Best way to get a helo to stay on the ground
essemm posted a topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hey folks. What's the best way to get a helicopter to wait until I get in before it takes off? I know how to use the "get in" and "load" waypoints and synchronisation, but that means that the helicopter must start up, move 3 feet to my position, re-land, and then allow me to load before heading off... I'd like the helo to start up as I move to it, but then wait until I'm on board to "synchronise". Any help? -
What I'mdoing is killing myself with a 'nade, and then clicking "abort". Then, when I want to restart, I click on "Resume" from the load screen, and it CTD's. I'm still playing it, because it's simply an awesome add-on. I just have to restart it all the time.
-
It is impossible for me to exit this "mission" without a CTD. I even tried the "blow myself up" method...no dice. Arrg!
-
I've got an issue with this: Whenever I try and quit (after saving using the radio), I hit Escape, and then hit Abort...the game autosaves...which, of course, causes a CTD when I try and reload it. How do I get around this?

Armed Assault is missing quite a few basics

No no. Don't be fooled...it is you who is the idiot. Don't be so hard on a guy who had a few questions. Sheesh -
Playtesting - SP Airborne Airfield Seizure

Excellent mission. It was a bit frame-intensive for my old PC (AMD 2.3GHz and Radeon x800 pro), but it was playable and an enormous amount of fun. It really gave me that "all hell has broke loose" feeling. I managed to make it through only having to load once (but I was quite cautious). *Very* good mission. I'd give it a 9/10. -
Hey folks. Is it possible to use the addweapon command to a civilian? I can't seem to get it to work...

Never mind. Got it to work. DARNED "" MARKS!!!

I'll help you out Raz0rx: 1st: Create a unit: you. In the initialisation field, type: this moveInCargo chopper1; this assignAsCargo chopper1 2nd: Create a helicopter and call it "chopper1" (in the name field) note: make sure the helo and you are not in the same group 3rd: Place an invisible H on the spot where you want the helo to set you down (if you look under Empty -> objects, invisible H should be there) 4th: Set a waypoint for the helo on the invisible H, and make sure the waypoint type is "Cargo Unload" 5th: set a waypoint for yourself there, and make sure the type is set to "get out. 6th: Then, synchronise chopper1's Unload waypoint and your Get Out waypoint by selecting "Synchronise" in the tool bar on the right and drawing a line connecting the two. Try it out. It should work.

It's never a good idea to upgrade simply for one game. Besides that, the video card you have isn't that great. It will, however, play ArmA...but you have to set it to the correct settings. Try tweaking it a bit to find the optimal settings.

Hmmm. What should I say? Well, I guess I agree that *as it is right now*, the game is lackluster. Bugs? Yup. Graphics glitches? Yup. AI issues? Well...maybe. But that said, I love it, and I am going to love it for a long time. Why? Because, at the end of all the whining and fanboy-ing, after the dust has settled, there will remain a dedicated group of ArmA simulation fans that will make this a great simulation. I don't mind the bugs and the issues. Why? Well because I see ArmA for what it is: a great springboard. What happens if (when?) companies like BIS are forced out of business because giants like EA and Ubisoft push out mass-produced, non-supported boring games like Need for Speed XXX, simply because it makes them $$$? We suffer...that's what. And I don't want that to happen. I've already seen it happen to the flight sim market, which I used to absolutely love. I don't want it to happen here. Yes, BIS are after money as well...we all are (at least those of us in a Capatalist society). But at the end of the day, BIS are producing a game that is more about giving back to the community as opposed to making some quick millions and then sodding off to mass-produce the next bland, cross-platform junk that is polluting gamespace these days. Yeah, it's kinda stinky right now, and yes I would prefer it if the game developers were present on the boards, but I am willing to deal with it in the hope that this game will become what I think it will. @paco454: I agree with you (except the class action suit). I feel bad for you and if you decide to leave the community, we will be worse off for not having you here with us. But I would completely understand if you leave ArmA and never return. If you can just stick it out a while longer...mark my words...it will be worth it. It's like democracy: it's advanced citizenship...you gotta want it bad. Even when you've lost your job to downsizing, and you're standing face to face to a guy decrying at the top of his lungs that which you have spent a lifetime advocating at the top of yours: it's a tough road, and it's not for everybody. But those who stay can experience an amazing thing. If you don't stay Paco, I hope you *do* get your money back, and hope that you find a game which entertains you. I for one am staying right here: in with the bugs and crashes and fanboys and whiners. It's gonna be great!

Hey folks. Let's say I create an MH6 helicopter unit, and name it chopper1. I have chopper1 fly a few waypoints, and then I would like to get the helo to land and the pilot to get out and go to a certain spot. I can get the pilot out with a "Get Out" waypoint, and I can then set a move waypoint. But then, I'd like to have a trigger that will send the pilot back to the helo to do some more flying. How do I then address the pilot? Is the pilot then called chopper1?

Dude....THAT RULES!! I absolutely love it. Love it love it love it!!!

What's a funkmenue? And how do install this script? The instructions are all in German (I knew I should have paid more attention in German class!!!

Hey folks. I'm trying to get an AI helo to go to a waypoint and wait for me to complete my mission, whereupon, I will call the helo to come pick me up (with a radio trigger). I've got it *almost* working, but I can't seem to get the helo to shut off it's engine. This is what I've got for the initialisation for the land waypoint: <span style='color:blue'>chopper1 stop true; chopper1 flyInHeight 0; chopper1 engineOn false; chopper setFuel 1;</span> ###where chopper1 is the name of the helicopter Then' I've got a trigger set with this code: <span style='color:blue'>chopper1 engineOn true; chopper1 stop false; chopper1 flyInHeight 40</span> It all works, except the <span style='color:blue'>chopper1 engineOn false</span> bit. The helo just doesn't want to shut off his engines... Any help?

Hey raedor. I think that makes the pilot get out of the chopper though...doesn't it?

Hey folks. Anybody know if somebody is working on a rappelling script for ArmA? I know there is one for OFP, but I'm not sure if it will work with ArmA. S
-
Cool...that website is great! I hope lots of those scripts work for ArmA. Yeah, I agree that this post should be moved...I haden't inteded for it to be as "scripting" focused as this, thought it was something I could do with the commands menu in game. I guess not. Cheers guys. I've also found a rappel script at OFPEC under the scripts area. Can't wait to get home and try it!

Hi folks. I've created a mission where I have an MH6 and myself. I would like the MH6 to drop me behind enemy lines, so that I can do a bit of sniping. How do I get the MH6 to land using the command menu in-game? I don't want to fuss with waypoints and all that, I would like to just get in the chopper, order him to a spot, and then get him to set her down so that I can get off. Likewise...is it possible to fast-rope or rappel from the helos? Cheers, SM
-
Because I'm new, and have no idea how to do that Anybody know if there is a mission editing tutorial website out there. I could use the help...
-
Ahhh, that worked. Now how do I release chopper1 so that he is free to take more commands? Now, is it possible to fastrope or rappel?
-
Appreciate the help JW, but that doesn't seem to work. Number 1: it doesn't like the _ at the beginning of heli...says something about "local variable in global". Secondly, it automatically wants to expand heli to helicopter. Man, this should be easier...

Hey folks. I was in the Canadian Army reserves a few years back, and have qualified on all of the weapons (or at least their Canadian equiv), and can honestly say that firing them while standing is very hard. It would be nearly impossible to fire the 240 from the standing because the weapon is so heavy. You would never fire a weapon while moving unless you are at VERY close quarters (under 15 meters). You just wouldn't hit anything. This includes the M249 SAW. Sorry to burst the bubble, but accuracy and moving don't mix.

I'm not sure why all kinds of people are dissing ArmA. I've played a friend's copy tonight, and I absolutely loved it. I probably won't do what he did and buy the German copy, but I will buy it when it comes out here in the UK in the spring. Sure, it's a bit graphically intensive, but no more so then GRAW, and I love the new interface. Love it. Absolutely love it.
