  1. Hi, I have the following spec: * Athlon 2.2 Ghz * Epox 8K3A * 256 MB DDR2700 RAM. * a Radeon 8500 running latest drivers * Windows XP. My machine chugs along totally when playing OFP: Resistance, and that's worrying as I have a rating of 4500 in the OPF preferences. My distance setting is 2000 but that's not that much for my system spec, is it? Would increasing virtual memory help (I currently have it at 768MB) Would you recommend more RAM, or should I turn off HW T&L? What a bummer, I love the game but the frame rate sucks. And it shouldn't!

    Resistance buglist

More bugs (maybe BIS should send us a copy of their Test Track Pro client so we can report bugs directly to their database! <grin> ) * If I see soldiers at long distance through Binoculars they are not reported. Similarly, eyesight of my soldiers is crap - I can see men in the distance, whereas they cannot * AI of soldiers needs to be tweaked: the enemy are sitting ducks who never try to flank the team or take cover (see "constructive criticism" thread for more details) * Vehicles veer wildly under AI control * Dead Bodies sometimes hovering in mid-air when you say "Get in as driver" * AI refuses to drive cars that are damaged (but still driveable by player) * If I climb into an East vehicle when my team are with me, they fire at me in the vehicle!!! * Soldiers walk across blown up bridge and fall to their death!! * In the "blow up the helicopters" mission, I scored 3 direct hits on a BMP-2 and it refused to blow up!! It didn't fire so fast, but it still fired. * Ammo and vehicles that should be carried over from previous mission, aren't!

    Constructive criticism

Another couple of issues I have with the game (sorry to be a moan): * (This point has been raised before in this thread ) I hate having to correct the driver of a vehicle all the time. I say "forward" and the tank veers left, right wildly. And that's in AWARE mode, not DANGER. I end up driving the tank myself, and getting blasted because the gunner's asleep really p*sses me off. * The Delta force and Spetsnaz are supposed to be the elite troops in the game, able to think for themselves. I hate to say it, but in this game they are dolts! Example: in the "Steal The Tanks" mission, one of the Spetsnaz who parachuted in was literally standing on top of me - he MUST have seen me - but instead of killing me he just ran by and I blasted him. * After telling a soldier to "Watch" a given direction, how do you tell them just to return to normal, and face the direction I am going (without issuing another watch command.) ?

    Constructive criticism

Some more bugs: In the "ambush the convoy" mission, I killed drivers of both trucks and was able to drive the trucks myself. However, when I ordered one of the AI to do this, he said "Roger", climbed aboard and then climbed back out immediately!!!! Also, the bodies of both drivers were levitating by the truck doors - it was really weird, I could clip right through them! So, I manually drove the trucks back to base, but what was the point? The ammo and truck was not present in the next mission. I also think the AI needs a massive[\b] bit of tweaking. The enemy doesn't seem to have awareness of being shot at, nor any particular tactical capability. I want the enemy to flank me, not just sit there and die! On the "blow the bridge" mission I was using an M21 to pick off Soviets left right and centre - they didn't seem to be aware I was shooting at them!! They just *rotated* (in "Scan Horizon" command style! on the bridge and didn't even bother to run away. It was fun, but for the wrong reasons! Also, whenever explosions go off, the men remain stand up and don't bother going prone or taking cover - they must be very well disciplined!!! Apart from that, Resistance looks to be the business. Sort the AI out BIS and OFP will be the best game of all time!!!

    Why all the planes?

The only new models I see advertised on this board are planes! Antonov, Mig 29 etc. The Antonov looks good though... What's the point? OFP doesn't let military planes fly at 43000 feet like the real ones do (pedants: don't correct me if this figure is wrong! If you give new OFP planes up-to-date JDAM munitions or Fuel-Air explosive type weapons, how are you going to use em in game fairly? In single player missions, such weapons would make the game too easy - or too hard, depending on what side is doing the flying. I'd rather the modellers started creating ground vehicles, or stationary AA/ AT positions. Something better to blow up... and they could shoot down all those silly planes!!! PS: I am really glad WRPEDIT is out at last although I won't know the first thing about how to use it . Anyone fancy making a large city? I know OFP doesn't handle lots of buildings very well on lower spec PCs but if you have appropriate hardware (ie: a Pentium 4 2Ghz / GEForce 3 etc) then this would let us run "Saving Private Ryan end-sequence" type missions, bridges and all!!!

"original games do not fade" message - random

You mean to say that, in order to play OFP on a LAN, you need a copy per PC? Why is that? Why can't I just use one copy in my house? My LAN back home has 3 PCs so I'd need to spend 70 quid? Hmm... no thanks!! Christ, I never had these problems with Quake 3 or Sudden Strike etc etc. I was getting the self-same "Original Games do not fade" message too, but I didn't *notice* any degradation in the gameplay. Oh yeah before any smart arses kick up, the number next to bar code on my OFP CD case is POPFCDUK03. L8r Kojak

    Zombies

Well, everyone knows I'm an advocate of zombies!! .. the more the merrier, that's what I say. A co-op "Dawn of the dead" type game would RULE! (Or Day of the dead) I'd love THOUSANDS of em running rampant. Just think of using an M21 or M1A1 to pick em off, then running out of ammo and having to run for your life Problem: you'd need a REALLY fast machine to handle hundreds of units (ie: zombies) in OFP at 800x600x32 res. I run an Athlon TBird overclocked to 2.1Ghz w/ Radeon 8500, and even then OFP sometimes slows down. Also, we'd need a patch to increase the maximum number of "groups" permitted in the scenario editor - 64 groups max at present, a paltry sum I'm sure you'll agree. Does such a patch exist? Anyway, whoever is using Oxygen: for God's sake, make a zombie unit!!!

    Idear for a addon

Who's talking about zombies being intelligent? You need your AI buddies to be intelligent. Can't imagine going it totally alone, can you? Last thing I'd want is a horde of zombies to appear in full view with all my AI troops looking at a camp fire holding hands waiting for me to say "ALL, DANGER"

    Idear for a addon

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> Im all for zombies if it is done well. But to be honest, i cant imagine it being very challenging with OFPs vast open terrain. You could pick off thousands of zombies all day to your hearts content until you ran out of ammo. Then you can simple skip and dance in front of the zonbies, teasing them for being so slow.<span id='postcolor'> Until the zombies surrounded you... !! To avoid such a scenario, it would be up to the mission/ campaign creators to place the player in claustrophic situations, taking for example the mall in Dawn of the Dead: Tight spaces, lots of dark rooms, no escape except via a helicopter in the roof that needs to be refuelled... Lots of triggers could be used for the "shock" factor (zombies springing out at you) and of course you could have 3rd parties like bikers and cops (SWAT teams) etc. So, to close: if there's any kind souls who want an audience of thousands to see their name - this is the mod to make!! PS: I'm 30 years old and still talking about zombies. How sad is that?

    Idear for a addon

It is true that OFP is a military game, but surely if there is a demand for such a mod who are you to say no? Let the masses decide! I believe OPF is ideally suited for such a game, because in what other 3D combat game do you have: a) buildings that you can climb b) decent AI (this completely rules Ghost Recon out) c) nice graphics that use your PC's gfx to the full (on a Radeon 8500, like mine, the graphics are brilliant. ), d) comes with a mission editor as standard e) Has a built in scripting language e) now has a 3D model editor? Resident evil doesn't have any of the above. What, you think 640 x 480 graphics qualifies for item © ?!!! Whoever says "QUAKE 3" for the above needs shooting! If anyone's watched the film "Dawn of the dead" the rolling landscapes in that film suit OPF to a "T".
  11. I'm looking for a Surface-to-Air Missile installation, although I realise a working SAM station would be unfair - there's no electronic countermeasure equipment in OFP aircraft, so planes would drop like flies. Also, what about MLRS (Rocket launchers) and Patriot anti missile batteries? (A working Patriot that could shoot down a scud would be amazing!!!

    Static objects request

I would really like houses that you could go into. I already know these exist in OPF, but there's no large cities. I know there is a Gunslinger addon which adds new houses, but they are all "closed" - you cannot go in them. Also, Gunslinger's houses are textured quite differently (and therefore standout too much) from the houses that exist in Everon, for example. So, to summarise: please can you give us houses that look the same as in OPF, that we can hide in if necessary. A tower block wouldn't go amiss either

    Idear for a addon

Actually, I'd quite like zombies in Opf!!! Think of the "Dawn of the dead" style missions you could make. You have most of the elements already: heavy hardware, soldiers, civilians and plenty of buildings, albeit there are no large cities (something which annoys me; example: I'd love to see a Leningrad-style fight in a massive town.) I am sure there would be a massive demand for such a mod. I mean, you have sites like www.homepageofthedead.com which have thousands of subscribers. PS: I'm no Romero uber-fanatic. No flames please!
  14. Even when the road is straight, have you noticed how the OFP AI driver swerves all over the place (I am running v1.42) ? Don't tell me that's swerving to avoid being shot!! I think they should breathalyse the damn AI drivers!! Even when I say "Move | North" the bloody AI decides to take me NW or NE over the smallest of inclines in hills!!! BIS, sort this out and everyone will love ya!

    Soon 1.45

I really hope they fix the AI's inability to drive in a straight line! Controlling tanks driven by AI is *REALLY* infuriating! And sitting in a truck where the AI is driving is torture... I can appreciate the programming problems the BIS team face with following roads but I am sure they are not insurmountable? (I hope ) Oh yeah, if BIS cared to throw in some more artillery and tank types (maybe even a mine layer?) that would ROCK!!! Cheers,
