  1. Nice pics sniper, daddl. I'm not a huge fan of flower macros in general but the first from sniper is nice and simple. I just got my 10-22mm lens in the mail today, need to find some time on the weekend to play with it. USM is such a treat when you are used to noisy autofocus!
  2. i'm starting to feel like my Sigma 18-200mm lens is a bit too slow and looking around at some options. Â i still really like having a single lens for travel, but it's just not cutting it and i'm stuck with either noise or blur from camera shake. Â i could stop drinking coffee but i don't want to. Â At the same time, I'm also interested in a wider angle lens, possibly a fixed focal length crazy-wide lens. Â Can anyone throw some ideas out there? Â I wouldn't spend more that $1K on one lens. i'm half thinking of upgrading to the new 18-200mm optical stabilization Sigma, it sounds like it would fix most of what I find wrong with the current non-stabilized lens, as I don't do a lot of fast action stuff. On the wide side, a Sigma 8mm f3.5 looks like it could be fun, and not that expensive really. Â There have been a few times where 18mm just wasn't wide enough. Â Anybody use one on cameras with ASP-C sized sensors? Edit: 8mm would most likely be overkill and used very rarely, i think a Canon 10-22mm would be a better choice, so 10mm to 200mm with two lenses... not too bad.
  3. RTM animations exist outside of the character model (anims.pbo), and they only work properly for a character that exactly matches the same size as the bind pose from which those rtms were produced. If you scale down a character model, you will see strange results when trying to animate it with adult sized RTMs, esp in the head and hands where it would be most offset. The whole animation set would need to be rescaled too, which is no small task.

    Russian Marines & VDV

Thanks guys, SR-47 is right. Â Those were the good old days. Â I probably have everything backed up somewhere but haven't looked at any of it for years. Â I finally learned to do config files myself too :-P I'm always around but rarely get time for personal addons anymore. Â There are a few things on the backburner that I would love to return to when time allows, however. Â But we shouldn't derail the VDV and Naval Infantry thread too much. Â Keep up the nice work!

I always liked the 1P29. Â These source images came directly from NPZ Optics when I emailed them asking for reference. http://www.baconbomb.com/img/reticle.jpg http://www.baconbomb.com/img/reticle_1.jpg Feel free to re-use what you can and want from the MAP 1P29. I don't think the model is worth much now but the optic should still be useable.

Nice, second one is the best. You're right, it's NZ on the Abel Tasman coast track. Holidays were far too short, and I saw far too little of the country.

    Second Life

I just heard on the radio that Sweden is setting up an embassy in Second Life. http://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/27/sweden_to_be_first_c.html It makes me sad.

Txalo... amazing. Killagee, the photo of the runway appoach is the best! Of the band pics, I like the wide one the most, maybe because it's the most abstract. And you'll need a time machine to get to czechoslovakia ;-)

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

That's funny, i found mine was running happy as bob. But I also recommend it, exactly because it's good enough to enjoy all current titles but also conserve a bit of money while waiting for 2nd gen DX10 cards to become affordable, all the while hoping that PCIE remains the standard.

Look, there is absolutely no reason why Kerry would deliberately insult soldiers serving in Iraq. Â The moderates and conservatives unhappy with TBA are exactly the people that democrats needed to appeal to, and the purpose was to point out that leadership led the US into an operation that is falling apart. Â There is no political gain by insulting troops on the ground. Â Good grief, please, think about it! Â He served in combat too, remember? Â Of course he was trying to insult Bush and his top staff. Â It was a prepared joke, badly botched, and jumped on immediately by scared Republicans with no better ideas about how to turn the tide right before the elections. Check comment #49 at that link.

For real? Â What about Rumsfeld? Â He's the guy Bush says is doing a fantastic job, and who will maintain his position in TBA, and who personally designed the plan that has too few people in Iraq for a reasonable chance of success. The same guy they talk about here: http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-2333360.php Meanwhile: Jubilant Iraqis carry a flag of Iraqi militia Mahdi Army and a national flag after US troops dismantled checkpoints around Baghdad's Shiite enclave of Sadr City Tuesday Oct. 31 2006. Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Tuesday ordered the lifting of joint U.S.-Iraqi military checkpoints around the Shiite militant stronghold of Sadr City and other parts of Baghdad Stay the course indeed. Â Who will put more troops in, three years late, when Rumsfeld is the one responsible for ignoring sound advice from intelligent, qualified people about the number of soldiers needed in the first place? Â Will he admit to any mistakes? Â Can Bush concede that the man is a failure and get rid of him, or is he just too afraid to admit that any of his own decisions could have been wrong?

Also, Kerry's comments were ambiguous, but it's quite clear now that his comment was never intended to insult anyone serving the the armed forces, but rather a lowblow against Bush, personally. Â No suprise that they chose to interpret it in the worst possible way. Â As usual, it's left up to the public to make an honest effort to get the truth. Bush isn't dying for anyone's country.

I think there needs to be a distinction between NeoCons and TheoCons operating under the NeoCons banner (and Perle just pulled the rug out from under them) Neocon v. Theocon by Jacob Heilbrunn. He wrote, "The neoconservatives believe that America is special because it was founded on an idea—a commitment to the rights of man embodied in the Declaration of Independence—not in ethnic or religious affiliations. The theocons, too, argue that America is rooted in an idea, but they believe that idea is Christianity." It's about time for this administration to run out of steam anyway.

More Photos Surface in Widening German Skull Scand

-edit- removed non-persuasive link I don't think we need to distance oursevles too much from the animal world to create some kind of self importance. Â Taking a photo of yourself with someone else's skull next to your unit as some way to show off to friends is a rather good example of self-awareness, isn't it? I don't think the argument here is about a difference between "human" and "animal" behaviour. But instead just disrespect for the values held by a large majority of people (regardless of ones own opinions) that the remains of the dead are not toys for personal amusement.

sedlec ossuary near prague.. tourist attaction. Â mockery? reverence? Â space-saving technique? art? sure, i can see the differences, but we might all choose to measure the distance differently. Â and this one? well, i think there's more important things to worry about right now. Â as somoeone already pointed out, atrocities against the living are meanwhile being ignored, it's not interesting news.

Reality vs. Myth, Fantasy & Legend.

Hi. No. I meant historical fiction. If it's historical fact, I guess you are watching a documentary and you don't get to make any choices, and so it's then not really a game. Historical fiction is a genre of writing that takes place in a well-researched and historically accurate environment where the main character may not have actually lived, or whose words and actions may not be based on archival information. For example, Space by James A Michener, which is an accurate historical account of the space program, but the 7 main characters are fictional, their characters, words and actions only loosely based on 7 real astronauts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_fiction And, by the way: http://www.australiansinvietnam.com/ I've never said they wouldn't be successful, in fact, I'm definitely included in the demographic that would enjoy the hell out of such a game. I spend most of my bandwidth grabbing documentaries, sometimes run them in the background while I'm working. Just don't wait on EA. It's nice when someone comes along, takes the time to develop something new that pushes boundaries, and generates a market for a game that nobody really thought of before. Flashpoint comes to mind.

Reality vs. Myth, Fantasy & Legend.

Accurate historical fiction would be quite a niche market in the video games industry, not to mention needing a niche developer that isn't under pressure to pump stuff out and tune the content to appeal to the typical gamer. Â Imagine the research needed to build all the details realistically. Â I think it would actually be fun, but it's unlikely to happen without a really tenacious developer that can stave off the publishers who will inevitably try to add some "zing". hahah, on the first page of google image search for zing to prove my point: http://s116760103.onlinehome.us/Zing.jpg
