Make a texture a glow

Hi,

I have a texture of what is essentially a light. It looks alright, but during the night its far from a light as it turns on but you can barely see it. Is there anyway to make this glow a fair amount?

I guess I need to try an RVMAT. I saw the illumination RVMAT in the thread below mine here however applying the material to the face of where my texture is didn't do anything for me. Is there more to it than that?
