Akira 0 Posted November 26, 2001 First, the system- 800MHZ T-Bird 320 MB RAM S3 Savage 4 32MB (SO need a new card) 11 giger HDD Windows XP Recently formated and installed clean XP. Game ran fine earlier in 98SE. If can't find help here I will run the compatiblity wizard when I get home. Anyway, upgraded 1.3 (but the following effects happen in 1.2 and 1.3) Textures are "blacked-out" as if not fully drawn. Black squares come from objects, and I can't see further than say 50-60ft(?) because everything beyond that range is dark and difficult to make out. If there is an enemy running around I can't see him until I am almost right on top of them. (this is not a "brightness" issue...it is clearly a texture rendering problem. I have tried numerous settings, resolutions, etc. but the effect is the same) Basically instead of normal textrures I'm getting black squares and textures that aren't drawn at all. Thought it might have been an install error. Occurs on repeated installs. Any idea would be helpful.
Ratburt 0 Posted November 26, 2001 What is the compatibility wizard? Scott
theavonlady 2 Posted November 26, 2001 Search The FAQ for "black boxes" and see if anything there helps. Could indeed be drivers, could be some other minor thing.

Scott <span id='postcolor'> Windows XP has a nifty little thing called the "Compatiablity Wizard". If a program that was working before ISN'T working now...you run that and and it asks you game specific questions (last WORKING OS, resolution, etc.), and adjusts the program to run with those properties. That is how I got Civilization 3 to work through XP actually....works like a charm.
Ratburt 0 Posted November 26, 2001 Akira, i tried it with no change. I even went a couple different ways through the tshooter process. Scott
Akira 0 Posted November 26, 2001 Then it must be a driver/XP problem since mine worked fine in 98SE before I upgraded. Have you tried the Windows Update to see if there is an updated driver? How about the FAQ's ideas for help, have you tried those? If those don't work it looks like we will have to try to rollback the driver.
muzzmuzz 1 Posted November 26, 2001 Sorry to have to break this to you m8 but the most likely reason for Black/White or no texturing is because of your Savage 4 graphics card. The Savage 4 is fairly good card capible of some good frame rates at 800X600 but for top games such as Flashpoint the card has met its match. Basically OFP does not support the Savage 4. My advice is to get a good Geforce AGP card though if you don't have a AGP slot the Voodoo 5500 is very impressive for a PCI card and does a nice high 85fps at 1024X768 on a 850Mhz PC and above. Akira 0 Posted November 27, 2001 Savage 4 is actually supported by the game...least the FAQs says so, and the card worked wonderfully until I upgraded to XP. The problem must be driver related in XP. I tried downloading a new driver and installing it...but XP wouldn't let me...stupid Microsoft. I'll keep trying. Not looking forward to going back to crappy 98SE. Simfight 0 Posted November 27, 2001 It isnt the card I had the same trouble with a gforce 1 256 ddr 98se . I switched back to the 12.90 drivers they seem faster than most i have tried. The black texture thing is a TnL problem. It is not exclusive to OPF either. I have this problem in Independance War 2. One thing you might try. If you have over clocked the vidieo card? if so try turning it down. Simfight

Stuart 0 Posted December 2, 2001 I seem to have similar problem to you. The demo ran fine, but once bought game and installed both have same problem, i.e. black background to the trees, sort of like shadows gone wrong, its like the trees are cardboard cutouts with a mixture of green leaves and black blocks Any help much appreciated
