Well if you have played study sims like Falcon 4 then you will know that it is possible to simulate military systems to a high degree. Of course the F-16 modelled in Falcon 4 is a slightly older version and most of the information was declassified and thus obtainable. I've seen some great interior pictures of the SA-6 system recently on a website and the person who took them is going to give me some information on the operation of these systems. The lucky guy is actually going to take part in a live exercise in these systems! So this kind of information, while hard to find, is not impossible to obtain

I was at FAS yesterday It has great background information but it doesn't go into enough detail. I need enough information to simulate some of these systems to the level of a study sim, like Falcon 4. Right down to the function of individual switches.

Where can I get detailed information on SAM systems? I'm planning to simulate a few and would like as much information as possible like interior pictures, how the radar operates, target acquisition and tracking e.t.c. I searched on google for the fan song that controls the S-75 Dvina ( SA-2 Guideline ) but only managed to find basic information.

I can play for hours sometimes with no incident. Other times I crash to desktop after five minutes. Don't know whether it's something in the recent patches or my hardware or mods as the crashes seem completely random. If there are people here who play online alot and have never crashed then at least the patch itself can be eliminated as a a cause.

I turned up the view distance to 5000 (detail auto set itself to low when i did this ) then went into Ground Attack simple mission.  Ran around ok at about 16-20fps.  Was nice to climb to 1300 and still see the ground.  So went back in and set detail to high.  1 fps and hard disk was thrashing so I knew virtual memory was being used  I gave up waiting for it to finish loading the high detail textures and quit.  When I checked Task Manager's Commit Charge area, peak usage was 1.3 Gigabytes    I have a Barton XP3000+( 2500+ @ 2.16GHz ), 512MB, GF4 TI4200 system running Windows 2000 Professional. Since the relatively slow virtual memory seems to be the biggest contributor to the dismal frame rate, I'm interested in hearing what kind of frame rates are attained by people with 1.5Gig+ of ram.

I installed the explosion mod yesterday. Can you believe I never knew ofp had smoke and explosion effects lol I think when i first started playing it i unchecked it because my computer was a lowly duron. Now I have an XP3000+ so this time I left it enabled and nearly fell off my seat. Having said that the smoke obscures targets so I'd probably leave it off so as not to be at a disadvantage online

I installed Cold War Crisis then immediately installed Resistance and patched it to 1.91. Today I tested it out in single player mission Ground Attack. Got in chopper and blew up the ambulance at base and got error message saying "Cannot load missions, missing addon: burningfire" I click it and I can continue playing. Are there any critical files that get updated by the cold war patches and are used when playing resistance?

My pet peeve is that blasted radio target / target box stuff. Like a few minutes ago I was playing Battlefield 1985. I was approaching a checkpoint and there was very little cover then I heard the dreaded roar of an abrams approaching so I got down fast behind the only tree near me. Tank stops, it's about 30 metres from my position so I can't run for it. I hear the whirring sound of the commander looking around then BOOOM, a Sabot round sends me into orbit. This is why I prefer to play coop, where stealth actually counts for something.

LMAO! I did the digital vibrance thing. thx for the tip everything is more colorful now but the sky still looks like an 8 bit texture albeit brighter. I know bf1942's sky is just a static bitmap but it looks way better.
-
hmm interesting any chance you have a small picture of how your blue sky looks in ofp? Thanks

Looks like an 8bit texture. I've tried everything I can to make it look better on a GF4 Ti4200 but no joy. My friend said it was beautiful on a GF3 but got uglywhen he moved to a GF4.

2 m/s 3 m/s? Just curious

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">yea falcon 4 was nice but it was far too time consuming had like 1000 keybaord shortcuts and took me 30mins to learn how to drop a bomb and got told off for being 30seocnds early to obj once, falcon 4s audience is much smaller than ofp, if ofp had that level of realism i reckon much less ppl would play ofp due to having to know tooo much, falcon 4s manual was very very thick. <span id='postcolor'> These kinds of sims are called "study sims" for a reason I prefer to click the dials on the 2D cockpit as opposed to remembering tons of shortcuts, find it far more immersive. Anyway both OFP and Falcon 4 have different modes  so you can configure it as arcadey as you want.  They appeal to all gamers.  OFP is touted as a realistic game but so many public servers I've encountered have 3rd person view on, friendly tags e.t.c. Choice is good
