from what i read from cod4 forums programmers at infinity ward were facing the same problems BI are looking at now with grass/bushes. According to their developer blog they found that they could raise frame rates by "self shadowing objects" meaning the artist actually draws the shadow on some of the objects. all i can say is it works and it looks fantastic. BI developers take note.

CoD4 maps are also about 1/100th the size of ArmA's main island... of course you where going to say that! this game doesnt render the entire island while your playing a small part of it . so what the heck does that have to do with frame rate drops
-
the sad thing is call of duty 4 can have nice bushes where player blend using camo and run at 60fps and the arma community cant. developers seem to get console games higher frame rates than pc theses days. and now we all have low detail config just to get it to run at 30fps.
-
means absolutely nothing if its not in game footage if its not running on a typical rig.
-
i see... so what he really means is buy ARMA: Queens Gambit and it should be fixed in the expansion b/c ARMA engine/tree/ bush lod cant be tweaked any more than 25%? it makes me wonder though want type of pc this developer is running when they developed this game that they are getting smoother frame rates than the rest of us.

BI made 1.01(patch), 1.02(patch), 1.04, 1.05(patch), 1.06, 1.07(2 beta patches) and 1.08(patch). You can say alot but BI really tried and changed alot to the game and compared to 1.00 there are (almost) no really big bugs left, ofcourse there are minor things but no game is perfect or works perfect on every PC. there still the fog problem, texture issues that cause frame drops, blood sweat and tears the single campaign which by the way is still broken. so what are they really fixing? trying and fixing is is 2 different things. i really want to love arma but its almost unplayable. but knowing bis it might take 20 patches and 3 expansions to fix.

Remove what exactly? Vegetation? Or stop using alpha textures on it? That would be pretty odd i got the impression that what he ment was: remove the vegetation wich creats lag/problems and replace with the 25% improved one, instead waiting for "next project" correct me if i missunderstood. ps- I wish that was possible. thats exactly what i meant. i only lag around certain bushes as well so remove bush that cause lag and replace them somehow. if there was ever a recall needed this is a perfect example if it cant be fixed. but i just dont want to point the finger at bohemia becuase apparently nvidia shares some the blame as well read the link below http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41351

i read an article on this very same problem. it was was either the inquirer or register and they stated nivida received alot of complaints from developers about the fog/haze bug in its 8800 series cards and they are looking to fix this bug in this September. not only has it been a problem for the arma community but it shown up in the WIC (world in conflict) community as well. ill post the link when i find it. someone should possibly sue nvidia for waiting so long to address this issue especially if they made claims of huge performance gains. sign the petition by the way http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?screwnvd heres the link http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41351

aimed at ohara: how about a complete removal of the things that are causing frame rate issues.? i think its quite unfair to gamers who bought this game to address the issue as "well we will implement such and such improvement in the next game." this is my own summarized quote interpretation.

If you have a 8800 don't download the V1.07 Beta !

is anyone using the new nvidia driver? -
Months and patches later still no go?
inthecutt replied to LT.INSTG8R's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i get exactly what your saying better optimization on bi part is appreciated. flash point to me was no where near as bad as arma. but strangely i still like this game go figure. and it is somewhat playable for the most part. the one thing that pisses me off is the pine trees. there is zero excuse for an engine to take such a hit that it creeps it to a crawl around a tree. zero BI!!!! i still achieve over 30 fps for the most part and every game thats out is always on max settings except this game. -
nvidia just released new driver for XP how have they worked for you?? will the fog clear and performance improve?? here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_97.94.html
-
i keep hearing people here using beta driver 100.2 correct? but isn't that a vista driver because i searched and i couldn't find it . last beta driver i checked on nvidia website was 80 something. someone link me website to this driver!!
-
that exactly what i meant. i was hoping this new driver may help resolve the issues so many people complained about because my card is arriving in the next few days. see what i meant about performance issues so it seems based on your armamark without knowing your setup its a combination of an nvidia/arma issue when it comes to haze/performance issues

fixed the link.. 8800 still had problems with fog so what your saying is complete bullocks. thats whats keep half of us from buying a 8800.. so do the the research before posting.

Problem with the jeep crew in Somato Night Mission
inthecutt replied to Morlock's topic in ARMA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
1) the best way to beat this mission is attack only the the soldiers and the first wave of enemies with the Humvee. there are some residual enemies around but its only soldiers so stay alert 2) don't go to the second wave point unless your willing to take casualties (I like my men to always live i dont know about you). 3) instead by pass the southern road and move on to the base which is further south and don't take the Humvee because its draws less attention/quieter. just disembark and take your squad for a hike around the approaching convoy and attack the base to the south. you could possibly even call for artillery i think. i never tried to call a strike but i know its an option if you kill the convoy before hand side note........whats fishy about this base is there are several tanks but no operators to drive them ..apparently no one on the base knows how to drive the t72s soo... don't worry about anyone jumping into the tanks because they seem surprised that your attacking 4) use the high hilly areas to your advantage and mop the floor with them. there are several patrolling guards and a 2 snipers but nothing your boys cant handle. there 3 tanks you can use against them if you like its your choice. 5)take all 3 t72's with a crew of 2or 3 in each tank and attack the 2 bmp's and t72. return to the base you stole them and enjoy a nice stat sheet of kills you rack up and most importantly all your squad is still alive. another side note: one thing i learned from OFP is explore the surroundings if you get stuck and if theres an opportunity to use the enemies weapons against them steal it at all cost to insure you have the upper hand. OFP AND ARMA is a thing mans game and presents some opportunities to take advantage of the enemy -
finally finished heres how i beat it: note use high ground when sniping because the AI will have a hard time firing where the shots are coming from 1)i came in from the rear of the base sniped the guard in the left rear tower. 2) sniped the guard in the front left most tower. waited for like 1 hour for the helicopter to crash. it sometimes crashes sooner but it crashed like an hour later. one word of advice find a tree or go prone on the flashing communication tower to hide from the chopper. 3) sniped the 4 guards in the front. no alarms triggered. 4) circled the base by using the mountain peaks surrounding the base and killed 2 more guards on the outskirt. 5) one guard was hidden under the front most tree. (if you kill him, any roaming guards inside the base or any of the guards in the center watch tower the alarm will sound!! i killed the guy under the branch and immediately( i tested several ways to trigger the alarm so i knew what to expect when i killed anybody) ran inside the base and took a t72 and wiped out everything. drove off in the sunset with tank
-
cant think of any with the draw distance arma has
-
there a flashing tower thats very tall you could go prone on a snipe the hell out of everyone but the you have to set the charges in the front of the base once the tanks start moving. im stilling studying the behavior of the AI but i almost got it. i have found that that the AI cant see that high up except for the helicopter but that ends up crashing into the mountain side.i will update when i complete.

just make a small x in the middle of bridge with satchels and enjoy the show. this mission does hang up but you can complete. after you get the ammo take out anybody leftover from the bridge then run straight for the boat and travel north to fight off the tanks engaging the 3rd platoon. stay behind the sand bags in a crouching position . don't use the howitzers their for long range only just stick with the bazooka and blow them to hell. hop in the hummer and you should get at least 5 bars. -
with bis you just have to work with them and wait to they finish fine tuning the game but once they do you got one helluva military sim. the closest competitor to AA is the ghost recon but its a little on the unrealistic side. i played my copy of aa for the first time last night and i just cant stop thing about how to complete this one mission. with that in mind i think im to leave work early just to play it

my system specs. i know nice system thanx amd x24600 msi kn9neo platinum bfg7900gs corsair xms2 2gb ddr 800 sounblaster audugy2 zs winxp pro those of you who have an audigy2 zs download the newest driver from them and it should work because that was whats wrong with mine. yes I've also had the same problem AA either disable the on board chip and swap it with a pci based non soundblaster card. remember ofp had a certain problem with soundblaster live and there was a work aound for it. Here a bit of troubleshooting for i did to solve my problem symptom 1 AA launches and crashes to bios screen= severe hardware conflict symptom 2 AA crashes to desktop with error msg symptom 3 AA fails to launch either download a new .exe file from somewhere or copy the .exe from AA program folder what i did and you should too: 1)downloaded a .exe (don't ask me where i got it from because its probably not a good idea or responsible on my behalf. if you know where to look then fine.cheers) 2)check and update soundcard drivers or revert to older driver that came with your card. 3)i know its a longshot but pull the sound card out to see if there a conflict or a bad pci slot 4)ran a memtest 5)check and updated graphics card driver 6)check cpu temp and graphics card temp 7)edit .config file located in your user profile with notepad and change your resolution.(fixed on specific issue with booting game) 8) install on different partition ex (c:/ instead of c:/programs) 9) disable onboard wireless & soundcard from bios. its never a good idea to run integrated components with games period. (all types of conflicts popup everyday) After i did all of these things mine is working flawlessly and now I'm trying to become the best sniper i can be.
