I downloaded and installed 1.42 hoping that it would fix my problem with loud static when driving in vehicles, but now the game won't start at all. I've redownloaded and reinstalled all the patches over and over, to no avail. Any help would be great. I'm running Windows XP Professional on an Athalon 1.33 ghz, GeForce 3 vid card, Soundblaster Live! 5.1, 512 megs RAM.

Cool, I'll be buying one soon then... Thanks for the help.

ok, i've checked out that site, tried everything that could possibly have anything to do with the sound problem, but it's still there. i'm thinking that i'm going to buy a new motherboard, because the one i'm using now uses an AMD northbridge and a VIA southbridge chipset, which makes finding the correct drivers a terrible pain, and i think that the chipset is where my problem lies. anyone have a recommendation on a good motherboard? I've been thinking the ASUS A7A266. Does anyone out there have it and can tell me whether it's worth buying? i have an Athalon 1.333ghz, 512 megs DDR RAM, Sb live 5.1 and a Visontek GeForce 3.

yeah ive gotten all of the newest drivers, and i've bugged creative's tech support about this too. As for the PCI lantency, it appears that my bios doesn't have a setting like that. Closest thing i can find is AGP Secondary Latency Timer, which is set for 00H (some sort of hex setting, not sure what it does) one thing i have noticed is that if i'm in a vehicle, like a jeep, that is causing the static, and i go to sound options and change settings (like hardware off and back on, or voices to single and back to all) the static will go away, until the jeep sound completely stops and starts again i'm not even completely sure the problem is isolated to OFP. When i upgraded to XP, i noticed all of my sounds were louder, and im thinking that *maybe* the over-amplification is causing distortion, like some driver or setting deep within windows somewhere is amplifying my sound too much and i can't find it.

yeah, i figured my problem out. Before updating i had Flashpoint set to run in Win 98/ME compatibility mode to try to troubleshoot the problems i was having with the crackling sound. I just checked and found out i never disabled it, and after i put it back to normal all was fine (the sound problem is still there though). So, a word to the wise, don't run OFP in compatibility mode unless you want it to not work...
