Why Iraq rejects 'smart' sanctions U.N. Vote Places 'Smart Sanctions' on Iraq Syrian representatives went along with the vote, but called again for all sanctions against Iraq to end, a position echoed by Russia's ambassador to the United Nations.

Why don't more media outlets talk about this import list ?The only thing I have seen about this import list is from cnn, that they can't import water pumps. So they have to drink dirty water.Which causes lots of problems. Now why don't they tell us about this other stuff ?

You can however guess at what price they are forced to purchase these things. I don't know what deranged individuals came up with such restrictions. Havn't they learned anything from history? Not only are they inhumane, but they also give Iraq a very good reason to try to break through from them, possibly out of desperation by a war.<span id='postcolor'> if iraq did that then they would have broken the sanctions thing.I would probably think U.S. would point that out,see how we want to bomb them.

And what is done with the 30 percent of the revenue that goes into the "compensation commission"? On June 25, the UN awarded almost $2.8 billion to several oil companies, including more than $500 million to a subsidiary of Texaco, Inc., for equipment and facilities that were damaged when the U.S. led a 43-day war against Iraq in 1991. These oil companies that make tens of billion dollars a year were paid out of the UN Compensation Commission." What year ?

The reason why I pointed out American companies is because you are condemning Saddam for having those weapons while you were the ones who gave them to him. It is the lack of moral consistency that I object to, not the actual weapons shipments (which of course was wrong too, but it wasn't ony USA that was involved in that).<span id='postcolor'> Just trying be fair, let other people think what they want.I was never saying US didn't help.I know we did when they was helping us get back at iran for that little embassy thing.I'm sure one day we going go war with another middle-eastern country that is helping us now.

Vets suing companies that help iraq with chemicals supplies.....MAybe this also already been posted. link some of what it sayss............ Neither American company listed -- Alcolac International, based in Baltimore, Maryland; and Al-Haddad Trading, based in Nashville, Tennessee -- are still in business. -- One of the largest alleged suppliers to Iraq's chemical program, according to Iraq's list, was the German company Karl Kolb. A spokesman for the company said it has done business with Iraq for 35 years, but he denied any connection to its weapons programs.

I think its sad that you can actually support other peoples misery the way you do, FSPilot. Hopefully one day you will actually travel outside of the US and see how it is like for real people in the real world and not base your opinions on political propaganda and newsclips. America has poor people also,it's not like every american is RiCh.We have homeless,we have hungry people.maybe not 3rd world countries style. But we do.Maybe you should come to the USA one day and see how it is, not what tv says it is. - They do get medicine, but i think if it could make an chemical weapons they do not give it to them.

Bombs gives power to words and paper.Without war, words and paper would mean nothing.Iraq signed a peace treaty saying they would do this and that. They never live up to it.Should the US just let it go and not worry about it ? If they did let it go ,words/treaty's  would mean nothing, atleast in 3rd countries. If words and papers didn't mean anything, then UN wouldn't mean anything. Also about opec.America companies love opec, they make more money because of them.

    The Iraq Thread

This could already been posted, but i don't feel like going back.... Link Here's some of what it says.... When the inspectors found documents they wanted copied -- which Al Basri said were mainly articles he had written and papers he considered inconsequential -- the scientist insisted on being present during the copying and refused to go to the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, which he said was not neutral ground. Eventually, copies were made at the hotel in Baghdad where the inspectors are staying, but Al Basri said the ordeal at the hotel took hours, with inspectors interrogating him until 6 a.m. He said the documents were noted in the 12,000-page weapons declaration that Iraq sent to the United Nations, but Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said the papers were not mentioned. The research they concern could have been applied to enriching uranium, ElBaradei said. Link 2 This one mentions what it had on the pages.... The documents were being analyzed by U.N. experts Sunday. "When we find material for chemical ammunition, we have to ask ourselves, "Is this just one find or are there more?'" Blix said. "When we find documents at a private house, we must ask ourselves, 'Are there more when they say there are no more documents?'" I have a question though,Is iraq in OPEC (which controls the oil output market)? IF they are, doesn't that mean even if america does control the country they have to follow what they say and if they don't lots of middle-east countries would get piss.
