What would you like to see in ofp2

Ouch! Not that I totally disagree with what you said in some parts... I definitely want more realism. The enemies that attack you in OFP are too quiet. Just think, if they were shouting constantly, that would be unnerving! In OFP, I want blood, guts, brains splattering around me, I want to smell the smoke and run up to tanks armed only with a spoon. Don't get me wrong, I'll never fight in any real war, I hope... unless Tony Blair drags me into one

We definitely need more realistic battle sounds - the fighting's a bit too sanitised at the moment. The idea on the previous page where your troops panic, scream etc is a great one. As long as they don't flee unless told to!!! Have you also noticed that when troops are shot they are either alive and able to move, or just dead - no inbetween? Why not an intermediate state where troops can be so badly wounded that they cannot move but they are alive, so you have to medevac them? This way, you could capture enemy troops in missions (an idea from the previous page) and then send em off for "interrogation" - I shudder to think of the Spetsnaz methods I also think that we need foxholes, bunkers and messes (w/ sleeping soldiers perhaps?) where troops can bed in ready for an assault. in real life you wouldn't see troops standing out in the open ready to be shot like that. Of course, the AI would have to be super-smart to deal with concealed troops, but it has been done before, as I have said in earlier posts, with M$ close combat. It would also be nice to ride on tanks!!!

    Can't host?

yeah, I had problems hosting games until I turned off XP's in built firewall. After that all went well...
  5. Here's a question: What if I wanted the script to detect any West units, not just a single group? For example if I have 20 groups on the West side, and I want a single East unit to target whatever group approaches, is there a fast way of using "KnowsAbout" ?

Need to have more than 64 groups of units available in the editor. How about 256? I want massive battles fighting companies of men, not skirmishes with small groups. Please don't say "processor power is not good enough yet" - I reckon a 2.2Ghz AMD XP+ available NOW should be fast enough to handle full scale battles. This time next year when OFP2 pops up (perhaps ) such CPUs will be very cheap. Obviously the editor would need to be beefed up, to allow faster creation of large numbers of units - the current editor is average, to be honest. A 3D Preview of maps you created with units in place would be nice, instead of having to start a "preview game" to do it. (I know what the preview button does ) But most of all I want the AI upgraded. I don't care for new vehicles, new graphics, sounds - I just want my troops to face the right direction when a T-80 comes flying at them!

    Constructive criticism

I think that with a bit better menu organisation, commanders could order their troops so much faster. In real life, how much time would it take for a commander to shout "GO PRONE"? A second, agree? In OFP you have to press "Combat Mode", select "Go Prone", oh shit I pressed 6 instead of 7, erm, press backspace, press 7, maybe 2-3+ seconds if you've not got the nimblest of fingers....
  9. kojak_2002

    Constructive criticism

I would like the command menu system improved, to be something similar to SWAT 3. Easy to use, and no confusion. Even after a year of OFP I still forget keys to press! For example: OK, off the top of your head, no cheating, what's the key combo to Disengage? If you remember it, you've probably cheated PS: I await the usual flames.

Ah... I was banned from posting from 2 days, now I'm back. I bought the addon because it got rave reviews. In retrospect, I wouldn't buy it. There's your answer.

    The quality of the resistance

I'm going to let the abuse wash over me... not going to rise to some 16 year old's rantings. If you think my opinions are crap, fine, but don't tell me to fuck off elsewhere just because YOU disagree! Anyway: I think a Close Combat type AI could be transported to operation flashpoint if BIS were inclined. The engine's 4 years old now, and it worked well on Pentium 2s, so it can't be that processor-intensive. And for those of you who think the OFP AI is above average, away f**k off and play Close Combat (after your lessons - don't fall back on your remedial homework now.) to see how it should be done. I await a good "PAYING OUT" !! LOL!

Hmm.. the power of the Internet - bringing schoolkids together. 1. When I come on this board I don't expect to be insulted for voicing an opinion, especially by kids! Or some 16 year old power-hungry moderator either. 2. AI above average eh? OK, read the "constructive criticism" thread and then say that with conviction. AI is AVERAGE and if you wanna see real AI, Microsoft Close Combat shows what can be done, on older processors. 3. Why you kids "paying me out" ? LOL!!!

Hey, "GAMEER" - much as I'd love to bitch slap your 12 year old ass on this forum, I don't want to fall foul of the moderator so YOU shut the f**k up behind your anonymity! I am trying to have a civilised discussion here, moron. OK, I realise that not everyone has a computer as fast as mine, and maybe I was taking the civilian example a bit too far, but I think it would be good for OFP to take advantage of faster computers where available, especially in regards to AI scalability options etc. I know we have "super AI" but that's not the same. And I think resistance AI is worse than original Flashpoint 1.45. I can't explain how, but the original flashpoint was WAY more challenging IMHO. Finally, don't ridicule my job. You guys are still at school and don't have one yet!

    The quality of the resistance

Just to reply. 1: Hmm... All civilians in a city carted off by the commies? OK, where to? As far as I see, there's no POW camps, no concentration camps. OK, they could've been taken elsewhere to another country but why is this not revealed in the game? Do the resistance guys have no wives or children.... ? OK, you say it's too CPU intensive to include civilians AND soldiers AT THE MOMENT, but then again resistance is a game for the future is it not: I mean, who can run the game on high ground detail at the moment? I got 1GB of RAM, AMD 2200+ and radeon 8500, and it still chugs!! 2: I work as a software engineer (true!. If I say my app delivers X,Y and Z, and you pay for my app, but I don't deliver X,Y and Z, you'd be angry, right? I paid 20 pounds, and Resistance didn't deliver totally. I am satisfied with some aspects, but dissatisfied with others - like the AI just sucks and the fact there's NO CIVVIES. End of story. Oh yeah, and the devil sounds gay. 3: On that subject, I paid 20 quid for *19* missions... the blow the bridge mission doesn't count, IMO - cos the enemy can't cross the bridge properly!!! I like to finish on a positive note though: Resistance IS the best OFP addon.

    The quality of the resistance

One of Resistance's selling points was the supposed "living" new island... Well I'm sorry BIS but having one bus flit back and forward on the first level does not qualify the island as "living"! Admit it folks, that was the first and only new concept you saw in the game wasn't it? You think, "ah, a transport system. I can take a bus to go places now". Alas, only for the 1st level... OK, you say "so what about the bus?" . OK, where are all of the civilians after you leave the city and join the resistance? Hmm, let me see... apart from when Victor's love interest (she's got pancake breasts! ) is captive and blown to bits on a failed ambush later on, you see NO CIVILIANS (The militia doesn't count! And no, there's no curfew to keep civvies indoors... Now, if you had civvies walking around the city - albeit under guard - with you operating in plain clothes, so you could operate behind enemy lines and gather information, then THAT would have been good. Finally, the new buildings really need to have openable doors for ALL rooms, then we can snipe from them properly. Christ that was a rant and a half! I still like Resistance though, because of the view distance settings, new graphics and cities. And I cannot wait for the first mission that has you rescuing a bunch of horny women from the commies... SWEET! (I need to get out more.) PS: must agree with you about Red Hammer... it was really naff and obviously aimed at appeasing the Yank market! I didn't WANT to defect to the American side - why was I forced to in the game? Why couldn't I have been an evil commie?

    The tasmanian devil is...

Can I also say that when the devil says "YEE-HA" that is the most annoying sound sample I've ever heard. I think the devil has a thing for Troska. Allegedly.
  22. kojak_2002

    The tasmanian devil is...

The tasmanian devil voice is quite camp, isn't it!!! Giving Englishmen a bad name But listen very closely cos he's not dead, one of the tank drivers in the last 3 missions (I believe it's the storm the airport) has the same voice. Therefore I conclude that the Tasmanian devil KILLED the Russians who broke in, by cheesy voice acting, and then nicked a tank and got into the resistance that way

    1. The AI is able to look through fog when humans cannot. Ditto with smoke shells. What's the point of smoke shells in the single-player game? In the mission "Trap", the penultimate mission, I ordered my men to board the T55's there. They started firing at the approaching T72 and BMP 1000m away (! and I could see NOTHING. I immediately pressed "Restart", jumped into the tank and zoomed in as far as I could go, but still saw nothing 2. Talking of that mission, why is it the two resistance tanks brought up to replace the destroyed enemy tanks are marked as "enemy" tanks (red "BMP" and red "T72")? I nearly blew them up, thinking they were reinforcements! 3. In the very final mission, one of the resistance T55's is still alive and able to move on the runway next to the SU27s!! And yet, not one of the enemy guards opened fire on it.

Dunno if this has been mentioned before, but if you start your mission next to a helicopter, the helicopter bounces for a bit, for that "just landed" look! Also, stationary tanks/ APCS seem to roll downhill of their own accord when you are driver. No, I haven't moved the mouse or pressed any keys! Turn the engine off, disembark, time accelerate to 4x and watch that tank roll down a hill itself!! In the "stop the convoy" mission, the occupants of one of the T72s got out of the tank and I killed them. I clambered into the tank and found it would still drive. I took it to the base, very pleased with myself, where I fully expected to keep it (it was servicable, after all). But no, I had to blow it up - what a waste. I am sure this qualifies as a bug, as we all know the point of resistance is to gather weapons for an assault! Next: when I drive a tank, prone enemy soldiers "bounce off" the tank instead of being crushed. And I don't think they're taking evasive action either! I can only kill them if I get speed up.
