Pirates would be no fun unless you could walk across the decks, hopefully that will be possible in ofp2.

    Us presidential election 2004

Exactly the same as Bush probably, even if the democrats had won, the course is set on the middle east and Kerry would have probably opted for a continuation of Bushes policy. Its not as though the plight of the palestenians was an election issue.

Does anyone think that this whole thing has a note of hysteria to it. Everything i read in papers and a lot of what comnes from politicians, espically in regard to Turkeys entry into the E.U seems to suggest their are a lot of people out there who think "our way of life is going to be destroyed! or something - "it will be as thoufgh the battle of vienna never happened" being a good example.

Dude, scrapping income tax is crap idea. A sales tax as an alternative would work like a flat rate of income tax, Bushs social security plan sounded like something he made up to fill up airtime on the debate. If really want these things seek out your nearest libetarian party, no major political party would make a change like scrapping income tax.

I live in london, and something i find funny is that so many tabloid reading idiots have all these opinions since Bush got in, they churn out the usual he stupid, blah, blah, even though they have no interest in politics and couldnt tell you why they think that or what Bush represents, most of them would BE Bush voters if they were american. So thanks America four more years of twats who work in offices repeating tired cliches and then staring blankly at you if your stupid enough to assume that an opionion on something means that you konw or care about the subject. Once again, i've gotta say this election reveals no more about the U.S population than the last one, they lean more towards the right than europeans and always have. Â Personally I think the fact that peple of all different races think of themselves as American makes nationalism less obvious and not so tied in with racism, and thats one of the reasons for that leaing to the right and the fact that people in the U.S are keener on flag waving and stuff.

Yeah, but its seems like in the U.S there are two very different perceptions of what constitutes a screw up and what constitutes success. Iraq better have turned around by then or the republicans will be out for sure. I guess, from my point of view, even success in Iraq has problems if it means Bush will be encouraged to go in Iran or something, I reckon that would would probably make Iraq look pretty tame in comparison.

We'll see whos laughing when you get your first ration of soilent green  Too be honest, i think the U.S - or americans rather, get a bad rap, who would you rather was the worlds dominant power Russia, China? Superpowers step on smaller countries, europe already had its turn - Britain, France, Belgium to name a few all have nasty imperial?colonial histories - right up to the 50's and 60's and we're inclined to dress them up as well. All thats really changed is how obviously superpowers can get away with shafting these countries or people and keep the moral high ground with your own people.

The Hilux is so cool, I saw this car show on TV, and they basically just beat the shit out of a second hand hilux to see how much abuse it could take. They hit it with bats and a small wrecking ball - which knocked it a few feet but only put a little dent in it, they drove it in the sea, they may have set fire to it, and by the end of the show it was still running!

Lol, their kinda like boxers then. The elections still more or less 50/50 either way, so it really dosent tell you a massive amount about U.S support for Bush, given that he just got barely got in last time round and that was pre 9/11 so in that respect I guess the results not telling you a great deal about what the people think, that the last election didnt already. As far as succsessors go.. Theres Jeb Bush and George Prescott Bush (Americas first latino president could be a Bush!) Well at least Jenna Bush is pretty hot, and a pothead if you believe the rumors, so thats 2 ticks in the plus column.

Who exactly is you? And when did "they" allow Kim Jong Il and Saddam Hussein to rise to power. The U.N led by the U.S fought against North Korea and would have won if China didnt kick their ass all the way back to the south and Saddam Hussein was an ally of the west until the 91 Gulf war. You may have heard something about a war they had with Iran, he kept communists and islamic fundamentalists down. Are you American? Because if you are, your English is terrible, if not its pretty good.

    The Iraq thread 4

I dont think people on the right think we like Saddam Hussein, its just a cheap shot they like taking, again and agian again. It dosent matter that the 9/11 report says there was no real or meaningful link to al-queda, they said their was some kind of tenous, vauge link and thats good enough. I love this response to these missing explosives: "shit happens, dont worry about it" It makes you wonder, if there were any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, whos to say those sites didnt get cleaned out? The Republicans have more or less conceded (not publicly) that there werent enough troops on the ground, they then compunded that by disbanding the Iraqi army, even if you were pro war, how can you not see that this occupation has been planned poorly, its not like there was a shortage of people saying both ideas were shit to begin with.

For an opfor and setting, how about ripping off Ghost Recons Cuba expansion i.e Castro dies and anarchy breaks out. Or Haiti - although Tonal kinda covers a similar environment. Phillipines or Indonesia would give you a setting no one else has covered and their both intresting and have lots of conflicts.

I know its usually wasted on this board Why should Kerry go on O'Reillys show, he's completley biased and O'Reilly couldnt interview Bush objectivley (not that he would have got the interview if he could/did), He could do a lot of damage just spouting off crap a few days before the election. Although he and FOX generally seem to have toned it down over the last, mabye, 2 months.

    The Iraq thread 4

They'd just put it up on the internet and regular networks would then pick up on it anyway. They want foreigners to stop going there to work or do humanitarian work, it's get reported anyway, affecting public opinion in the coalition countries is probably secondary to making the reconstruction impossible by depriving the coalition of skilled workers.

    Russia may canonize soldier

Ah, come on, the guys was a conscript, not John Rambo in Chechnya, they would have kept a real close eye on him anyway. Either way, ots too bad Russian churches arent apparetley as concerned about the treatment of conscripts by other russians.

    Russia may canonize soldier

From the article. "Not only did Yevgeny not betray his faith, he also refused to betray his army. He refused to sell out his friends," said Rodionova, who lives alone in a small town outside Moscow. He was kidnapped and held in a cellar for months. Rodionova said his captors had told her they gave him the choice of adopting Islam and joining them, or death. Now that I re-read it, I guess its open to interpretation to an extent, mabye it would've been a situation like the ones I mentioned were captured conscripts were forced to do menial labour, but it sounds like they wanted him to fight against Russians, (thats what i took joining them to mean, rather than joining Islam generally.) On a somewhat related note: Russian Conscripts Die From Bullying 21/10/2004 11:51 AM Sonia Oxley Bullying in Russia's army is on the increase with many recruits dying of injuries or killing themselves after mistreatment ranging from cigarette burns to sexual abuse, a human rights group said on Wednesday. In a report, US-based Human Rights Watch said most of the violence was meted out by rank-and-file soldiers to newcomers as part of an initiation ritual. But officers who ignored abuse in their units were as much to blame, it said. "Any sort of an initiation system in an army ... has a tendency to lead to excess. When a line is not clearly drawn by higher officers these excesses become the rule and that is what has happened in Russia," the author, Diederik Lohman, said. http://www.xtramsn.co.nz/news/0,,3772-3793211,00.html

But we dont know that he choose his religon over death, I'd still say his problem was with killing other Russians. (See post above yours.)

    Russia may canonize soldier

They probably wouldnt have killed him if he had said he'd change and fought with them (at least not right away.) Â The Chechens used to take conscripts (not volunteers) as prisoners and use them as indentured labour. Â I dont know if this still continues though, i doubt it. I said this before, so i'll say it a little more forcefully, they wanted him to KILL other Russians, none of us were there and neither was the jerk who wrote the article or the people who have started calling him a saint, they have little idea what he went through and have choosen to pin the "saint" label on him. Â I would easily lie about my belifs to save my life, but im not going to kill people, espically people i may know to save my life (I hope.) Do you think if the Russians re-captured him they'd let him change sides back, or would his former comrades kill him on the spot? Â He still would have been a prisoner, just one that was allowed to fight wwhen needed, what would he have done, stayed till the Checyans win and then they'd let him go? note: I dont think theres anything in the bible about lying about your faith per se, but your breaking a commandment just by lying and all thise Christians got fed to lions by Romans cause they wouldnt lie so thier must be something about it. I never really understood why an omnipetant, forgiving god would care one way or the other what you told a pyscho who wasnt even in your religon anyway, but I guess thats why im an atheist.

    The Middle East part 2

His own men accused him of doing it, perhaps their part of the global liberal conspiracy. "a military police investigation into the matter is continuing" do the geneva conventions apply in a civil war or police action? - not sure what the correct term is. Because im sure there are rules about not mutilating corpses, and that ought to go double if its a 13 year old girl.

    Russia may canonize soldier

The wanted him to fight against Russians, that probably had more to do with the refusal than denying his faith, he couldnt have just snuck off to a church and fixed it later. "many Russians are pressing the Orthodox church to canonize him as a saint, martyred in a holy war against Islam." Kinda scary really.
