chris those are the same specs as my rig, except I havn't gotten the game yet. How high can you put the visibility (granted everytihng else is maxed out) until the frames start to show signs of choppiness? also, how high do you put your screen resolution to?
-
chris please give me your computer specs. even some of the top-end graphics cards need to donwload some new software.

Agree: AI is too good at shooting. this is seriously ridiculous. they do not respond to supressing fire realistically, and they shoot with robotic rhythms/accuracy. Damage Models are outdated/crappy Beeping sound from destroyed vehicles is crazy weapons are weird (weapon sounds for some guns are silly, but we can just DL a MOD for this problem. still, it's annoying that BI cannot give us authentic sounds and so we have to download legitimate ones for ourselves) animations are much better than in OFP! kudos to BIS for that Disagree: AI pathfinding is much bad (i played it at a friend house a couple days ago, it was fine when they crossed a bridge we have version 1.05) could you elaborate about the AI? i really hoped the AI would've been better since OFP (especially their aiming capabilities). ive only played arma 1.05 once and i didnt play with any AI soldier units (only tanks). like you, i'm kinda dissapointed too when i first played arma 1.05. Specifically, the damage models really ruined the experience. still the same old hit points for tanks and vehicles, and one shot from a mp5 to the chest or back of a fully armored up, adrenaline pumped, tough grunt kills him.
-
agreed. i think the entire damage system needs an overhaul. hitpoints= terrible. check out my post in the game 2 suggestion section (it's on page 2 now).
-
ABOLISH the hitpoint system for tanks, aircraft, and troops! More realistic damage models (humvees that aren't impenetrable vs .50 caliber sniper, troops who dont die from 1 or 2 shots from an mp5 when hit in torso and troops who dont die from 1 or 2 hits from rifle in plated vest area)! make the AI worse at shooting; the AI is clearly ridiculously good at shooting. it's a joke how good they are at shooting better AI actions (no going prone in the middle of street, no 1 by 1 shot sniping with machine guns)

the main reason i'm against mods is because it makes multiplayer dead. like in OFP mp, almost every server will require diff mods and beacuse of this, its extremely hard to find a unpassworded server that has a lot of people (and therefore, a lot of fun). Sure we can play with 64 players, but realistically, will there ever be 64 players in a server with all those MODS out there? no. that's why I want BIS to fix the outdated infantry damage model and the skewed vehicle armor values. (so that it doesnt get replaced by like 10 mods claiming realism and thus screw up MP by making servers have 10-15 people at most).
-
luciano, i know youre pissed, and I am too. but BIS will fix these realism issues for sure. probably by the U.S. release as for soldiers dying with leg wounds, neither ArmA nor OFP had a medevac system, so basically they registered anything that would incapacitate the soldier (prevent him from fighting such as going unconscious, being unable to walk/crawl/move, but at the same time not dead) as a death. that's why they countered the unrealistic death from 2 leg wounds with an even more unrealistic but balancing feature- the medic that could heal any wounds in a matter of seconds. if you don't like it, then just don't buy it or make your own MODS. ArmA will have enormous potential once its released in the U.S. because i know many people who are anxious to get it (all of whom are experienced modders). Marek stated that they are working hard to get a MAJOR missing factor of infantry combat into the game for the 1.05 patch- hiding in grass. just give BIS a liddo bit more time and their patches will fix everything up. There will be hovering for the harriers for 1.05 also. As for arcadish tank combat...BIS sacraficed some realism for that because nobody wants to be a loader or nobody wants the game to be as complex as the new America's Army. There's a delicate balance between realism and arcade-ishness in ArmA and it's just right (minus a few correctable bugs and realism issues)
-
i see, but still..i think that the body armor/helmet thing should come w/ the game, you know? BIS knows what theyre doing and they have dedicated research staff and whatnot and it kinda feels "safer" for the average gamer whos never heard of a game like ArmA to play the normal game itself than a MOD created by someone in the community..u kno what im sayin? personally I dont really care but I'd like to see BIS give it a try in their U.S. release (which is where I'm located).

I've tried a few weapons on the Humvee and cannot penetrate to kill the guy inside. Can you give me the exact name of the rifles you want tested as I'm not sure which are .50 cal. No idea about your other two questions. the m107 and the russian equivalent (theyre both new sniper rifles introduced for the english version). for the armor values one, I meant that have the damage model for vehicles changed at all when compared to the german/czech/other earlier versions or are they still the same (HP system, somewhat unrealistic). for the soldier body armor question, I meant that does the new english version simulate the soldiers wearing their body armor? because in-game theyre wearing vests with plates but if you shot them with an mp5 in the chest/back they die in 1 hit  .
-
GUYS! SO LUCK YOU HAVE THE UK VERSION got a few questions for you lucky guys can the two .50 caliber sniper rifles penetrate the Humvee? have the armor values for vehicles changed? soldier body armor simulated? please someone answer!

dude, if someone takes your vehicle, blow him up or have ur teammates kill him.

is it possible to run this demo on a GeForce 2? I can run HL2 quite well with it but i remember seeing a page where a player with a GeForce 4 could not open Arma becuause of shader model 2 requirement. will i be able to play the demo
-
to the lucky guys who have ArmA: when an RPG hits the front of a truck does everyone else in the back die like they do in OFP? also, since this is a damage model thread, i might as well ask: how are the damage models on the soldiers? is there any function to the body armor that they are wearing?
-
wait was the last shot of the guys in woodland camo in-game?
-
hope you see this before it gets buried by 139471205 other posts how are the damage models for the vehicles and soldiers? theres been lots of talk about armor values and etc, so i'm curious
-
wow i'm going to be on the computer all day and all night i love u BIS too bad i live in the US i'll just hafta satisfy my arma needs with these screenshots keep the pics coming!!!1 Â Â

there's been talk of this before but there hasn't been a thread dedicated to this, so i'll start it. In OFP, the player could somewhat customize their soldier. The player could select the face of the soldier and voice. The player could also choose the weapons, ammo, and types of optical assistance (binoculars or nvg's). In ARMA, since many of the interviews mention that Sahrani has different climates and thus different terrain, I think that we should, in addition to being able to choose our weapons and optical aids, be able to customize the uniform that the soldier is wearing and have that affect the AI's ability to spot out enemy troops. Having just one color of camoflauge in an island with many types of terrain and two seperate climates wouldn't be a very calculated decision on the US army's part. Enabling the player to choose from the new ACU's in service with the US army would be much more believable IMO. In addition, i want to see the ability select whether or not body armor should be worn because it can save your life, especially from explosions, but impair mobility. Same for weapons; its more  realistic to be issued an m4 but have the ability to pick what you wanna put onto it (different types of scopes/sights, silencers, flashlights, grenade launcher) than to just choose from a pre-configured weapon loadout. For vehicles, I just wanna see the humvee with the armored plate in front of the gunner if hes manning a .50 cal because seriously, when was the last time we saw a humvee with a gunner completely unprotected (besides somalia)?what do u guys think about my ideas? edit: i know that it seems a little late for suggestions but i truly believe that these options should be in the game beacuse it gives the player much more freedom and many more possibilities
-
unfortunately i dont have any photo of the guy who didnt wear his vest or without his ACU, but i was watching CNN this august and they interviewed him and he explained why he and a couple of his mates chose not to wear his OTV. also, there are many clips of troops in iraq on guard duty without their ACU's but those are mainly in graphic clips you find on sites like ogrish (u can go see for yourself) and there are also many clips in the show "gunner palace" which aired on discovery military channel that showed the troops going on patrol in the early evening without their ACU's (just in their brown PT t-shirt).
-
well the faces/uniforms thread was more about importing user created content and user created content in general than it was about the ArmA that will be released soon. in iraq there are a few soldiers who choose not to wear their ACU, some also do not wear their body armor. if you look at the US soldier's weapons too, most of them have sights and grips and all these custom things that don't come with the issued weapon.
-
One thing that I'm not too sure about is if the damage models in AA will incorporate body armor. I'm not a modelling genius, so I don't know how it's done, but body armor should definitely be in this game because this game takes place during modern times and because many armies, especially the Americans, use it widely. There hasn't been much info on this, but If the models show the soldiers wearing body armor, and if the game takes place in modern times, an American soldier should definitely be wearing some form of protection other than a helmet (granted the soldiers of the "west" side are American, which they sure look like).
-
yeah i really wanna see that feature and i dont see why BI wouldn't incorporate it into arma...it shouldnt take too long & much more realistic
-
actually the backwards flag on the US uniforms is not a bug. IRL it's actually like that to represent the united states advancing forward, though on select uniforms (such as those of special operations soldiers) the blue and white stars are in the correct corner of the flag.

on the website that hosts the pictures there seems to be a review and a rating (3.5/5). is there anyone out there who can translate that?
