    [WIP] Modern Tactical Thompson

With a 100 round drum, that would be INTERESTING!

    Collective down

Interesting. Yeah, the collective is a little clunky on my joystick too. But its Arma, not the Joystick. I fly the Ka-50 in DCS and the collective is smooth. About the keyboard collective binding though, I had a problem with it. It seemed to be interfering with the analogue setting and when I cleared the all they keybinds, and left just the analogue set, the collective started working on my joystick. Before that, it was basically just full collective or no collective.

    Helicopter controls

I see what your saying, and yeah, it should work like that ( like one half is throttle and one half is brake like in, say, Rfactor ), but its not working. ---------- Post added at 10:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ---------- Ok, got it working now. I erased the keyboard commands in the keyboard collective and made sure only the analog collective was set to work. That seemed to do it. They may have been clashing with each other.

    Helicopter controls

Yeah, that doesn't work. ---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ---------- Hovering takes some practice and skill. Helicopters are sensitive. Try flying the Ka-50 in DCS. VERY HARD! If you want to learn how to hover, you need to practice, practice, practice! You need to continuously do tiny inputs to keep it where you want. It will try to drift. Flying around at speed like a jet is the easy part. I haven't hovered much in Arma 3 because of the collective problem, but its similiar to DCS, just not as fine a control.

    Helicopter controls

I'm having problems as well. I've tried adjusting sensitivity and curves but to no avail. First off, the collective on my joystick only works in the upper half. Secondly, even though the config panel in Arma shows decent levels of change in the joystick (0-100) as I move the cyclic on my joystick, in game it appears to full cyclic on no cyclic, and THAT'S IT! Didn't we have this problem back in Arma 2? Please fix this, BI! It is IMPOSSIBLE to fly the helicopter with a joystick because of this. And I'm pretty good at flying the Ka-50 in DCS ( flown it since they released it, my main aircraft ). I can make it DANCE! I have NO problem with the joystick in that sim. Its Arma 3.
  6. Last I saw, People like CWright were have a nightmarish time trying to get big areas in CryEngine. He had to take a bunch of maps and "sew" them together somehow. Engines like Outerra, which were made for HUGE maps, seem to be the REAL future.

    Displacement maps

Here's what I meant by displacement maps. http://download.autodesk.com/global/docs/maya2014/en_us/index.html?url=files/Surface_Relief__Displacement_maps.htm,topicNumber=d30e632545 "With Displacement maps, depressions and elevations become part of the geometry of the object, changing the topology, unlike Bump maps that only create the illusion of surface relief." Nice game list. I'm a big fan of DCS already. A-10 and Blackshark pilot. They have hinted at coming out with an M1A2SEP Tank module. That might get us into an Arma like game, which would be interesting, because it would have highly realistic flight simulation and a HUGE map. Another game coming that should be on the list is Blackfoot Studio's - Ground Branch. http://www.groundbranch.com/ Edit: Wow! I didn't know Outerra was up to that level now. Looks like they're about to go mainstream soon!

    Displacement maps

Ah, ok. I was wondering! Something I missed? Lol, we'll I just hope that BIS get displacement mapping in their next releases for objects. Bump mapping is just an illusion, where as displacement mapping is actually physically bringing out the rocks / bricks from mortar and such. Like in the Unigine Engine Heaven demonstration where you turn on "tessellation" ( yeah, I know, not exactly right ), and the cobblestones come up from being flat and you see the bricks start to stick out from the wall. Best example I can think of.

    Displacement maps

I'm talking more about Oxygen and terrain. VERY dated compared to the editors on the newer engines. Especially UE4.

    Displacement maps

News to me. And sorry, but Crytek and UE are not dead. UE just hit 4.7. VERY NICE features. The problem with RV4 is can only do basic stuff, its graphics abilities are BEYOND dated, and its editors remind me of UE1. VERY hard to use! BIS has done a good job with textures and such, but were not able to do displacement mapping ( think taking a picture of rocks and pulling the rocks out of it - i.e. Heaven Unigine demo - displacement mapping - tessellation). Stuff like that. Its just tooo old. We can't even have lakes and rivers, which have existed in other engines for ages now!

    Displacement maps

Yeah, unfortunately I have to agree. I spent many years with Arma II and had high hopes for Arma 3. But I feel like its become even less graphics and objects in order to become bigger. Even lakes and water have been abandoned. We're fighting in a desert wasteland. The engine feels too old and stretched beyond its abilities. Many new engines are coming out, and as you said, UDK4 seems to be rivaling Crysis now. Its time for a new engine that can use modern graphics hardware ( which will in turn, increase FPS ).

    Displacement maps

I mean where the bricks come out on the corners (edges) as well, not just the middle of the pic, if that helps. Bump mapping (normal mapping) doesn't seem to do edges. There are engines out there, but so far, no one has done a realistic military one on them yet. Most seem to be focusing on Fantasy games, unfortunately. I played with CryEngine for a number of years, but they seem to be fading ( or dealing only with governments now ). Just gonna have to wait, I guess.

"Opening up Arma 3 to paid user-made content" - How?

I'm from the Flight Sim Community (Falcon, DCS, etc.) , and I would call those MODULES, not "mods". They are FAR more than mods. And yeah, we pay a LOT for them. Edit: I see what your talking about now. You mean like Open Falcon and such. Yeah, that was actually MORE than a mod, because it was an .exe edit. Not legal, they almost got sued for it. Small modding like in Arma, I don't see much of that. Maybe in the old days.
  14. Yeah, except they're leaving in droves now. SW will be the death of mods.
  15. Nice! Very realistic! It reminds me of my homeland of Texas after a bad rainstorm. Pastures full of shallow, grassy pools. ---------- Post added at 08:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:21 PM ---------- I'd call it more of a FACT. Seen that happening for the last 10 years.
