  1. I've had Resistance installed for months.  I haven't installed or uninstalled anything having to do with Op Flashpoint recently, although I have installed and unistnalled other games. For some reason, abokut a week ago, when I run OpFlash (orig or resistance exec), It won't let me switch back to Desktop. Or rather, the OpFlash image won't get out of the way... What I mean is -- when I hit Alt-Tab, there IS a change -- I can tell that another program is there becuase my cursor changes accordingly when I move it around the screen -- but the rest of the screen is stuck with the OpFlash image. And  then if I hit Alt-Tab enuf times to return me to OpFlash (Or, conversely, hit Shift-Alt-Tab to "back up" to OpFlash), then I WILL see the regular desktop or last program, for a second, then it returns to OpFlash. NE1 know why this would happen? thx!
  2. No matter what I reinstall or do, the Red Hammer campain crashes OpFlash Resistance to desktop each time I try to start the early mission "Repulsion" I see the movies, then get the opening map, and when I click on Continue, it crashes to desktop. I've posted this issue extensively, but nobody has a fix So, I'd like a savegame ideally of the Repulsion mission just afger clicking on Continue, and also of the Next missin, in case the former doesn twork Where would I find this? thx!
  3. OpFlash crashes on teh Red Hammer mission "Repulsion", after the intro movies, when the missino begins. Any fixes for this? (PS - I get some missing \addon messages during the intro movies)
  4. OpFlash crashes when it runs the Red Hammer mission 'Repulsion'. Is shows the movies ok (with only a couple of error messages), then finally the map screen comes up, I press "continue", and I see the POV game screen. But then OPFlash crashes to desktop. Anyone know why, or know of a fix? thx!
  5. Since the AI can often see thru vegetation and I cannot (in single player), every tree or bush might as well have a gun behind it. They're like those one-way mirror that cops use in interrogations -- They can see you but you can't see them. Since all vegetation is like this in OpFlash, you might as well replace all those interconnecting "bush slices" with images of one-way mirrors. At least we'd know what we're dealing with. Seriously, I notice that in other games and combat sims like (gasp) Ghost Recon, they manage to make the vegetation look like... Well, like a bush. You can see THRU it. You can see thru it best up close, but far away, you can also make out bodies behind -- especially when they are firing or moving. The difference, as I see it (literally), is that in games like GR, vegetation alternates between solid and transparent areas on a very fine scale (the finest being needles) In OpFlash, the vegetation is basically big solid sheets with some intermittent holes, which you can't even use to aim thru because even if you line up your eye with a hole, when you switch to Iron Sights, the hole isn't aligned anymore. Actually I don't care about the technical side of it -- All I know is that lesser games don't have this problem. Is this even something that can be fixed in upgrades? Otherwise, let's break out the mirrors.
  6. This thread is about SEEING thru vegetation, not SHOOTING thru it. I know I can shoot thru veg. But if I"m crawling thru the forest, and a badguy starts shooting me from behind a bush, Ican't see where he is and I"m screwed. (Bushes don't provide anywhere near that much cover in real life -- unless they totally obscure vision in both directions.)
  7. If I'm on the ground, or in a helicopter, and my squadmate is in a DIFFERENT helicopter, How do I get him to land his helicopter at a particular place? The only way I've found to do it is to get him to fly TOWARD the spot, and about 10 seconds before he's due to fly over the spot, I commadn him to disembark the vehicle. Then he slows down, and lands, which puts him in the general area. But sometimes he overshoots, or worse, he turns and lands elsewhere. How do I do this? Also, what are the rules governing what a heli pilot DOES when he gets to a point you've told him to fly to? Sometimes he stops and hovers, other times he keeps on flying past. I haven't found what makes the difference. Any ideas? Thanks!
  8. (NOTE - I posted a similar message on another OpFlash forum, but I wanted to repost it here so that there's a chance that a BIS person will actually see it.) I remember somebody saying that one of the patches fixed some issue with the vegetation... And another person brought up the great point that the AI seems unable to see you when you're IN a bush, but can see you when you're BEHIND a bush. That's been a useful trick. But right now I'm playing some recon missions at nighttime, and the best way to advance (I think) is thru the patches of forest. But if I run across the stray soldier in the woods, forget it. It's all over. He sees me - I can't see him. If my squadmates see him before he sees me, then maybe I can survive. But do you know how frustrating it is, to watch him disapear behind vegetation, and no longer see him, but know that he can both see me & shoot me thru trees! The trees aren't providing enuf cover to protect me when I "hide behind them" -- I still get shot. I just wish that somehow things were more "even", between the AI & the human single-player, in this area. I know that makers of these kind of games specifcally develop graphics features relating to "transparency" to make the game seem more like real life. And you often can see "thru" bushes in OpFlash, by getting your eye right level with some gap between "globules" of vegetation. But it's not consistent enuf to actually "use" -- I mean, if I sight somebody "thru vegetation",and I switch to ironsighits, then the vegetation is blocking it... So I just have to crawl forward till I'm in front of the veg. But I find that most of the time I can't see thru the bushes, and the badguys can. (The only relief is using my squadmates, but usually it's too late if I've stumbled upon some russian on his belly in the woods.) Am I just being spoiled? Or do some of you also wish there was more parity in this "seeing thru vegetation" thing? Maybe BIS could add an AI Control menu, with, among other things, turning off the AI's ability to see thru veg... Is that a dumb idea? (NOTE -- I only play single player -- I understand that playing against people makes this issue moot)
  9. I just got a new PC, a Pentium4 with RDRAM (Rambus memory), with Windows XP. Is there any reason to think I won't be able to play Operation Flashpoint? Isn't there some problem with XP, that is being addressed lately? I can't find a post on it.

  11. Whenever I start a mission with an M16, I have learned to drop it as soon I come across an AK47, because the friggin ironsights take up so much of the screen (when zoomed) that I can't see what's going on... Yes I could aim down at the ground so I could get a clearer picture of my periphery -- but the AK47 ironsights is so much shorter that it's easier to just trade. Why do you suppose BIS didn't lower the M16 ironsights a little? (The AK47 ironsights intrude halfway up into the "optics" screen, but the M16 intrudes at least 2/3 of the way)
  12. As I mentioned in my other recent post, I have a problem with aiming, because, when I set my mouse sensitivity to a setting that makes turning around and viewing my environment comforatble, that sensitivity is too fast and too coarse when I zoom in and try to pick off enemies taht are far away, especially when using non-scope weapons like the M16 or AK47. One temporary solution (besides adding a separate "zoomed" mouse sensitivity setting in a patch) would be to write a "script" like the ones used in Quake3, which creates a toggle key that will change the mouse sensitivity values back and forth between two sets of X and Y sensitivity values. Is this sort of thing possible in Operation Flashpoint?
  13. to BIS -- Would you consider, in an upcoming patch maybe, adding a separate set of mouse sensitivity settings for ZOOMED mode? I find that, when I am zoomed mode, my aiming is much too coarse -- However if I reduce my mouse sensitivity to compensate for this, then, in general, when I am just looking around or turning to engage or view my environment, the movement is much too slow and limited. This is why I ask.
