System crash

Recommended Posts

Help, please some1, ive had this prob for a while now ever since installing Win2k.

Everytime i play an online game (not single play) i end up crashing, but not straight away, only when i quit, and if it doesnt happen when i quit, then it happens when i try to restart or shut down the system.

Then windows does the file check and ends up truncating various files Eg. (flashpoint.cfg 1 allocation unit not valid truncating file) it does all kinds of weird stuff then offers up file fragments to me in my C: directory (Found 001, Found 002) etc. i'm sure its the reason i've had 2 hard drives in the last 5 months, loads of unwritable sectors apparently, which in turn caused errors in Direct x (not being able to write to its prefered cache i suppose) but i'm no tech head so i'm just grabbing at straws.

This is really mashing my system up, i know it has something to do with the firewall, because everythings fine when i shut down the firewall (zone alarm), so i installed Norton firewall 2001 but it does EXACTLY the same thing, can any 1 link me to a free firewall that might be better.

But better still i could do with a real tech head telling me exactly what the problem is, i've tried the zone alarm forums but you may as well throw socks at the moon.

I'm also getting a lot of pop up in the graphics of OFP ie. bushes and details are popping into view at about 20 feet (game scale) away, dont know if this is a pointer or another problem entirely.

Thanx for any correspondance in advance
