    Hurricane Katrina!

Well, I don't mind medical supplies, field water treatment facilities, THW, BW Pios etc... You can have it, we don't need it atm (next flood in eastern Germany should occur around October). But why for haven's sake did America demand oil from our strategic resources first?

Those trucks are fuel injected. It's perfectly safe to run them as deep as the snorkel will go. Yes, for example the Unimog has a fording depth of 1200mm/47.24" -- the limit is set by the outlet of the pressure control valve of the hydraulic-pneumatic brake system. *remembersBundeswehrDrivingSchool* Hey, go away with SUVs. If ever I'd buy one of these: But back on topic: Where do the pictures come from? Got comrades over there?

    Hurricane Katrina!

The downside is that hydrogene is a) difficult to handle (cooled down liquid or dissolved as metal hydrids), b) a supply chain is not established yet and c) the engines exhaust water vapour, one of the worst greenhouse gases. But you are right, would be good. It would be even better if the hydrogen would be generated using algae and bacteria and sunlight instead of using oil as it is done today. Meanwhile LiPoly cells are getting better and cheaper, so we could combine them with thin-film solar cells to power an electric car. Put a small electric motor at each wheel and a battery pack in the engine compartment. That should do for most people.

    Hurricane Katrina!

Well, the US are living an expensive life. Gas prices (91 RON, cheapest non-diesel) here in Germany (similar in neighbouring countries): 1.38 EUR/litre = 1.72 $US/litre = 6.51 $US/usgal! What's the average price in the US? And now the US -- wasting oil/gas like hell, world champion regarding greenhouse gas emissions -- are demanding the international community to spend some of their strategic reserves to avoid problems with the US energy supply. Not that there are more important things to fix first... ...like establishing a working supply chain of water/food for the victims in New Orleans, ...restore peace, ...rebuild the dams, ...pump dry the city, ...fight back epidemics (you'll get some for sure regarding the water quality at the moment: typhus, cholera and the like) ...and most important: get those people out of the muddy, slimy, polluted water! But nooooo, one of the first things we hear: "Want oil. Your oil." *shakeshead* Live with it, your gas prices will climb, even without further catastrophes. Better you learn how to not waste energy now. This way W. can concentrate on helping the hurricane victims. Put it on a poster: "Uncle Sam needs YOU! Save gas and electricity to help our buddies down there in the southern states!"

    Another London Bombing

Kill everyone who walks in silly clothes? There are other people who do not want to run into police/security: fare dodgers, thiefes, illegal immigrants... Shoot 'em all for reasons of precaution? Well, then Bin Ladin has already won. -- Well, normally police uses 9+mm pistols. Ammunition which should stop people with shock (kinetics, impact of deforming bullet) and awe (accustics: bang; pain). Death of victim is possible (artery hit), but not intended (ok, if you go for the head there is little chance of survival left). Plus this kind of ammo should stick to the body to avoid hitting innocent bystanders. I wonder why apparently nobody seems to have heard of dead-man-switsches yet? With such devices a headshot does not better the situation in any way... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_man_switch -- Eh, I thought pistol/submachine ammo was generally subsonic? Good old 9mm? Or did the police rearmed recently?

    Lightsaber Home video?

Nothin beats http://theforce.net/fanfilms/ How to make light sabers? I'd guess like George did: Fight around with some sort of sticks and add the glow as an overlay in post-production. Easiest but also labour intensive: Split your movie into frames and paint over the sticks in every frame with a paint program of your choice. Cinepaint (http://cinepaint.sourceforge.net/) might do, since some studios use or even contribute to it.

How often do you (still) play OFP

I don't play it atm. Little time (diploma) and I'm tired of rebooting the box to start up Win98 just to play OFP...

Perhaps I can create a lat/long-to-pix converter (in MATLAB/Ovtace?) with a transformation matrix for each continent resp. submap; Plus integration of web access to map24.com/mapquest? P.S.: Just learning (wx)Python and QT; one could do a GUI for the Locator (point'n'click on the map to position pin)...

    BF2 Criticism and Thoughts

EA is fighting their own customers... it would be fine if the customers would bring in the ultimate weapon: boycott. But sadly that will not happen. Instead of insisting on certain customer rights the major part will bite the bullet -- see the case "HL2/Steam". So the game market is truly dead... Well, more time to earn money! P.S.: EULAs are null and void in Germany. So what?

    BF2 Criticism and Thoughts

Just in case of misunderstanding: CLI = command line interface (switch BF2 resolution to 1280x1024) The trolls over there at the heise.de-forums tell you all time that only linux users fiddle with the CLI... Anyway, python is advancing, hmm? Saw it first time while working with a dSpace system.

Wow, so much "code hacking" and CLI-usage for a Windows demo game! Creating a new kernel yesterday was easier... SCNR

    BF2 Criticism and Thoughts

We are talking about a vector-based DirectX game, right? (O dear, another one which will never be ported...) So the task of rasterisation (vectors -> pixels) is up to Direct3D's transformation algorithms. Iirc you can pass certain parameters like resolution, aspect ratio, field of view etc. to the object at construction/init time. So where's the problem? (except for slight gameplay advantages regarding gamers with cinemascope screens ). Another one from the thread: Although I know the rule of "don't discuss other forums" I have one question. Why is the first solution to fix a buggy game "get new graphics drivers"? Major program development took place long ago, so why should an update of graphics drivers cure bugs? This question is unanswered since last millenium...

    Real life photography/photo editing

Photo taken back then when weather was better (Ixus V2; size reduced): road in our outback And finally, CG is getting closer to reality... Just did an update of my racer version, jumping to version 0.5.2 beta 8.9: Mercedes-Benz CLK (DTM); Barcelona (Evening Edition) Mercedes-Benz CLK (DTM); Spa (Athlon 2500+, ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe, 512 MB, Gentoo Linux, 2.6.8; screen size slightly reduced to save bandwidth)

Same with Red/Green in the 1990s. The demographic factor (regarding the calculation of pension contribution) was dismissed by Red/Green. Nowadays Schröder admits that this refusal was a fault. A black opposition blocks a red government, a red opposition blocks a black government. Result: deadlock (perhaps "deadly embrace" fits, too). --- FDP? They say they're liberals, but in the end they follow the stronger party. I.e. SPD in the 60s/70s, CDU in the 80s/90s. Greens? They arrived in reality, finally; sadly. Rotation principle in personnel policy? Abandoned. Separation of office and mandate? Abandoned. What remains is another mainstream party with a slight save-the-nature touch. And I feel that Schröder tries to get rid of them with his reelection announcement...

http://www.iuscomp.org/gla/statutes/GG.htm "Human dignity is inviolable." German Basic Law, Article 1 Freedom of expression is granted in Article 5. Article 1 > Article 5. Therefore you can't misuse "free speech" to violate "human dignity". Plus Article 18 states that if one does misuse basic civil rights like free speech "in order to combat the free democratic basic order shall forfeit these basic rights". Plain english: Talk freely about fighting the republic and you find yourself sedated by the Federal Constitutional Court. But there's allways a catch. Personally I don't like part 2 of the Freedom-of-Expression article: Personal honour, ok. But limiting a civil right by general law? It's easier to change general law than to make an ammendment to the basic law... -- Atm I face two big parties who combat these basic rights to fight terrorism. That's why I can't vote for CDU or SPD. The whole western political system shifts right because of 9-11, therefore I've to shift left --regarding the frame of reference-- to maintain center position. PDS? WASG? I don't know...

Well, all power to the market? It's fun to see how social rights -- implemented over decades as a result of social progress -- are dumped for an "effective market". How people who are affected by this stab each others into their backs... Just one remark: People with less free time and less money will consume less -- choking the internal market...

You should have compared the correct articles. Nice Art.153 (ensure) --> Constitution Art.II-98 (shall ensure, very fuzzy) + Art.III-235 (howto ensure) Differences are marked bold... Differences: * union -- community (nomenclature in context of constitution/treaty) * provision -- measure (passive/active? Guess we'll need a lawyer for this one) * laws -- Council (Constitution states laws after consultation of Committee, treaty states Council after consultation of Committee and following Art.251 [howto adopt an act]) * establishment and functioning -- completition * Art.153,2 is absent in the Constitution. Perhaps it's built into another article? Can someone locate it? I felt free to compare Art.III-172 Constitution and Art.95 Nice regarding consumer protection: Differences: * "will" and "shall" are quite different modal verbs...

Ok, you provided the link, I cross-checked it. Where is "putting out of play" stated? Earlier links of pro-constitution articels given by Donnervogel focused on "more fields of participation" and only small changes... Now I wonder if you really read the treaties you urged me to read... http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex....01.html
