Operation Flashpoint. Operation Flashpoint. And... Operation Flashpoint.

    Russian pockets

Well, I don't mean pockets in the uniform but those kind om pockets that are placed outside the uniform with straps and stuff. In the swedish army we did have two such pockets (or pouches?) on the chest, and they were intended for ammo. While I was in the artillery they didn't care too muck for our personal firepower and gave us only one spare mag. That meant lots of space for cigarretes, candy bars and other useful gear. I just don't get the purpose of the Warshaw pact dude's set of four pockets. There's no way an AK mag could fit in there. And I don't understand where else to put it. I mean the Kalashnikov mag is quite large. And it is that shape too... Am I the only one who is silly enough to wonder?

    Russian pockets

Dear wise forum! I challenge your knowledge of worthless military knowledge with this problem: The soldiers from the eastern block have a row of pockets placed on their chests. I guess they are supposed to carry ammunition there. Now I just wonder, do they carry their Kalashnikov mags in there? I mean it seems kind of strange to me to store the AK's curved magazines in these totally straight pockets. Anyone knows?

    What is a "flashpoint"?

Don't throw rotten tomatoes at me for asking this: There is one thing has bugged me ever since I began to play OFP last summer. What the heck is a "flashpoint", and in what way is that phenomenon related to The Best Computer Game Ever? I have always thought that I would run across an answer to that question sooner or later, but apparently, I have not. Could someone please be kind to relieve me from my ignorance?

    The tasmanian devil is...

One theory on the identity of the Tasmanian Devil: In the cutscene in the beginning, when the soviet troops arrive to the island, there is a police officer who overlooks the invasion from a hilltop. He then drives away in his police jeep towards the countryside. This he does in a kind of determined way. He appears to be a guy who won't just sit back and let things happen. Therefore, -he turns into this "resistance's little helper" character. And, being a policeman, he has acess to radio equipment and such stuff. What do you think?

    Losing tem members in singleplayer

So it is like Ghost Recon then. With the exception that the Ghosts happen to be elite soldiers (who for some mysterious reason have not learned anything during their training and hence behave utterly stupid in combat). It makes more sence that regular citizens of Nogova needs some military experience to become proper soldiers.

    Losing tem members in singleplayer

OK, but how important is it to keep each and everyone alive? As an example, I have lost about six men and I am not even halfway through the Resistance campaign. Is it possible to win then or should I revert? I ask this question mostly because I don't like the idea of reaching the final missions without any possibility of succeeding. That would force me to play it all over again. AND even if OPFP is the most replayable game ever, a mission is always the best to play the first time. So, how many casualities can one accept?

    The watch...

The watch is right about the ONLY thing that works for me when I play resistance. My machine is too bad to give me some gameplay (must upgrade NOW). In resistance mission "Ammo low" (the first real resistance operation against the weapons-convoy) is a mission where the watch is of use. You know from the beginning that there is ten minutes to the arrival of the ruskies. Depending on time you can decide how much you can fiddle around with your men before they must lie still and await the bad guys.
  8. Everybody who does not have brand new monster-computers, read this: Resistance requires a LOT of work from your computer. With my Pentium III 800-something-CPU everything went splendid in the regular game, even with the detail level set to the max. I was aware that my one year old computer might not be able to use all the graphic enhancements in Resistance, but I thought that the graphics at least could appear like before. But, it doesn't. On my computer everything looks pretty ugly. I don't like it. Resistance is an expansion, not a new game. I can't afford to buy a new computer right now, even if I am desperate to do so! The minimum requirement is set to a Pentuim III 600. Let me tell you: You need WAY MORE brains to your computer than that!

Objective opf comparision to other games

Operation Flashpoint is the best. Way beyond any other game. Nevertheless there are some aspects of gameplay that are slightly better in other games: In Rogue Spear you have more opportunities to do things with the environment: You can rescue hostages, take prisoners, defuse bombs and break doors with explosives or shotgun (or you can silently manipulate the lock to open it). All of that is pretty fun. NOTHING in Ghost Recon is actually better. Some buildings and parts of the landscape have more details than OPFP, but that does not enhance the overall feeling. I bought Medal Of Honor Allied Assault some weeks ago, but I have allready gotten rid of it, I hated it. As far as I'm concerned, the only games a Flashpoint player needs other than OPFP is Rogue Spear. Is there anybody who has any other suggestions? What about Project IGI? It seems quite allright to me, but I have never played it. The english world war II game Hidden and Dangerous is a little bit nice, though. At least in Sweden is it sold really cheap nowdays, and it gives at least a couple of day's entertainig gaming. In one of the missions I had gotten my squad civilian clothes (that were hung out to dry) and then, when moving on a street, trying to stalk the germans, we all got rum over by a TRAM! That was cool.

    Danger! warning! beware!

"Push that thing in the middle, push that thing in the middle..." How was I supposed to know that? I am only 31 years old and have only spent six years at the university. Life should not be so difficult. I am very upset. Now i really feel the urge to blow things up. Time to grab some satchel charges and run amok.

    Danger! warning! beware!

Please notice this and take warning: The plastic box/ case/ envelope /whatever that the game CD-rom is delivered in is EVIL! Yesterday, when I was about to take out my disk in order to fulfill my playing desires, the goddamn CD gets stuck in the plastic in the middle and then CRACK! did my disk break in the middle. I most strongly advise everybody to store The World's Best Game in a safer way (i.e. not in the original box). If anybody wonders: Yes of course, I went directly to the store and bought a new copy after work today. 20 hours without Flashpiont is more than enough for me...

    The tress on ofp

The trees are good enough for me. They are not suberb, but this is not a botanist game, anyway. But think about the vehicles! They are just SO marvellous! Just look at Ghost Recon. There they look like shit! (Or is it my computer who is crappy?)

    W00t i wanna play russian!

Silencer: I agree. It's nice to kick some american ass once in a while. For starters, it's a break from the routine from any other games around. Then it also feels good when you come to think about Dresden, Korea, Vietnam, etc. etc.

    How crazy are you?

I'm a but curious on how other gamers have been affected by OPFP. For myself, I can confess that there was a time when i played the game in the morning before work. Then I went home at the lunchbreak to play some more. When the working day was over I ran home to do you-know-what. Looking forward to see other confessions from the community. And, one more thing; for me it took 6 month to get slightly bored with OPFP (I still love it, but anyway...) Ghost Recon took 2 weeks, Medal of Honor Allied Assault got pretty stale just after a couple of days...
