Who are the 173rd Airborne Brigade

The 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team is a virtual realism unit which focuses on being as similar to its real father unit. We aim to take realism as far as we can, before making it dull and unexciting for the soldier. We take tactics from authentic field manuals and adapt them so they work in the ArmA series. There are too main roles within the 173rd, infantry soldier and pilot. All soldiers must participate in the three initial training exercises, these exercises are explained more further down. Our missions take place in a mature, controlled environment but aim not to take it too seriously that it isn't any fun. What would be the point of a game if it wasn't any fun? So, if you are looking for a realistic, mature and fun gaming environment with a Chain of Command and structure, the 173rd Airborne Brigade is for you!

What makes the 173rd Airborne Brigade unique

What separates the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team from other units is its unique add-ons, specifically made for our use. A highlight of these add-ons are the soldiers we use. Our soldiers have been modelled around the "Land Warrior" making our troops look the part whilst having the cutting edge in technology. Another of our unit specific add-ons is the Multifunctional Utility/Logistics and Equipment vehicle (MULE) which accompanies a squad during is operation. There a three different variations, XM1219 Armed Robotic Vehicle which is used with our squads as like a 9th man. It carries a large machine gun as well as anti-tank weapons making it crucial when fire-power is key. XM1218 Countermine is primarily used on our patrolling missions when the likelihood of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are high. The MULE would act as the front man of the squad and self-contain the explosion if it encounters a landmine. The third is the XM1217 Transport which is very useful also for patrolling. It can carry any heavy equipment which is not directly needed by the soldier at that time. So, it could carry many M249 machine gun rounds or satchel charges, equipment that really bulks down the soldier.

What must a 173rd Airborne Brigade soldier go through

So, you were interested in joining the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and posted an application on the forums. A member of the Battalion Command staff will look over your application to see if you have the right stuff. That will then be followed by a verbal interview from the Commanding Officer to see if you fit the bill to become a 173rd soldier. So, you have passed your written application and sweet talked the commander into letting you join, you are now a 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team recruit. A recruit must go through and pass all three of the required soldier training exercises before they can progress to their specific MOS. The first of the three training exercises is the Basic Combat Training (BCT) which will go through all of the basics, such as weapon handling and formations. BCT is followed by Advanced Combat Training (ACT) which focuses on more difficult exercises such as combined-arms warfare and close-quarter battle training. The third and final training is specific to the 173rd Airborne Brigade and is our own Advanced Airborne Training (AAT) which progresses on the very brief aerial training in the ACT. Advanced Airborne Training contains subjects such as HAHO and HALO jumping, exiting rotary and fixed winged aircraft and fast-roping, as well as other aerial related topics. So you have completed all three training exercises and you have made a name of yourself within the 173rd Airborne Brigade, you can now go on to fulfil your virtual career with your selected MOS, after some more training of course.
