Strange Crash that Hard Locks my Computer

As the thread title say's i'm having a right nightmare trying to get a game of arma 2, i have a steam D/L copy.

I have owned arma2 since release and not had any problems with it, i havent played the game for around 6 months as other games have been released and have spent my time on them, but the time came when i returned to arma2 and guess what, i'm getting crashes that make me re-boot as i can't shut the program down even through the taskmanager.

Since the crashes i have installed patch 1.05 and the hot fix this didn't help so i verified the game files and then steam had to D/L around 75 file's which took around 2 hours at 550kb/s! this didn't work so i wiped arma2 off my HDD and re-downloaded the whole game from scratch ran the game on 1.04 patch and it all worked but i couldn't try online as there were no games running with players on, so i applied patch 1.05 the games works in single player as far as i can see ( but i haven't played/tested it much ), the game still crashes/hard locks when i try and play online! yes i'm making sure i'm not trying to join servers that run mods like the ace2.

I'm not running any mods myself and haven't messed with any files bar running the 1.05 patch, the only new hardware i have is a second monitor which i can't see messing the game up and have tryed running the game without it on.

My specs are;

AMD 6000 x2 @3ghz

3GB ram 800mhz

nvidia BFG 8800 GT

22" monitor

750 GB HDD

XP pro SP3

My rig has ran this game at med to high setting's in the past but now i'm getting errors.

Didnt see any mentioning of testing the beta so give it a test. http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

Top in the green bar is the latest version. Its installed besides the 1.05 version so it doesnt mess with it but creates a new shorcut for the beta alone. So no hassle but everything to win.

But your problem sounds weird and i dont really think its about what version or addon you run. However test the beta anyway and see if anything gets better.

Thanks for that mate, i will give it a try and see how i get on (fingers crossed).

*EDIT, The beta patch didn't work for me unfortunatly, i can't get my head around this problem as i have just tryed playing in single player mode and it works flawless not a problem, but as soon as i try to play on-line i can get in to the game lobby then a pick a suitable game load in and then choose my role then it bloody crashes/freezes before the game starts for me, a couple of times i have accualy got into the game but then after a short while say 5 mins i crash out.

Could this have anything to do with the battle eye anti-cheat protection?, as i know punk buster has this effect sometimes with certian games.
