    Yes, it works, thanks! It's now much easier to engage helicopters and tanks with the M6 linebacker/M2/M3 Bradley visually. Before, it was just a race on who could press 'fire' faster when they came into the view range. (the computer usually wins) Nicholas
  2. Hi, I got LAN play to be stable, but now there are a few problems I have with it: (a) Movement seems jerky on one or both computers. This is odd considering I have a 100mbit LAN. Is there something I have to do to tell OFPR that I have a fast connection and it can use as much of it as it wants? Its performance really seems sub-par for a LAN. (b) I get some really weird graphical anomalies sometimes. Sometimes I see a horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Sometimes, the circular bases of trees extrude upwards and look like columns. (this happens mostly when I'm in a helicopter). All kinds of weird graphical glitches that never happen in single player. These are my main problems. Can someone recommend to me how to fix one or both? Thanks Nicholas

    Ah, well, since the missions I'm most worried about the view distance in are those that I made, I can manage that, thanks for reminding me that it's possible. Also I will try DirectPlay, sockets seems to have problems, thanks for the info. Nicholas

    Well, my new multiplayer server is a dual 1.4GHz Athlon w/512MB of RAM. I'd love to set the view distance up to say 3000m. How can I do it? At 900m visibility it's like you're fighting in a fog bank. Thanks, Nicholas

    uudecode is usually part of the 'sharutils' package (shell archive utilities). So, if you are using RedHat or SuSE you should probably get the sharutils.rpm package, or for other distributions, whichever one is similar. Nicholas
  6. Hi, I didn't see any other topics mentioning this... I have two computers on a LAN, one of them hosts a multiplayer game and the other joins. Randomly, one of them will just exit Operation Flashpoint Resistance (1.85). No warning, no messages, just back to Windows. It happens on both of them. They're both Athlons, one has a GeForce 3, one has a GeForce 4. No problems like this in any other games. The computers always work fine afterwards, I just have to re-run the game. I have a mod installed (Dynamic Range sound mod), and a bunch of add-ons installed, but this happens in games which don't use any of the add-ons so I don't think that's the problem. I do get a message that one of the players has a modified configuration.. not sure why, since they both have the same things installed. But I still don't think it should just quit like that. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? Thanks, Nicholas

    I've never tried Internet play so I don't know. One computer is a 1.8GHz Athlon, nForce chipset, Geforce 4 ti4600, 512MB interleaved CAS2 PC2100 RAM. The other is a 1.4GHz Athlon, VIA KT266 chipset, Geforce 3, 512MB CAS3 PC2100 RAM, SBLive. Is there some way I can set the LOD up in multiplayer? The view distance is terrible (800m or something? I usually play with 2500 or more). I'd believe the artefacts I'm seeing are LOD based. I'd rather play with the same LOD as I do in single player if possible. Thanks, Nicholas

    OK, here is what I found: With neither computers using the Dynamic Range sound mod, or both, it works just fine. If one is using it and the other isn't, then there are the multi-player problems I described, as well as the message that one computer uses a modified configuration. So, I guess this means, if you want to use the sound mod in multi-player, everyone has to use it! (I recommend it, it really does make the sounds better, esp. machine guns on tanks and explosions, grenades etc.) Nicholas

    Hmm, it hasn't happened since I disabled the Dynamic Range sound mod. That might have been it; if it happens again with it off I'll post another reply.

  12. Hi, I bought two copies of Operation Flashpoint: Resistance so I can play it at my home with my friends. One of the computers is my old game machine, and one is my new, so they both had my first copy of Operation: Flashpoint Resistance installed. I uninstalled the game on my old machine, and installed the new one I bought there. But when I start a multiplayer game it says "Remember, original games don't fade". I have two original games Why is it saying this?? I am very disappointed and feel like I have wasted my money. Please let me know what I can do about this. Nicholas (hb@of.x256.org)

    Well, no store I've ever been in has had the Red Hammer which includes the original game, and no store I've been in recently has had the original game either, so I suppose I'll just have to take it back, and give up my hopes of playing with my friends. Pity, BIS/Codemasters could have made some money out of me if the restrictions weren't so draconian.

    So should I just take my useless second copy of Resistance back to the store then? Red Hammer still needs the original game, and it doesn't come with any kind of key. I find it totally unreasonable that there is no way for me to play the game with my friend on a LAN even if I want to It's not like I haven't paid enough money already.

    In fact, I looked in two stores, and didn't even *find* a copy of the original game. So even if I wanted to I couldn't buy a copy with a different key. I only found Red Hammer and Resistance for sale any more.

    Yes, I used the new Resistance key to install the new Resistance game. I had to use the same key to install the original game, since I only have one copy of that. I can't afford (and surely don't need?! to buy two copies of *both* discs. But I definately used differrent ones to install Resistance.

    The weird thing was, when I went to install the new Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, it told me the game was already installed, and asked if I wanted to re-install it. But I un-installed the old version from the control panel. I don't understand why this happened, but maybe it has something to do with my problem?

  22. Thanks, I downloaded one. As I suspected, a superb weapon! 200 rounds makes reloading almost unnecessary, especially with the rate of fire being just right.
