(bit of a struggle figuring out where to ask this) I really want to get "arma-cold war assault" but can not with the cell data caps. So does sprocket allow you to download the files on a friends cable connection and transfer them to my computer and install them|. Their site in one place states that you download and run a downloader that downloads and INSTALLS the game. Another example show installing a game by downloading the files and them running the game installer..... meaning I could take the files to my computer and install them there (?) Gamergate clearly states that you can move and install their files so I may use them. Sprocket is very unclear on this. Thoughts very welcome! jmc -
Yes, always want a hardcopy! jmc

You want to jump in the game and play a little or experiment with editing. But no, steam FORCES you to download a load of stuff you don't need or want at that time. NO choice!! So maybe in 30 minutes or an hour later steam may allow you to play the game (if you stll want to) jmc

(EDIT. I've found that it happens ONLY if I am logged in) I searched with no results. Wish a "search string" could be searched for. Some of the bigger threads come up immediately with a completely blank page... In "General" ArmA II & OA Photography thread displays correctly. ArmA II & OA video and "Will my pc run this" both come up with a blank page. Most other smaller threads work correctly. Help! Xp Pro sp2 Firefox 3.6.13 Q9450 stock speed 4gig ram Thanks! jmc

Firefox showing blank page in some threads ?
jmc replied to jmc's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Weird, Just found out that I can see the threads IF I am not logged in. Logged in for this message and the big threads I mentioned are blank again. So no real problem I can at least read them. Don't know what would happen if I wanted to respond to one of the threads tho what with having to log in to post a response. Thanks for all the thoughts! jmc -
Firefox showing blank page in some threads ?
jmc replied to jmc's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hmm, IE loaded the pages. Firefox will not. May try to go back a version and see if that helps. Thanks, jmc -
I put 1024 and 768 in five places and the window come up correctly. Thought I could not have a "windowed" shortcut but just a -window commandline works correctly now. The following got changed by the game. No clue what or why. winX=832; winY=233; The ingame video window setting for sure does not work correctly!! Should not have to go into the config file and do a manual change. Thanks! jmc

The -window -x=1024 -y=768 works in the demo but not 1.05. In 1.05 I get a window but at 1920x1200 then I have to grap the edge and shrink the window every time. My commandline is... -nosplash -maxmem=2047 -world=empty -window -x=1024 -y=768 Anyone know if the problem is my commandline or patch 1.05? (did do a search too) Thanks jmc

I really agree about the "generic military operations" plague. I loved EW also, effective emotional response. Brings back the goodness of OFP!! Made me quite uneasy... "OMG!! I don't believe it!" But what I wonder is if it will have the same strong effect on a younger person not raised in the 50s/60s? Possible SPOILER..... Possible SPOILER..... Possible SPOILER..... Possible SPOILER..... I was quite tickled by the fact of almost everyone having a different weapon making ammo scarce... Just Brilliant. jmc

Hmm, it just dawned on me that the "micro stutters" I refer to are ALWAYS in the ArmA2 benchmark mission from the DEMO. As the camera pans across the battlefield I get the micro up to 1 large hesitation in camera movement. Can NOT say that I am aware of this happening while playing normal game. (and I find them so annoying (stutters) that I believe they must not be happening) So can anyone say that running the ArmA2 benchmark mission from the DEMO (in demo or full game) is completely SMOOTH? I am now thinking that perhaps the stutters are something to do with the camera movement. thoughts welcome! jmc

Heh, the High FPS were on a "bare" editor mission- no AI, just to test the graphic setting. Fraps FPS reading too unsteady on an active mission. Setting Video Memory to DEFAULT worked in ArmA 1 but NOT ArmA 2.(for me) I got really messed up graphics and had to change texture detail to a lower level and back up to fix image corruption. (on 1 Gig card) Dropping to next highest setting fixed the problem. Hmm, well, my SSD is a slow one 155/90 R/W but the game starts up much faster. I'll be moving to my OCZ Vertex SSD when W7 gets here. Would LOVE for the micro stutters to be gone! Oh yeah, my SSD does have the evil "jmicron" controller. :( (not the Vertex tho, once W7 get here... fingers crossed) Thanks, jmc ---------- Post added at 08:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 AM ---------- WOW, thank you for that "-world=empty" my SSD load time went from 27 to 12! HDD 37 to 15 seconds! (samsung 500Gig/platter F3s) jmc ---------- Post added at 08:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 AM ---------- Hmm, dropping to "normal" did boost the FPS! (texture detail) I thought that my card with 1 Gig would be able to handle the highest texture level and had not tested. Dropping to NORMAL helped, to LOW no improvement. Did not notice change with "video Memory- normal" thanks, jmc

Cpu - Q9450 (2.6ghz) Ram - 4GB DDR2 1066 GPU - Ati 4870 1 Gig 750/900 OS - XPpro Resolution - 1680 x 1050 Normal Score - 2899 (Arma demo benchmark in Full game) beta 1.04-59210 ----41 FPS ,view distance 1600 (just OCed to 3.3 Ghz for testing) 3.3 Ghz Normal Score - 3422 First runs - test 5 with 2.6 and 3.3Ghz both 10. Second run gives the boost to 18 Arma DEMO benchmark/full game - 41 ------------------------------second run - 41 -------------------------(OC 2.6 to 3.3) - 41 DEMO benchmark run in full game Beta 1.04-59210 gives an 18% increase in FPS over being run in the DEMO. OC the 2.6 cpu to 3.3 gig did nothing for the Arma Demo/full game benchmark. But gave an 18% boost to ArmaMark... Don't understand that but those are the numbers. The OC to 3.3 DID get rid of the large pause in the Demo benchmark (not the micro stutters tho.) (am running it on slow 155/90-R/W OCZ SSD) Some here seem to indicate that increasing memory speeds helps But that is for another day. jmc

I've got ArmA2 on a 30 Gig OCZ 155 read, 90 write. I only see an improvement in load times... hard drive- start to first menu - 35 sec SSD- 22 sec Was hoping to get rid of the ocassional studder as some mentioned here but no luck. I ran the DEMO benchmark mission in the full game and still got the very noticable pause. It just happened several seconds later then normal. The 1.04-59210beta did jump the results from 44 to 52 FPS. OT... sure would like to stop the map from loading color textures! jmc

Never mind I FINALLY got the DEMO benchmark mission to run in The full game... 1.04-59210 beta. Was getting 44 FPS in the demo and 52 in the full game. Boy, sure wish I could stand to turn OFF AA. My FPS jump from 50 to near 90! in simple test mission.(no AI) jmc Q9450/4 gig (overclock 2.6 to 3.3 GHz does NOTHING) Ati 4870 1 gig

Flashing/Pulsing in Build 59210 [Solved]
jmc replied to Rexxenexx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I had this when I had my videocard memory set to "default" (in game) Setting it to "very high" fixed the texture problem. (1 gig memory) 4870 Ati jmc -
Are you saying that the DEMO benchmark can be installed into the full game? How? Was quite disappointed to find NO benchmark in the full game. Thanks, jmc

Heh, finally got the game on sale- Gogamer midnight madness- $29 So again playing the "trial by fire". Even harder... The chopper is down, the enemy armour is IN the village. The 3 of us left are trying to get out of the village to continue the mission... BUT The mission ends as we reach the edge of the village. Hope this is not signs of things to come. As in I get to play 1/3 of the game and the "AI" finishes the rest for me. :( (I really really hate time limits!) jmc

I've only played the demo so far but this is not game engine but mission design. The main problem is that in a "single player game" ONLY the single player should be able to decide if and when the game is over! a radio call or going to a certain exit area. There I am exploring here and there, having all sorts of fun and then the game ends just because some AI wandered onto the airfield. I hate having to go over to where the APC come a shore and having to blow the treads off the thing to stop it takeing the air field. One more fun thing... there I am in the AA gun blowing everthing up having a wonderful time and then the chopper flys by and kills me along with the AA gun. (and I had not yet destroyed any friendly units to keep the buggers off the air field and ending the game) The other thing I've run into is learning when NOT to kill that last enemy or the missions ends situation(not demo). Mission ending should be the player's choice! thoughts welcome jmc

ArmA2: The All New OFFICIAL "where to buy?" Thread.

$35 at Gogamer, 48 hour madness sale. Just ordered mine http://www.gogamer.com/searchresults.htm?keywords=ArmA+2&brandId=&price=&x=&y=&653Search=true&categoryId=444758 -
Yes, I've been there... What I would like to see is that once the last item is done. An "all clear" message or "mission acomplished" message is seen. But then I chose to exit the mission or not. What I really loved was collecting weapons etc in "Flashpoint Resistance" that carried over to the next mission! That was wonderful. but possible not for everyone. I captured and repaired 5 T80s but they did not carry over to the next mission :( Loved it tho! jmc

I've tried and tried to shoot down the incoming helicopter missle and no luck. So... is it not possible or am I just having bad luck and not hit one yet? Thanks, jmc (can not seem to search on a "phrase" so far no luck with my forum search)

I was using the AA gun in the demo. When the chopper comes in and trys to take it out. Does not care that I am sitting in it :) I've finally learned how to take the chopper out about 1/3 of the time... Got to make lots of dust and smoke so that he does not come straight in but curves around to the left. Then I 've got a good chance to drop him. But if he gets a missle off I'm dead. I don't think they are shootable. (sometimes we are both dead) As for the birds mentioned... only in FarCry. (Tho I have not actually tried to hurt the birds) There are even some trees I can shoot out of my way and others can not be harmed. Thanks, jmc

I see some of what you are saying. The AI is welcome do what it wants, everything BUT "terminate the game" while I still want to play. One example..."trial by fire" demo mission, single player... I sneaked over around the enemy APC and shoot a tire out. Ran for my life after killing some of the APC group. I would run hide and try to spot the enemy first, shot one and run again. While doing this I also got the airfield personal after me. Was having a LOAD of fun running for my life, hiding, shooting, running etc. I realize I was actually making a dent in the group coming after me. and I hoped to finally come into the airfield from behind. BUT "blink" the game is over because the APC from the sea reached the airfield. All my fun and enjoyment has been terminated by the AI ending the game. I could accept the game ending on the airfield IF I am also on the airfield.. My "presence" on the airfield trigger the end game. Yes you are correct I did have to stop the friendly AI from "helping" Their "help" ends the mission. I go over to the sea shore blow the treads off of the friendly apc or get in the AA gun on the hill top and blow the friendly apc to pieces before it reachs the airfield and ends the game. (of course once you do that you better watch out for the chopper. It is not happy with you anymore) Sometimes I get it first, sometimes it get me. I played the mission "normally" several times. But after that I have to try to attack the problem in a different way to keep it interesting. Using the editor was mentioned... For me the editor is like writing a mystery novel... Great for everyone else but NO mystery to me! The mystery is exploring someone else's world not my own. Thanks for your thoughts more alway welcome! jmc
