO FAR (almost no actual time spent testing) it looks to have helped - moving the maxmem to the front seemed to make a diference - missions that were lego (LOD) heavy seem better) my resource monitor was showing less than 512 KB memory usage, but then it went back up to over a 1000 KB. Im hoping this reshuffle has helped, but can anyone please tell me for sure how to monitor if the maxmem-512 command is workin under windows vista? thanks again Kiwi
  5. hey talbot cheers for the quick reply.. yeah actually i havnt tried that will do so now, but i cant see why taking the fdf mod out would make it work, like i said according to system monitor arma is using way more than 512 of memory, the fdf command wouldnt nullify the maxmem one would it? has anyone got the fdf command to work with the maxmem one?

    Sir my sentiments exactly all great before 1.05 beta, lego world after it. can we confirm that we have all posted this on the bugtracker? come on people, show of hands - who has registered this 1.05 beta lego world bug on the bugtracker? the more noise we make the better our chances of getting a decent fix. so, show of hands?

    ArmA Public Beta Patch 1.05.5143

    Hey there all well well well, the fun continues... I have an 8800 GTS, was loving the old 1.05 with the maxmem command, all was good. New patch... OH MY GOD! I love BIS, what a great patch, white fog is gone, fps increase by 10 to 15 frames, environments look amazing. Hang on though, all of a sudden i get textures reverting to commodore 64 standard whenever i change views, it lasts for maybe 1 second each time, occasionally it stays that way, i swear my calculator has better graphics (and its solar powered too! I assume this is know as 'LOD' i keep reading about? what does LOD stand for? and can someone tell me what causes it and can i fix it? Why would this new patch cause this?     hey thanks warpuppy, really appreciate it, i'll msg you the phrases i need recorded as wav files. I can make them sound radio-like using goldwav, unless you have a good way to do it?     Crashing to Desktop

    hi all well i have vista ultimate, and i was having the same problem after 1.05.   14. Hi there, I guys im new here and currently creating my first mission! As per usual i figure why start simple when you can swing for the fence straight away? cue hours or forum searching... now i know i have seen somewhere how to sink objects into the ground, but i cant find it again! ahhh what i want to do is create a downed blackhawk that my soldiers have to destroy to achieve a mission objective. so i need to eiother have an empty wreck that can be destroyed? or have a empty chopper with damage set to 1, but it looks like it landed not crashed, so i was thinking of sinking it into the ground a bit so it looks like it bellied out? Is this possible? also i dont know how to achieve the objective when it gets destroyed... oh and is there a way to make it smoke easily? i shoved a fire under it which looked ok is this the best way? thanks all, appologies for not finding this out myself, but honestly im going blind from all the forum trawling im doing, i even have my own favourites database in explorer with tips i think i will need, just missed these i guess. cheers,. Kiwi. oh ps, could also use an easy way to have a flare lit in the ocean at night so my player can eject in the right place, is this doable?

    STALKER has ruined my ARMA!

    Hey all just throught i would post this warning! watch out for STALKER and other fps's. After playing STALKER for just 3 days, i returned to Arma and got owned by the AI. Picture this scene.. Jump out from cover, hand poised over medikit quick key and quick save, cue race between me and enemy, who can shoot fastest and run out of medikits soonest? oh wait. im playing arma, one shot, ai kills me.. needless to say stalker got old pretty fast and i came straight back here, gotta love ArmA, just remember it aint a fps like the others..... you need to think to play this game!

    Commanding A.I. -  Tutorial Needed

    hey psychosmos and others, thanks for the info, this is a great thread, ive been using the f keys way too much, not using space enough! what commands do you all find most useful? which ones tend to work most effectively? flanking? watching a direction? this is a good thread, very useful. at the moment most of my squadmates tend to be more of a liability than a help in firefights, i cant wait to use them normally. cheers kiwi.
  18. Hi all quick question, can you stack commands in ArmA? ie, can i order a unit to 'move to that tree, remain crouched and watch the south?' Can i do this in three successive commands, or do i need to wait till he reaches the tree, then issue the crounch command, then the 'watch south' command? it would be nice to be able to 'fire and forget' when commanding my troops, the micromanagment of troops in combat is tricky.. any advice? thanks, kiwi.
  19. thanks for this bana interestingly though, this doesnt work with units other than those classed as objects - so it doesnt work with a chopper, the chopper just stays sat on the ground, it wont sink in... any other ideas please? ie, can i make the object uh60 wreck, destroyable? also any help on the other requests? sorry to tie more than one thing to a thread... thanks again
  20. Hey all Well as the description says, I cant register on the bug tracker to log an error as there doesnt seem to be a register button where its meant to be! Now in this forum there is a lot of noise about the problems us vista drivers are having with our shiny new 8800 cards, (degrading textures, white fog (seriously i just thought sahrani had a polution problem), wildly varying frame rates, slow frame rates compared to other new games eg stalker, 100fps on max, arma 25 fps on max???) oh and apparently our dual processors may be causing issues too? Not to mention the 1.05 patch crashing our otherwise crash-free 1.04 rigs back to the stone age every 5 minutes unless we politely ask our machines to whoa there, and apply the 512 maxmem choke-chain. so my question is, if you have any of the above problems, have you registered them on the bug tracker, and if so, any reply or acknowledgment from BIS that they are looking into it? ie have BIS said, or indeed could they say; 'Hi there 8800 owners, yes we know you love your pretty new cards, but sorry arma gets along with 8800s like borat gets along with your average american, they just arent speaking the same language, - but dont worry, we are looking into it, and the issues such as (insert issues here) are being taken care of' (or words to that effect) (before you ask, yep i have searched the bugtracker, but there dont appear to be detailed bugs already reported for the above issues) so whats the story all? any thoughts? cheers, Kiwi. x2 4600 dual processor 2 gig corsaire (pretty quick cant remember the number) RAM 8800 GTS (runs STALKER pretty good, - cant handle vista poker though....)   22. hey there all, an interesting thread... desertfox, as for going back to XP, i reiterate the point made by others, i loved my rig on 1.04 ArmA, it was better looking than my last girlfriend and more stable too. Hey and all the vista bashers, it aint so bad! my vista ultimate rig is great, and i actually like the look and feel of vista, which is why i chose to upgrade to it, i know enough about comps to have made the choice, i wasnt duped by microsoft.. it was mainly 1.05 that caused the perverbial sh*t to hit the fan. (except the whole fog thing) What i actually started this post to look for was if there was any word from BIS, believe it or not i am actually patient and dont mind waiting for BIS to sort the game out and indeed get it dialled in for Vista, i dont expect all the answers now, what i dont understand is the way they produce a patch that causes issues, but then wont even acknowledge that these issues are present, leaving the community to ferret out solutions themselves. (please correct me if i am wrong about this, is there a post or bugtracker entry that i am missing?) desertfox, maybe their support staff trained at the same helpdesk school you did? a simple post on their website saying that they are on to it would leave me smiling like an understanding parent and happily waiting for the next patch. just a thought.. oh and desertfox you mentioned that i must know 'little to nothing' about software development.... yeah guilty as charged... but i do try to get out occasionally.... bionic, good call. Kronzky, thanks for the post, i cant even see the option to register, when i click on register, the only option is to load an existing account, according to the screenshot in the BIS help area, there should be an option next to this for new accounts. its not there for me.

    Buying ArmA

    Yep, this is a great game, but your 8800 wont like it.. couple of bits of advice to save you trawling throught these formums for solutions.. if possible only patch up to 1.04, it is stable for your 8800 and looks great (except for white fog) if you go to 1.05, not really hugely noticable differences, use the -maxmem=512 execution command to limit your machine to only using 512 RAM, this will reduce the crashing.. good luck, enjoy Kiwi.
  24. cheers all for the replies, couple of things... i didnt think my post was particularly rantish, but still.... OK, so i guess its my fault for making the mistake of purchasing a new computer, in an attempt to ensure that i could run a new game on the latest equiptment. correct me if im wrong but vista wasnt a particularly good secret was it? i mean people knew it was coming a fair way before it arrived..same with the 8800 cards... In fact dont all new computers come with vista now? BIS can hardly say they didnt see vista coming can they? Maybe the thought it would be a fad... the yoyo of the computer world? imagine if a car manufacturer produced a car that didnt run on unleaded fuel after all petrol stations removed their leaded pumps? or hey, why doesnt 20th century fox just release all its new movies on VCR? and the new 50 cent album will come out on casette.... (ok that bit was a bit rantish, but i hope you can see my point? Its hardly the fault of the public who got vista as standard on their new PCs and bought the latest hardware to give them an advantage is it? BIS should have been ahead of the curve shouldnt they? otherwise their product is obselete before its launched - its harldly the fault of the consumer) Oh and by the way, any word on the original point of this post? the bugtracker? why cant i register to log these bugs? has anyone logged them already? have BIS come back to us? cheers, Kiwi.     Increased view distance, quite stunning

    Walker, I have to disagree with you on this one, how do you explain the issues that abound with 8800 users and vista users also? Future proofing is all well and good, but the 8800 architecture is the future of DX10 capable gaming, and it will be on Vista, so why does ArmA run on vista machines with 8800s like a drunken russian oiltanker captain, crashing into every iceberg it comes near? We have problems with white fog which this improvement will enable us to see even more of, helpful.. not to mention all the crashes etc that came with 1.05. futureproofing isnt futureproffing if the software cant handle even current top end hardware. just a thought... hey anyone want to buy an 8800 gts? 10000m of white fog included....
