same problem--if u got cd clone installed uninstall it-patches fine(other burning software can cause this problem as well -i have nero and its fine)op f installer detects certain registry flags and wont patch if cd clone is detected!

do u have udma enabled?i had to download fix for my chipset to get this to work--speeds everything up no end-b4 i installed fix udma mode wouldnt even cut and paste files above 20 megs-i can now install games in seconds rather than 20 mins

i have exactly the same problem--i have to clt-alt-delete then hit enter twice-u can get round by alt-tabbing out and then closing -annoying but neccessary! 1.4 athlon 386mb jetway mobo 635as pro gf2 mx400 (32mb) not sure but may be a memory problem .

same problem i had - got round it by uninstalling cd clone-patches ok now and does not crash on save!

uninstall cd clone if u have it on your system-i could then patch no problem
