Not true, whenever I play a tank mission and I am the team leader, I always play as gunner because my reaction time is always much better than the AI. I simply order the gunner to get out, tell him to hold position so he doesn't try and follow us, then I switch to the gunner position. Because the gunner outranks the driver, I can still give him orders.

Carrying on from this older poll, here is bigger, grander one to coincide with this current thread encompassing all the characters to date. Vote for your overall favorite character!

When were Fowley and Kozlowski killed? After Montignac?
-
Gotta be James Gastovski. Anybody with that much attitude gets my vote. Although Victor does have a cool Pierce Brosnan accent.

I could never figure out the ending though when Lukin and the two Russians are sailing away in their boat next to a bunch of really big LSTs. Were they supposed to be West LSTs or East? Either way it's bad, because the Russians aren't just going to let Lukin mosey on by, and the West most likely won't let a russian boat just sail past them.

About two thirds of the way through Guba orders him to massacre some civilians so he switches to help the Americans.

I don't hate CM and I don't "hate" Red Hammer, but that's not to say it's anything to rave about. The missions are way too complex and Dmitri Lukin is a dumb-ass. Every time he encounters somebody he doesn't know he snarls at them and barks some order in very lame sounding "Russ-glish". Plus some missions (especially Grounded) were insane! (Re-assaulting the same base you just killed everybody in, flying to repair your helicopter, rescuing some dudes, then assaulting two entire squadrons of tanks with only rockets in a very limited time period.) In CWC that would have been at least 2 missions, maybe more. Cold War Crisis is still the best, with Resistance a very close second (that may change when a lot of the bugs get fixed). Â

Yeah, for a guy who hates ruskies so much during the "normal" game, Victor sure seems surprised about that turn of events.

Also, depending on whether you succeed in getting the intelligence in Information, the following mission Occupation changes slightly. If you get the intel you launch your attack later and some tanks have already left, making the job easier. Also, I've never heard of this extra mission after Lipany (the mission Hunting I believe); do you know what happens? The normal mission to follow is called Trap and you assault Petrovice.

Operation flashpoint: game of the year edition
karynova replied to Espectro (DayZ)'s topic in NEWS DISCUSSION
Well I knew that RH was created by CM, but I still thought that they might have worked togethor so CM could add their fix (which they don't seem to have bothered to create anyway) into the regular BIS patches for OFP. What I meant was that there never seems to be any fixes made to existing campaigns. The patches BIS releases are always focused on game engine bugs or new features, and AFAIK, there has not been any patches for the missions themselves. Please correct me in I'm wrong, OFP Mom. -
Operation flashpoint: game of the year edition

Does anybody know whether they're going to fix some of the big bugs in the older campaigns, especially the helicopter crashing after the cutscene in Red Hammer. And how come none of the patches BIS has released since these bugs have been found contained fixes anyway? It doesn't really make sense for CM to re-release the older games when they are fully aware they contain nasty bugs. -
I consider myself a veteran OFP player, but I noticed the other day that I never ever use the "Wait for me" command. When I do, it seems to do exactly the same thing as the "Stop" command. Can anybody tell me what the difference is between these two commands, and what people use the "Wait For Me" command for, if anything?

When moving in "walk" mode (holding a pistol, strafing, hit the 'f' key, etc.) all of your men still move in full run mode, and will eventually end up a fair distance ahead of you!
-
I tried doing that, but when I get back they just stand around looking stupid. I can even push them around and they do nothing. I guess I'm missing something.

I have just had a very different version of this common "lose weapons" bug: I had just finished playing The Pass before I went on vacation two weeks ago. All my men were fully stocked up with pistols, NV, Binoculars, RPGs, etc. When I got back today I loaded up my savegame and found that, while all the weapons in my pool were still intact, every weapon me or my men were carrying was gone. In their place was the standard equipment for a new soldier (AK47 CZ, Grenades, etc.). This is just as frustrating as losing your weapon pool because I had spent a lot of time collecting pistols and NV for all my men. Does anybody have any clues as to why this might happen? As I said, I finished The Pass, continued to the next mission, most likely clicked cancel to get out and quit and did nothing until today when I opened the game again. Argh.

I noticed on Avon's FAQ that, depending on the outcome of the the previous mission (Information), you get to play different versions of the Occupation mission that follows it. I assume the decision is based on whether you work stealthily or give your position away in Information and the Soviets change their plans accordingly (not that Information was very hard in the first place, especially considering the missions that came before it). Does anybody know what changes? More tanks I assume.

Sounds like a pretty lame way to bump it up to a 20 mission expansion pack.

I was playing Fireworks (the one where you blow the bridge) and I was sitting up on the hillside picking people off with my M21 when out of nowhere this V-80 plows nosefirst into the road, explodes, and then slides the entire length of the enemy base, taking out almost all the enemy soldiers and most of the buildings. For once I appreciated the AI handling of the V-80!

Clipping problems have been mentioned many times before, but here are to specific problems: a) The standard six-story white apartment building with one open apartment on the top left. If you climb to the roof, lie prone and then look downwards you will sink into the building and slowly fall all the way to the ground. This does not seem to affect the two-story or eight-story apartments. b) In Petrovice there are two eight-story apartments directly next to each other (Dc61). If you climb to the roof of one and jump towards the other and continue to hold the forward button once you hit the wall, you will "cling" to the wall as if the floor extends outside of the wall slightly. If you let go of forward and then immediately hold it again, you will fall to the next floor down where the same thing happens. This way you can work your may down the outside of the building without dying.
-
You can also try going into the cutscene with a huge altitude. If you begin climbing to about 1500 before you pass over the repair area you will be fine after the cutscene ends. You usually end up flying around 2000 with an airspeed over 600.

This happens if you perform very poorly on more than 3 missions (ie. you got red x's on 2 previous missions and the colonel got ticked off at you). Check this entry at the Avon's FAQ for help. You should also really consider upgrading to the latest version. Many, many bugs have been fixed. You will need to download Ultimate Upgrade 2, Ultimate Upgrade 3 and Ultimate Upgrade 4 to get all the way up to the current version (1.46).

Damn! If I had two extra monitors and 2 3d video cards just lying around that I would be willing to set up only to be blurred out for marginally improved realism in one game I would start pinching myself.

So what is the official release date now? I always thought it was June 21st, but then June 28th started popping up on various news sites. Now Electronics Boutique has it listed for June 25th, although that may be the shipping time involved with a 21st release date. Anybody know for certain?
