Need editing advice for hostage rescue
drkhrt532 posted a topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hey All! ok, im doing a spec op mission where u rescue a hostage or 2 ........now lets say the player screws up the rescue and the hostage gets killed, i want to make a trigger that will end the mission should the hostage die. any ideas? P.S. i would like triggers only, i dont like doing scripts ( im a simple guy) -
yea no joke...if you wanna do a prop drivien plane do a skyraider with some napalm and white phospherous bombs and rockets
-
dammit, i thought you were talking about the Corsair of the vietnam years..... *sighs* i need to learn my planes hehe well if youre gonna do dogfights....what about the Raye fighter....or as the americans called it, the Mitsubishi Zero?? gotta have an opponent ya know well if was gonna do a WW2 fighter addon, id do the P-47d; better known as the "Jug" who wouldnt fall in love with it?? its the A-10 of the 1940's!! it can take a hole in the wing big enough to put 2 men through, and also sports eight 50 cal machine guns *drool* enough of my ranting
-
That would be a good addon.....they called it the bird dog......i think that would make a great mission....being a FAC (foward air controller) pilot. You would fly around, keeping in contact with ground patrols, calling in gunships and fast movers for air support, locating downed pilots and such......could be another good aviation mission (*wink, wink* cumboy)

those new helicopters for the vietnam pack are out at the editing center but it wont let me download!! grrrr...... anyone else have a problem???

hey yall, drkhrt rant.............. The A-4 does have ground attack capeabilities...although not like the ground attack capeabilities of todays F-15E or F/A-18....the whole idea of the A-4 was to make a fast attack aircraft hence the "A" in A-4; "A" is the designate for "attack". Like i mentoned, the A-4 was used alot for AAA and SAM suppression because of its high speed, (over 600 miles an hour, fast for an attack plane.) small size (about half the size of an F-4 Phantom) and heavy armament (twin 20mm cannons pluss rocket and bomb load out) as for ground attack capeabilities, when you consider the timeframe, it was quite advanced. it was designed in the 1950's and one had to use the old fashioned mark 1 mod 0 eyeball to spot the enemy on the ground........of course, it could carry some AIM-9 sidewinders for defence, but it mostly relied on its twin 20mm cannons......some of the pilots in vietnam called the A-4 the "last of the gunfighters" because of its emphasis on guns over missiles. But yes, the A-4 has attack capeabilities....it cant pick out a tank at night in the desert like an A-10 or F-15E (unless you cheat and use the Maverick's onboard camera:)) but given it has a good enough pilot, it can chew up almost anything on the ground or in the air.
-
hey all another drkhrt rant.... yes the A-4 did carry Mavericks, but that was only in the later years.....however it did carry other guided air to surface missles such as the old school "bullpup". But I'm trying to concentrate on the vietnam years...... the A-4 of the mid to late 1960's could carry up to 3,500 pounds of ordenance. In vietnam during the time of operation rolling thunder, the bombing of north vietnam, the Skyhawk would many times play the vital role of AAA and SAM suppression alongside the Corsair and Crusader. Much of the time it carried LAU and Zuni rockets and its twin Mk 12 20mm cannons. it also carried bombs as well, most of the time using Mk-82 500 pounders, the Mk-82 snake-eye high drag bomb were also popular..........hell im thinkin on doin a campaign myself using the skyhawk......its a very well made addon.....what i want, like most others, is an aircraft carrier, perhaps the USS Ranger?? but then again those things are monolithic to say the least and we still need a tailhook on the Skyhawk.......can you imagine trying to land one in this game on a carrier? its hard enough to land an A-10 on a runway, let alone a small fighter on the pitching deck of a carrier.......although i could FINALLY put my carrier deck crew addon to work perhaps ill use the skyhawk as a marine campaign and fly from an airfield. well thats it, hope you history buffs enjoyed

A realism issue that seriously needs addressed..
drkhrt532 replied to Warship NWS's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
i totally agree about the gunners and helos......but i think that RPG's and LAW's could be used aganst a helo when its on the ground picking up or letting off troops. The VC did that lotsa times during Vietnam.....youd think theyd teach the average Ruskie "ground-pounder" that an RPG can put a serious dent in a helicopter loading/offloading troops. Another problem....have you noticed when youre the pilot of a helicopter, and you tell your gunner to target a specific soldier sometimes he says "engaging" over and over again?? sometimes i just drop him in a hot zone so he will shut the hell up. that needs fixing..... Aslo about the Hind helicopter....in the real life Hind, its canopy and windscreen can take a direct hit from a 50 cal round. however in afghanistan the rebels noticed that one well placed shot in the oil cap next to the engine can bring down a Hind quite quickly. -
ok, ya'll, i need to know how to place a satchel charge and set a decent timer on it so the guy can get away (say, 90 seconds) and i really dislike doing this on the whole notepad thing (in fact, i [/i]cant do notepad, im not smart enough ) can someone please tell me how to do this by way of triggers and waypoints por favor? id really appreciate it. thank ya kindly
-
i got an idea.....you could "jerry rig" a recording by using 2 two way radios, have one next to the mic, then go 2 the other side of the room and talk into the other radio........pretty ghetto i know, but i think it jus might work
-
ok Ya'll....... i know youre getting sick of my ranting and raving about realism but i need to be picky when it comes to realism in my map making.......... ok heres the deal... you know when an AI is landing in a chopper, it always does that whole autohover deal and it goes like 200 feet in the sky and swings its tail around? well that kinda pisses me off and thats not how real helicopters land and fly under fire...... in real life a helicopter pilot flys "map of the earth" aka treetop level dodging everything from bullets, RPG's, rockets, shoulder fired AA missles, AAA, rocks, arrows, spears, branches, ducks, birds and geese... *inhales sharply* and when he comes in for a landing and flares his helicopter, he dosent go 200 feet in the air....thats plain suicide when youre in a hot zone.....so heres my question how do you keep a helicopter at a safe, reasonable altitude when landing? (i tried the "FlyInHeight" command, and it only works in straight, level flight.

holy sh-t y'all out did yourelves this time.... i already made a lil special forces camp and hamlet on my jungle everon and the thought to all the individual units was a rreally nice touch too i got one question though.....whats the radio for? at first i thought it was jus for looks but theres an action option using the radio.......................ANY IDEAS?? i know someone who knows the answer will skip reading my reply all together i love that pack dunno what the radio is for other than looks also. im a hardcore player of OFP and im sure there are hundreds of thousands like me. ......but i get kind of annoyed when my M-16A1 runs out of ammo......im just so used to having my M-16A2 and my 30 round mags.....id go rockin and rollin and run out of ammo and id be like WTF?!?! another thing (rant-rave time ) who said that the grenaders carried up to 30 rounds of grenades....all i can carry is 8 (which is more than twice the standard load) but come on.....8 rounds of HE go quicker than you think on a hot LZ
-
Excelent!! the M-79 will carry plenty of ammo for my lil shoot-em-up jobs.....the buckshot is a good idea too....but like 75% of the time i always get killed more than 200 meters from the bad guy. and at that range a canister round would only piss him off i love the idea about the RTO, ...so is the guy with the PRC-77 (prick77 in slang) gonna be the only guy who can call in fire support? and if he gets killed? hehe if they are making this pack as realistic as i hope, this mod shall be quite interesting...
-
he ya'll another quick ranting and ravin.............. does anyone know what happened to the independence lost mod (or is it a new game all together?) but i used to get regular updates on the game.......i dunno what the game was about and frankly i could care less about the actual game play i jus wanted some of the new vehicles like the new UH-1 huey and the Super stallion helicopter ( those things can lift a fully loaded F/A-18 ya know...thats why theyre so super ) mainly i jus want the super stallion helicopter....any one have some news for lil ol me?
-
ok thanks guys.....dunno if i can wait till christmass though......whens that tales of war mod commin out again??

good evening or morning here in michigan.. well i got a new idea......another rant and rave ok, so i was thinking about SEALs in Vietnam and there was one weapon one gun that was used only by the SEALs in Nam..(the marines hated it cause it was hard to maintain) ok enough backround....im taking about the Stoner light machine gun....it fire 5.56 jus like the M-16s. again like i said the SEALs were the only ones to use it cause it had a number of hassles ( hard to clean/maintain, had a nasty habbit of goin off in full auto sometimes when only set to semi. and mostly was the individual ammo links were in such short supply...i heard stories of stoner gunners picking up links on the battlefield links in a lil sack during firefights to reuse the links later) but the number one reason the SEALs carried the stoner was alot of firepower at a comparatively small weight penalty (the early variants of the M-60 weighed 23 lbs empty) but the stoner could chew up whatever it was pointed at so the SEALs loved it, pluss the SEALs are notoriuosly religious in their weapons prep and cleaning so they took the extra maintenance in stride. but anyhoo.........this i think would make a great addon for those SEAL mission lovers.....also i think it would be nice to have some of the "quirks" designed into the addon like the full auto thingy well im done....if you read this thing all the way through, pat yourself on the back

true but like its been said a real life pilot comes into an lz goin so fast....he knows that he has to keep low so he will start slowin down by flaring and when he does this he eases up on his collective so the blades loose lift......the belly at this point is pointing at the ground so the bird is just skimmin at the same altitude bleeding off airspeed....think of it like a stone skipin accros the water......the surface of the water is the set altitude hes flyin at during combat (say, 30 feet off the deck) and he wont go under that plane or surface untill hes at a slower foward speed so he keeps his altitude slowin down.....you see normally, when you put the nose up, you go up right? well you find that equilibrium so where youre loosin altitude by easing up on your collective but your nose is pointing up, therefore the nose up and the down collective cancel out and you dont go up or down but you DO slow your forward airspeed and when youre slow enough you put the bird down. thats what i want.......and in the game even at airspeed the AI doest think of the airspeed changes like you or i......like for instance when youre drivin down the road goin 50 and you see a sign that says 35, most people just coast and let speed bleed off.....in the game it wants a sudden and dramatic chane in speed.....so a helicopter will momentarily flare at a new waypoint as if its goin to land.....a hum goes to a different waypoint gradually, in a gentile curve...the AI thinks in straight lines....see? i know im ranting again...sorry fellas......thanks to the guys who are offering advice

i totally agree about the blackhawks......in the regular blackhawks they usually put M-60's in the doors. i got an inlaw whos got a brother flyin blackhawks for the National Guard and he says that sometimes they put the Honeywell MK. 19 40mm automatic grenade launcher in one of the doors *drooling* but thats a rare find......also the black ops variants for the blackhawk...i got an addon that has the refueling probe....i heard its unarmed though (havent had the chance to try it out yet) also about the mini guns.....i was reading somewhere that some of the people who operate these sometimes complain about the feeding mechanism of these guns and that they sometimes jam......which isnt suprising considering they fire upwards of about 6,000 rounds a minute.....(thats about 100 rounds a second) and when you got metal gears and parts wizzin around at that speed its not suprising that they would malfunction
-
again let me echo the other replies that both (A) i want this pack and (B) i cant wait to get my hands on the M-79 its so sweet yo........however....someone said that the grunts didnt carry much ammo for the weapon in vietnam even when its used as a secondary weapon (like when the guy is carryin a CAR-15 or an M-16) htis is true at times but not fully correct....hasnt anyone seen the vests that guys sometimes wear?? it carrys like 20 to 30 rounds of 40mm HE ammo pluss enough slots to carry four 40mm para-flares....thats alot of firepower my freinds......but then again a person can only carry like four 40mm grenades tops. thats another gripe i got about OFP. a guy never carries enough ammo in my mind. in the game the standard loadout is 4 mags for your primary weapon.....WTF??!?!?! in most groups they carry a minimum of about 7 magazines.....now the M-60 gunners have a pretty decent loadout i think..... 4 or 5 100round belts of 7.62....and those bitches are heavy....try to imagine humpin one of those hogs on a realworld op.....thats not my bag baby

hey folks.........ive been running quite a nice array of ideas through my head......some are new twists to the same ol boring sniper missions........some are a look at some soldiers and pilots that no one has given much thought to, but would make an excelent mission....for instance....a day in the life of a FAC (Foward Air Controller) or how about the air force's elite (yes airforce has a special force worth respect) known as the PJ's (para jumpers) ive also been thinking about a Capt. Scott O'Grady style mission which is a great idea now cause that new F-16 is out... ive also been thinking on new twists to the old-school sniper missions....hell im even doing a MAC V. SOG style mission using the jungle everon island.....i like to think ive got a whole sh-t load of mission ideas up in my ol noggin i just need back round on the campain and need to know what the person wants in a mission or 2 and ill be more than happy to help him out hehe i like to think that i know alot about military scenarios just reply to me or email me at DrkHrt32@aol.com toodles ya'll

OK Ya'll (ok im originally from missouri ), so if any of you have played that "Hunter-Killer" mission, you will have noticed a nice lil script of an airstrike by a pair of A-10's on a small enemy base. they droped "dumb" bombs on the target (YES, they are dumb! #1,theyre not very accurate when you drop 'em. and #2, have you ever got right up next to one?? my question is "where the hell is the guidance system?" anyone who knows anything knows that these bombs are nothing more than old schooll 750 pounder iron bombs.) ok enough of my dennis miller ranting and raving. As for my point, these bombs are dumb bombs and should be droped accordingly. In real life a pilot pickles a bunch of these bombs off in rapid sucsession. In fact, if you watch one it looks like theyre all dropped off at once. This is the kind of airstrike script that ive been looking for. an A-10 dropping a sh-t load of dumb bombs all at once on a target. The script used in this hunter killer game was quite good, in fact i was droolling I know, I know, you guys are asking "why dont you just ask the mission author about this script?" I did and he thought i should ask the same question in the forum....he thought i should "share the magic" well ive yet to see anyone ask this question so i think hardly anyone cares......ok, ok, im ranting-raving again so heres my question and overall point HOW DO YOU DO THIS KIND OF AIRSTRIKE SCRIPT OF AN A-10 DROPPING OFF A BUNCH OF BOMBS ALL AT ONCE??

Any of you guys remember that pic of a PaveHawk helicopter with the big refueling probe sticking out of the end?? Most special operation versions of the blackhawk that ive seen have these refueling probes on them. As for myself, i love a good, realistic special ops mission and that version of the pavehawk is damn near a requirement for my missions. Is anyone else with me? i saw pics up an upcomming version of this but i dont think it came out. Replies, anyone?

Getting a soldier to reload his weapon in the edit
drkhrt532 replied to 110's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
i have the same DAMNED PROBLEM im glad to hear that someone else is in the same boat....now i know im not goin crazy......its such a pain......sometimes id shoot the guy with the weapon.....pick up the weapon...reload the weapon and put it down......then tell someone else to pick it up.... heheh i always went into combat with 11 men as opposed to 12 cause some idiot woundt reload his weapon.....i figured it would be a lesson to the rest of the squad lol lol lol
