@Walker You make some pretty valid points about being first to market. With regard to Big oil , we have to remember that although petroleum and Diesel are big money earners for the oil companies they are infact almost a by product of their main purpose. That is to supply the the basic chemical components for their biggest customers - the chemical companies who produce plastics. We do after all live in the age of plastic. The oil companies may lose out on fuel sales but would maore then make up for it in the new markets that open up with the increased use of high polymer plastics in vehicle manufacture and chassis design as the car builders try to make the strongest and lightest chassis possible to get the most from the battery technolgies that they use. I agree that hot swap batteries are the key to successful E-cars. Of course the problem then becomes the production of electricity in a clean way. Perhaps this is where aftrica could benefit by setting up large scale PV capture sites in unpopulated areas and become exporteers of power to Europe. After the initial investment it would then be low cost power generation that is clean and the income culd be used to improve their lot -

Hi guys, Have a few Qs for the 3DS Gurus among us. 1. Can we use Substance Procedural Textures for models to be used in ARMA2? 2. Does using Substance Procedural Textures in a model convey any advantages/disadvantages for models intended for use in-game.? 3. Do they cause any problems when importing the model to O2 or once imported while working in O2? 4. Is there any quality degradation/improvement to the resulting in game rendering vis a vis frame rates etc? Asking as they seem to provided a size advantage over using bitmaps and any size advantage is a thing to be sought after -

@Tonci87 They can and will. The main issue with the take up of electric cars with the public is not the cost but is their range. Although most ppl only average 200 - 300 miles per week in a car they still want the abiility to go greater distances when they want. Most of the current small to mid size family cars are capable of exceeding 500 miles on a single tank. When you compare that to a range of 100 miles on average for electric cars, that is what puts ppl off. For instance if I wanted to go to the nearest IKEA I would have a round trip of over 350 miles, very doable in a petrol/diesel car in the same day but current electric (only) models mean I would have to arrange an overniight stay and a recharging point for the car. Not very practical at all. So EV manufacturers will happily introduce new tech regardless of the expense in order to increase the appeal of their product. -

Thanks jaghetan Cool, use them within max and then convert there before export to O2. Nice, as they seem an excellent way to get some pretty good textures onto models. -

Hi Icebreakr Don't know if this will help you any, but found it on the wiki VIEW Geometry This LOD is used for AI view occlusion – what can the AI soldier see. It is also used for occlusion detection for scene drawing optimisation. WARNING: If there is no component in view or fire geometry, players cursor will be not able to activate action menu (for example climb ladder) -

Hi guys Just installed 3ds max 2012 and seem to have made a boo boo somewhere. When I try to create anything, a box say, all I get where the box should be are 3 lines at each corner but nothing else. Have I pressed something and not realized. any ideas how to get my box back. Been at this for 2 hours now and starting to feel like a right mong

Thanx Max, must have hit the o key at some point and not noticed. I can now see my box and the 7 teapots that are all over the place. so taking that as a sign and off for a cuppa. thanks to 1 and all for the help

@Baff1 From your post , I will presume that you are not a UK national and are probably therefore unaware that during the 2005 G8 summit (held in Scotland) London was subjected to several bombings on 7 July 2005. In these attacks 52 people were murdered by people claiming to be jihadists. They were on the whole British born nationals but of Pakistani descent. Pakistan is fighting the USA. It is conducting socio-political and economic "warfare" against the US for regional dominance. Pakistan finds itself in a very unenviable position. She finds herself surrounded by two extremely powerful and ideologically opposed Nation states. India to the East, a nation that outnumbers her by 7/1 and Iran to the West, a shi' ite muslim state that has pretensions of granduer, who although is currently looking westwards (within the middle east) to increase it's heggemony could at any point turn round and cause a bit of a problem to say the least. Therefore Pakistan is attempting to increase its chances by controling the region where-ever she can. This of course is leading to clashes with the current US administraions desire to control that part of the world. Pakistans relation with the US is more a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and is a marriage for public(world opinion) image convienience more than anything else. It should also be remember that the military in Pakistan are not just a buch of squaddies defending the country but a rather large corporate entity with its fingers in many commercial pies. Therefore Pakistan has too much to lose in any shooting war with the US and will use all other available means it can muster to destabalise US efforts while appearing to support them in public and privately attempting to bolster its own position -
