I also have the exact same issue. open up the launcher in Steam it says 'preparing to launch arma' then closes, tried the .exe and nothing.

I've been stuck on this for 7 hours, it's getting to the point that I may just stop playing the game entirely. - I have now completed this level, simply by walking to where they are and shooting them.
